If you're experiencing the heatwave like we are in Berkshire, UK- then what have you all got planned for dinner?!

I need some inspiration as currently I have no desire to stand over a hot oven, yet feel like I am slowly marinating myself😂

Gettingbysomehow · 24/06/2026 21:08

I am soaking chickpeas for tomorrow
Homemade falafel
pitta
tahini/houmous
crunchy salad bits

I want to love halloumi but it sets my teeth on edge 😂

Bread, cheese and Pringles

mamaduckbone · 24/06/2026 21:12

We had salmon and couscous with roasted Mediterranean veg today, chicken Caesar salad yesterday.

Flannelfeet · 24/06/2026 21:26

I roasted a chicken this morning to have with salad, coleslaw, pasta salads, boiled eggs and pickles...then decided all the eggs need to be boiled so made egg mayo with the rest of them, then again decided to make homemade potato salad 🥵🥵🥵. And thats me who lives in Scotland and can't even handle the heat here! I seriously feel for you lot in England, I couldn't cope with that heat.

gingercat02 · 24/06/2026 22:25

We had sausage, wedges and beans. DH has no oven phobia, but it was also only 22°c here today

Comefromaway · 24/06/2026 22:30

Yesterday was chicken mini fillets on a burger bun with salad. Tonight was cod loin, new potatoes & salad.

SuperGinger · 24/06/2026 22:30

We had a chicken curry, spice in heat is so good, it was very clean, I just avoided any fat.

FurForksSake · 24/06/2026 22:37

tonight I had a bacon baguette (air fryer bacon). Ds1 (13) had a pot noodle. Ds2 (10) had a tin of 19p spaghetti hoops on a baguette with some bacon on the side.

tomorrow ds1 and I are having pesto pasta and ds2 will be having super noodles.

im definitely leaning into giving no shits.

Imasurvivour · 24/06/2026 23:50

we had sourdough toast with butter, smashed avocado and spring onion on top and then added steak cooked with red onion and mushrooms and a small side salad. It was delicious.

kalokagathos · 25/06/2026 00:18

Glass of goats milk and a handful of peanuts 😅 Feeling very full all day

These threads make me feel very inadequate. I’m hoping that not all MNetters eat so well and it is only the smug minority who do that post on these type of threads 😀

Me too. I also wonder if all that extravagant food is really cooked from scratch.

So last night I had *organic olive sourdough with organic Kalamata olive hummus. With creamy Greek dip followed by puttanesca. Washed down with some cotes de Provence rose.

*all made by mr and mrs Ocado and all I had to do was spread it on the bread and nuke the puttanesca.

Me - avocado on toast with feta, chilli jam and a fried egg.

kids - picky tea. I got lots of bits for sandwiches and cold picnic things.

Sounds great!

I get that it’s a bouncy cheese for sure

it’s optional if that helps

Posh sausages in M& s Japanese milk buns ( my fave) with chilli jam and German mustard- salad of pink cabbage coleslaw, cucumber, toms and rocket

Oh wow, I didn't know M&S did Japanese milk buns. I was in Japan for cherry blossom and got into the whole egg sando thing. I have the Kewpie mayo now I can have the Japanese bread too!

I cook all sorts of amazing food from scratch. But I do a lot of batch cooking, so last nights homemade Korean japchae was just reheated from the freezer, so really was no effort at all in this weather. Tonight's dinner will be something I made earlier as well.

Rondayvu · 25/06/2026 06:28

I love to cook from scratch and love to 'plate up' properly however this is not every day and I do not worry about the days we end up with a pizza in front of the tv but I do prefer a sit down at the table meal however I put it out to the people I feed yesterday who declared Thursday should be a mcdonalds dinner so this evening we are dining on big macs, fries and chicken nuggets. I will produce this lavish feast around 6pm and can guarantee they will be 'dying of starvation' by 9 so I am currently prepping a crudite board for later also. Makes me feel like I have produced something half healthy and hey there is lettuce and onion on the big macs too ;)

Citygirlrurallife · 25/06/2026 07:41

I’d say this thread is a fair balance of cooked (chopped in this weather?!) from scratch and hummus&crisps/wine&ice cream/macdonalds!

for my part I did home-chop a salad! Kale, broccoli, butter beans, spring onion, white cabbage, cashews and a miso dressing

They are really good too - £2 for 4 but lovely for burgers or cheese and ham or scrambled egg rolls etc - we first had them in a restaurant in Brighton , so googled and been addicted ever since.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2026 10:24

@ConstantlyFuriosa that’s the one thing I really missed when we lived in Copenhagen - ( along with Boots and TK Maxx) fantastic ready made food - they just don’t do it - I did a heck of a lot of cooking and chopping!! Ocado, Waitroseand M&S are superb when it’s like this

gingercat02 · 25/06/2026 12:07

Meatballs and garlic bread and salad I think
