What's everyone having for dinner in this heatwave?

If you're experiencing the heatwave like we are in Berkshire, UK- then what have you all got planned for dinner?!

I need some inspiration as currently I have no desire to stand over a hot oven, yet feel like I am slowly marinating myself😂

Takeaway! I had falafel salad for lunch and it was truly the perfect meal

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/06/2026 21:09

Tesco meal deal! To be fair I did go out for lunch!

CheeseWisely · 23/06/2026 21:09

Quiche, salad and potato salad and a massive glass of Chenin Blanc.

A wholemeal roll with hummus and falafel and some salad bits. Tinned fruit for desert.

AWomanOfWealthAndTaste · 23/06/2026 21:20

Steak and salad. High of about 32 where I am so I thought I could cope with the hob. The oven is not going on again til weekend.

Dillydollydingdong · 23/06/2026 21:26

Big salad. Lettuce, tomatoes, cue, Spring onions, avocado, potato salad, coleslaw, eggs, beetroot, smoked mackerel, tuna. Everybody pick what they want. 😛

These all sound ELITE!! Thank you for the ideas ladies.

Seriously though, is anyone actually enjoying this heat?? 🔥 🥵

Meeeeeee
Saying that it's not that hot here. 25-28 depending on the weather app. We always have a sea breeze. Might be quite warm in bed

famousfiveoutfortheday · 23/06/2026 21:53

Nothing. Opened the fridge and went with a cold can of Coke instead

Air fryer baked potatoes with cheese and coleslaw on them

You can do baked spuds in the air fryer? Why did I never clock this? Sweet jesus I am a slow one.

Some Spanish ham straight into my mouth and cold pinot noir.

I like your style.

Kickinthenostalgia · 23/06/2026 23:27

Yesterday we had kfc, today I had leftover bolognaise with salad, dd had chicken nuggets and chips, DS had burgers. Tomorrow is picky bits and Thursday is pork belly and noodles.

Today's looking a lot like that here. Going for an early, wholesome breakfast of tinned mackerel and all the salad, raw veg etc that's in the fridge while the enthusiasm is still there.
Later is probably cold fizz and/or ice cream.

DD and I had a roast. Chicken, spuds, veg, lashings of gravy. It was gorgeous.
I put it all in the oven then sat in the garden with a glass of wine while it cooked.

You put the lot, including gravy,in the oven to cook itself? Was it some sort of tray bake? I find roast dinners a trial at the best of times, and would never consider it in a heatwave!

Tonissister · 24/06/2026 14:40

Greek salad with added mint and watermelon. Too hot to cook.

GingerLeopard · 24/06/2026 14:58

I'm going to do salmon sticky rice bowls for me and DH, some avocado, radish, spring onions and edemame in there. The kids I'll just do lots of picky bits for - fruit, sausage rolls, some french stick, cheese, maybe hard boil some eggs.
I need to do a food shop so will get bits to make chicken caesar salad tomorrow, maybe some quiche and new potatoes to make potato salad.

MotherofPearl · 24/06/2026 15:09

Yesterday: cold supermarket cooked chicken, salads and a loaf of sourdough
Today: panzanella using the remains of the sourdough

I refuse to turn the oven on in this weather.

Rondayvu · 24/06/2026 16:01

Cottage pie this evening. With wine. Prepped it this morning so just has to go in to the oven when I get home from work, quick walk on the beach and it will be ready to go when we get back.

Ladamesansmerci · 24/06/2026 16:12

Yesterday was smoked fish, baby potatoes, and veggies.

Today will be a fry up 🤷😂 my logic is, I'd eat one when hot on holiday, so fancy one today!

laddersandsnakes16 · 24/06/2026 16:25

Hot dogs, chips and coleslaw. Trying to cook things that don’t involve standing in front of the hob or oven for ages, can just chuck the sausages in the oven and walk away for half hour. If I lived in the UK I’d be buying all sorts of cold buffet bits from M&S for dinner but I’m in France where they don’t really have an equivalent to M&S sadly!

henlake7 · 24/06/2026 16:32

wholemeal rolls with cream cheese, cucumber and vegan ham.
Its too hot to even bother making a salad today!

PurpleCoo · 24/06/2026 16:38

All the people saying chips 🤢 I couldn't eat that in this heat.

I can't really eat if it's hotter than 25c, so I have to wait until 9-10pm.

Yesterday I had a black bean, sweet potato and tomato chilli bowl, which is more of a broth, so very light. No rice or tortillas with it.

Tonight my partner is round for dinner so will have to eat. We will have japchae with spicy gochujang pulled chicken. The japchae are much lighter than normal noodles plus can be served hot or as a chilled noodle salad

For breakfast I have iced smoothies so at least I am getting some nutrition. I have a high protein smoothie (no powder) recipe book, so use ingredients such as fat free Greek yoghurt, silken tofu and peanut or almond butter

Loopylalalou · 24/06/2026 16:43

Chicken and rice bake with amba sauce dressing. Sounds posh but dead easy.

I put them into the microvwave for a couple of minutes and then put them into the airfryer to finsh them cooking and crisp up the outside.

violetcuriosity · 24/06/2026 17:07

I just drove the kids to McDonalds and then parked up next to the river for views and ate it in the car with the AC on 😂.

OutOfApricots · 24/06/2026 17:22

Ham salad. No need to go anywhere near the cooker.
