Guess my age

No this isn't going to be one of those threads where I post a photograph and ask you to say how old you think I look.

I just thought for a bit of fun for anyone who like me has too much time on their hands, I would post a few facts about myself and see if you can guess my age.

I will post odd random facts over the next day, then tell you my age tomorrow.

This is a new user name, in case I have mentioned my age in previous post.

Fact 1) My mother used to wear dresses made of crimplene.

Fact 2) My father used to ride a bike and wore cycle clips to stop his trousets from getting caught in the cycle chain.

Am updating my guess as I misread WW1 for WW2.

I'd say your parents were quite old for the time when they had you, mid to late thirties, I'm guessing you were born in 1950 and you're 76.

I think you're 77.

Anonymouseposter · 18/06/2026 16:32

Late 70s Let’s say 79.

Let's assume your mother was born in April 1914. It doesn't much matter when your father was born, as Rupert Murdoch proves!

If you were born when she was 20, you'd be 92 and probably not on Mumsnet.
If you were born when she was 45, you'd be 67.
So I'm going to split the difference and go for 79-and-a-half.

<on edit: though the Jackie thing makes me think probably a few years younger than that>

Aavalon57 · 18/06/2026 16:42

At first I thought definitely early to mid-80s as your parents were born before WW1 but now I'm thinking differently. My FIL is 81, his grandad died in WW1, his dad was illegitimate as was much the case in those days. My FIL was born in 1945. But now I'm thinking your parents had you late. My head has gone a bit fuddled with the maths. 😂I imagined someone whose parents were born pre-WW1 must be ancient now (with respect!) but I think you're mid-70s. So I'm going to go with 76.

72 - I remember all those clues well !!!

I think you are the same age as my aunt and you are 75.

Mikopink · 18/06/2026 16:47

Well this is quite intriguing. Are you 74 maybe? Going on the dob of your parents…

maybe you could tell us what you ate for breakfast? Or what your first date was like! Interesting clues!

For breakfast when I lived at home, I would have had cornflakes, but my mum used to have all bran.

My first date would have been to the school disco, nothing very memorable.

Born around 1950 to older parents so you're 76 now, and a teenager in the 1960s. Great game!

openthefrontdoor · 18/06/2026 16:56

Next fact. My mother used to collect green shield stamps and I used to get tasked with sticking them in a book for her.

I am guessing 83. My grandmother was born in 1912 and started having children at 28, so thinking in that vicinity. My mother’s favourite band was The Beatles and she was born in the early 40s.
