A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

If he’s back in it’s possible to challenge.

Burnham? I genuinely don’t see how.

If he gets through the NEC, he still has to find and hold a safe seat - clearly not guaranteed. And that presupposes Starmer is ultimately willing to stand down - which I doubt.

Starmer is as self-serving as they come - country before party, my god.

Hallowedturf · 10/05/2026 17:17

We are now up to 42 MP’s calling on Starmer to go.

Rayner saying it was a mistake to block him has clout, she gets MPs onside even from the outer Hebrides. The NEC would find it hard to block again with this -

Angela Rayner has demanded Sir Keir Starmer allow Andy Burnham to return to Westminster.

She said: “This is bigger than personalities, but it is time to acknowledge that blocking Andy Burnham was a mistake. We must show we understand the scale of change the moment calls for.

I think this is AR not going for it but backing Burnham
so he can.

Yes, I accept that AR is positioning Burnham, but I struggle with the notion that Starmer will nod him through. He genuinely believes he is the best man for the job, and that another reset and asinine speech will give him the required breathing space. Surely, Streeting will make his move after tomorrow, when the reset goes down like a sh1t sandwich?

Rayner, meanwhile, wants Starmer to tack left, when last week showed us that people want the opposite.

42 publicly means way more privately.

Streeting clearly angling for Ms West to do as promised! Next week will be fun and games (unless you're Starmer!).

West signalled this morning that her pick was Rayner.
Rayner backing Burnham rather than launching herself could put a spanner in the works for the stalking horse.

Right, providing Starmer with all the more reason to hang tough.

EasternStandard · 10/05/2026 17:33

Maybe we’re at Streeting v Burnham limbering up, and whether more time can be found for the latter.

Yes. He will want more time to educate us on his brilliance.
Although if his next relaunch speech is as bad as expected, the backbench MPs might just blow anyway. There's 42 of them already public as a pp said.

Yes, I see this as entirely plausible.

When it comes to his survival, we know that Starmer is a calculating little shit. He will be contemplating how to play his rivals off one another. Reeves is probably advising him from her chess background (bad joke), given their fates are intertwined…

Sorry to say, but Milliband is one to watch too if 🤴 of the north isn't ready, Ange backs out, and the MPs decide to go early after Bollard's speech.

Pressure’s growing.

We can expect lots of forced errors and knowing the calibre or the players, unforced as well.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 10/05/2026 17:41

It will be interesting to see what would happen if Streeting gets the prize while Burnham’s out of parliament. Does Burnham still try to come back in case Streeting goes wrong? If he does try to come back would PM Streeting block him at the NEC? What would Rayner do given her alliance with Burnham? Could Streeting hold the party together if the left feel an imposter got the job? Can Streeting even hold his seat at the next GE (majority 254)?

WaffleBomb · 10/05/2026 17:44

Streeting won't blow his chances and wait will he?
He can't win if Burnham is back in parliament.

It’s now or never for Streeting.

hangin tough new kids on the block GIF

Transported back to my teens there! 🤣

(Jordan or Donnie, BTW!)

Upstartled · 10/05/2026 17:50

Apparently Rayner is going to release a statement?

DrasticAction · 10/05/2026 17:51

Milliband no !!!
I couldn't bear it !
He would foist his mad plans on us with more power no!!

That would be a disaster ! I find him more repulsive than starmer ! Even more egotistical !!
No!
Gosh what a line up!?

Surely Burnham is just not going to be a runner? Nobody is going to wait for him at this point.

And Rayner is fucked due to HMRC slowness (or her own idiocy, as she owes the money, so should just pay it).

Streeting has his best shot right now (and he would be my preferred choice, even with Mandelson issues).

About 30 years too late! 🤣🤣

EasternStandard · 10/05/2026 17:53

Wouldn’t it make more sense to wait and have a proper Streeting v Burnham. If WS goes early he will be up against unhappy AB allies.
