A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour* *government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Good , legal challenge has been mounted against the gov send reforms and I think many more to come. The amazing Micheal charles champion of send has said the legal canon is being manoeuvred into place.

What are the gov send reforms

DrasticAction · 10/05/2026 14:17

@justasking111 everything they are removing ehcp except for people with severe sen and trying to include more support and help earlier .the problem is this is within a system where many people don't even believe Sen ! And the only way parents.can make sure their DC needs are met is by an echo and so many DC don't get one for many reasons ( they are astonishingly hard to get often involving court cases ) and they are even more left behind with no support.

The gov also thinks one teacher should be able to differentiate between all the pupils in class and effectively teach each one.

There is much more too it but parents of send DC are not happy at all. The gov has not listened to them

@Pacificsunshine I agree with every word of your post and it's highlighted why it's time for me to step back

I remember David Cameron saying he would get something done about the procurement process.

In many ways, it's too depressing to think about.

I am reminded of the resignation of Sir Charles Walker MP a couple of years ago.

I am paraphrasing, but he said something along the lines of politics having eras where people actually want to do practical stuff and eras when it is entirely driven by ego. He was explaining that there is a type of person who really enjoys all of that and all of the backstabbing and the so-called intrigue and said that he was resigning because he really wasn't one of those people.

And he said that he actually wanted to do the actual administrative business of politics. He did that midcycle, saying that he wouldn't stand for the next election. And I suspect he would have been re-elected. So I believe that was genuinely his choice, and he made a good call.

I had a reason to be in contact with him, although he wasn't my MP - and I believe him to be genuine in that regard.

I didn't bother looking at politics for a very long time. I'm separating politics from "important things that are actually happening". So I would keep an eye on legal changes for example. Things like the 2011 riots, I knew the details of those because I was living in London and it was literally happening in real time with my friends messaging me that they couldn't walk down a certain street for example.

I think it's probably time I went back to my old level of knowledge. The only thing left for me to do on a personal level is to work out if there is any way I can protect myself financially.

I actually can't remember why I got into it in the first place. Probably just bad habits of being online too much - and when the asylum seeker hotel started to get coverage, I was so relieved that they were finally getting coverage! People had looked at me in horror when I said what a problem it was living near to one! One of those things you're not allowed to say.

Anyway, I've got into the habit of chatting on here because you're so nice to chat to

but actually, the volume of useless knowledge I have about politics now... I don't really need to have it. I should be spending my reading/podcast time on something else. I barely read a fiction book these days - that's bad.

My niece mature student doing PhD neuro science said funding for send research has been cut to the bone. All research being conducted on Alzheimer's and dementia now. So sadly she's adapted to get work from children to the aged.

I'm convinced labour should have made one visible change...litter, fly tipping proliferation of vape shops and made a visible difference early on. A " change" people could see.

A very good point.

A visible effort would have gone a long way, but they couldn’t be arsed.

Wes Streeting has told Sir Keir Starmer that he is preparing his case to be the next Prime Minister, The Telegraph can disclose.

The Health Secretary is preparing to launch a leadership campaign if Sir Keir is forced from office this week, amid mounting speculation that the Prime Minister will have to resign.

When questioned by Downing Street about his intentions, Mr Streeting is understood to have told No 10 that he is not planning to challenge Sir Keir directly, but is preparing a “case” for a leadership challenge in case it “all falls apart” and a contest is triggered by another candidate.

Its such good news, its worth posting twice!

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 10/05/2026 16:23

Mailonline has a peculiar article about Labour’s frenzy. They’re saying that Streeting is basically now actively trying to push out Starmer, and that he’s fighting on two fronts at once - against Burnham and Rayner at the same time. It’s compared to the Schlieffen Plan!

I know it’s figurative but that’s still quite a stretch. Little Wes as Field Marshal Alfred von Schlieffen.

It’s definitely lettuce time.

Starmer’s a gonner.

WaffleBomb · 10/05/2026 16:39

Just read elsewhere that Streeting wants to wait until after his next set of fudged NHS figures comes out on Thursday.
This week will be very entertaining. 😁

Its hilarious that Starmer and his team had bringing back Brown as their master plan.

Hmm, it is comic relief at this point, I might make time to watch the gazillionth reset just to see him squirm.

When Starmer is done, let’s hope he takes the appalling Reeves with him.

Pat McFadden jeered and booed while speaking at London rally against antisemitism
Pat McFadden, the work and pensions secretary, was jeered and booed as he spoke at the rally against antisemitism in London this afternoon. According to the Press Association, protestors shouted “shame”, “it’s your party’s fault”, “when will you act” and “Jew harmer” at Mr McFadden.
PA says that Kemi Badenoch, Tory leader, was met with raucous applause and cheers and that Richard Tice, the Reform UK deputy leader, also received applause and praise when he spoke. Ed Davey, the Lib Dem leader, “went on to stage to some jeers but the MC of the event told the audience he was here as a friend and the boos stopped,” PA says.
Zack Polanski, the Green party leader, who is Jewish, was not invited to attend – a decision that has been condemned by some campaigners.

Joseph Finlay (@josephfinlay.bsky.social)

I cannot quite believe I am writing this but apparently Nigel Farage has been invited to speak at the big Jewish communal rally against antisemitism on Sunday (as well as Starmer, Badenoch, Davey but seemingly not Polanski). What next, invite Oswald Mo...

Of course ZP and his tribe aren't invited and if his campaigners can't see why then they only confirm suspicions of how fucking deluded they are.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 10/05/2026 16:59

Well, the rock slide seems to be gathering pace above Starmer. Which has made me search my heart about him today.

I’ve concluded that I would like to feel sorry for him but that his manner and personality rules that out.

I can’t help feeling for him with a gloomy household, children to explain things to, an ever more likely need to pack up and move, surveying the rest of his working life with regret, frustration at his reputation and legacy, and so on.

But on the other hand, he gleefully took part in lying about the last government, he misled the public about his manifesto, he shits on others to save himself, he’s petulant and nasty to opponents, and he’s a gold medal winning hypocrite. So I end up not caring about his pain.

All in all, I don’t think he’s a likeable or decent man.

And, Rayner misses the point….

She’s actually part of the problem - the electorate don’t want expansion of the welfare state.
