Have the dolphins bailed yet? A cheery wave and a "thanks for all the fish".

It would not surprise me really. Given that the US have them doing kamikaze missions.

:-)

They're waiting for this wee mannie from the arctic to join them, but it's too hot for him plus Scottish fish!

Yeah, the results here look unutterably depressing.

If people can't learn from the Brexit fiasco, if they can't learn from everything Reform has managed to fuck up so far, and if they can't learn from what's happening in the US, I don't know what word applies to them. I hate to say it, but stupid doesn't cover it.

I remember a while back having a bit of a disagreement with a poster on this thread (although can't remember which one) on the issue of, can it happen here? I was saying it certainly could and they were saying the system here would prevent it. I was hoping they were right, but I'm increasingly gloomy.

I’m afraid the re-election of Trump for a second term is all the proof I need that basic intelligence tests should be required before anyone is allowed to vote. (Patronising, moi?)

I reckon what is happening in the US can happen in the UK, but it would be more difficult.

But then again, it could be easier.

So I am going to rename the chair I am sitting on. This chair is now a fence, and I am firmly sitting on it :-)

Lesson 101 on How to Increase the Enemy's Resolve to Stay the Course. Trump doesn't understand that the mere fact that Iran is able to retaliate at all means he's not won yet.
I remember the Sky News analyst saying that given the number of vessels stuck in the Strait and the speed at which they move under escort, even in a congo line formation, it would take over 200 days to clear the backlog. Cost to US taxpayers $$$$$$$$$$$$$$, but his mates don't pay tax, so no hay problema.

And all it would take for ships to not risk it, is a single vessel being attacked.

Trump's probably pleased at "Love tap". I'm the first one to call it that, it's never been done before, well maybe it has, maybe it hasn't."

Last night Donald Trump told ABC News in a phone interview that the retaliatory strikes against Iran were a 'love tap' - not the war restarting.
'It's just a love tap', the commander-in-chief said. When asked if it had broken the ceasefire he said: 'No, no, the ceasefire is going. It's in effect.'
Trump explained that the US was able to get three 'world-class American Destroyers' through the Strait with no damage in a post to Truth Social on Thursday night.

Catching up with the thread. But had to ask about "love tap"!

Where the eff did he pull that phrase from? 🤮

I thought it would not happen here before Trump went ahead with DOGE and killing and arresting US citizens via ICE, plus the long list of ignoring US laws. But now that I have seen that... nope, it can happen. If people do not stand up to stop it, then it can happen. Anywhere really.

The CNN feed has a bit about it. To save you having to search it, cut and paste below. Clear as mud really. Maybe he means like Macron and Wife in the plane. That thing he keeps going on about. I have left the links in the paste:

"US President Donald Trump’s “love tap” comment tells us a lot about the latest US strikes on Iran, according to CNN military analyst Cedric Leighton.
Following an exchange of fire between the US and Iran around the Strait of Hormuz, Trump had told ABC News on Thursday the ceasefire was still in effect and described the US strikes as “just a love tap.”
“I think what he is trying to say is that this is a measured response toward what the Iranians are doing,” Leighton told CNN following US strikes on Iranian facilities it said were linked to attacks on American warships in the Strait of Hormuz.
“What they’re saying is ‘you can attack a few things here but we’re going to respond.’”
Leighton said the US administration hopes this response will resolve the situation but it depends on whether Iran decides to “let things proceed in a diplomatic fashion” or retaliate.
This also ties into Iran’s assessment of the US proposal to end the war and whether or not they will agree to it, he added. Iran has not yet finalized its response to the US proposal, according to state media.
Trump’s “love tap” comment may also signal his intent to uphold the ceasefire and deescalate tensions, with Iran’s cooperation, according to Leighton. “They want to deescalate and this is their way of doing it,” he said."

US forces targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for launching a series of “unprovoked” missile, drone and small boat attacks against American warships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command said on Thursday.

This is really good.
They could be the real time travellers! Those lyrics.... if you add a line about betting on polymarket and through a line about supertankers stucked on arabian shores, you quite get today's picture!

I find 'love tap' completely baffling TBH and possibly more evidence - should anyone remain in any doubt - of him being doolally.
Commiserations to everyone on the election results. Grim and gloomy but sadly not unexpected.
Could one loathe and detest the likes of Farage and Trump more than one does?
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮There just aren't enough vomit emojis in existence are there?

Re the results, of ok to do a tangent. Following a thread here, that like most political threads on politics here, is about reform.

But I have the Daily Record feed open with the Scottish parliament results, that are starting to come in, and reform is not mentioned at all.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 08/05/2026 12:44

Well that's good news about Scotland @RedTagAlan, I'm doing some gardening at the moment so not following too closely. Thanks for the filling in.
Who is coming out successfully though? Not a big fan of the SNP these days it has to be said. 🫢 Are the Greens figuring much?
Once upon a time I'd have loved to see Green success, sadly now they, too, look quite a lot a bit bonkers.
May you live in interesting times huh?

Currently my council results are rolling in - bated breath - Greens won in the place I was told to tactically vote Labour - there was a queue and I was bothered but all good.

Farage has said that the detention and assylum centres will be in the areas that did not vote for his party, I have been told.
At least I will not be sent that far while I wait for my deportation. My husband and daughter will not need to drive that far to wave me goodbye LOL
Well, that is if they do drive at that time. There may not be fuel available two years down the line.
Maybe they put us in a galley instead of an airplane to deport us back home. And I have to operate my own oar. I better practice some rowing at the gym!

I may need to pay for my ticket back home! Or pay Trump's sea tolls on the way back! Maybe they sent me to a forced labour mine to extract some orange material till I make enough money to pay!

Love tap meaning to all the innocents on this thread.
It's when a domineering/abusive man hits the little woman to keep her in line. Not an all out beating, just a blow or two, hence 'tap'.

PerkingFaintly · 08/05/2026 13:52

That's what I guessed it must mean, @logicisall .Sad

I suppose one of my questions is, why is this part of Donald Trump's vocabulary?

He who has such trouble remembering words. This is a phrase that comes naturally to him?

The culture I live in, it is the opposite of what you say. It is the women who do the "playful hits".

Thank you - wow - a spade was a spade in my day though still not relevant that women were affected - sigh.

Why in earth would you ever ever use that phrase - every time I think he’s as low as can go he confounds me - jeez unbelievable.

Yup. That's the meaning.

Also covers abusive and toxically masculine men who 'playfully' smack any woman's bum 'a bit' too hard.

Usually used in a very aggrieved and innocent tone of voice as in "What are you angry about? That was just a love tap! No need to get upset about it". Kinda like ''bantz', but physical.
