But right now the Reform leadership is in the ascendancy. Remember mocking Brexiteers? They went out and voted. Didn't matter what the good points of Europe were, the narrative about boats and sovereignty and cards being held was played over and over. The supporters may get disparaged on here but the leadership is moving forwards. Starmer the only headline today and Nigel's helicopter rides and 5 million have slipped off the front pages as has the Clacton house ownership. Swap Reform for MAGA and it's the same script.

In my experience his followers do care. They hear him claim to be a man of the people, while his actions are screaming otherwise, and they are looking for alternatives. I believe Lowes restore party is on the march, picking up those poor disillusioned souls for whom Farage is not the answer.

I think what is often missed is why ? That is why does this division suit people and why pay for it ?

I reckon a massive part is home propaganda.

PRC state media for example often has articles about violent protests going on in the west. And the message is always the same. " Look how democracy fails the people. But your Party loves you and protects you".

My simplistic theory is that destabilization helps the nefarious. If the 'good' are distracted, the 'bad' can advance their agendas. Those that are taken in by the unfounded propaganda serve the purpose and in turn feel that they're part of a group - they become part of the cult. Once they're indoctrinated they'll believe and spout whatever they're fed, with no interest in whether it's true or not. I saw a photo of a bot farm where one person sat in front of may phones, all posting the same slop. Critical thinking seems to have been replaced by believing repetition - the more often you see it, the truer it must be. Facebook is a walking psych experiment.

In the Alberta separatist movement, the theme seems to be that the government is corrupt - the people making the 'Fuck Trudeau' bumper stickers immediately switched to 'Fuck Carney' when he took over, so obviously not based on actual performance. They'd either go with Poilievre (MAGA fan, no security clearance, no plan except maybe to hand Canada to Trump on a platter) or separate entirely (with absolutely no comprehension or plan on the logistics of how that would work).
