Clearly his Random Policy Generator decided against talks for the next 12 hours.
I'm worried that a Post -It with his takeaway order might get mixed up in the pieces of paper he tosses in the hat to make policy, and tomorrow he will Truth "Iran has been totally defeated and must give up their Big Mac with extra fries"

You had me at Random Policy Generator. ❤I visualised an episode of Lost in Strait Space where the Robinson family found one and the poor robot started shouting Danger! Danger! when the dad used it.

Correction.

It wasn't a BBC reporter, but Iran who renamed Trump's Project Freedom, Project Deadlock.

I notice lots of love in the comments for the F5s, which Iran bought from the US in the 1970s.

Indeed..

The F-4s involved will have been of similar vintage and it says a lot for the Iranian aerospace industry that they've kept that more complex type combat worthy for so long.

Just to add to the above - as Ward Carroll says the US's force protection policy was inadequate.

Either somebody somewhere misjudged Iranian capabilities or chose to ignore the risk.

@SerendipityJane I can't be bothered to go back and find it, but your analysis of the BBC is spot on.

A little snippet of today's good news.

Ag secretary confirming 1 in 4 US farmers has no fertilizer secured, American Farm Bureau survey says up to 70% can’t afford enough fertilizer for the season under the spiked costs Honestly shocked this isn’t bigger news. 25% of farms are just not planting at all this season. Farm bankruptcy up 46%

Not for the AG confirming, but if you search US farmers fertilizer, there are lots of stories and sourcing. Here's one.

In the 80s, when ElectroMagnetic Pulse (EMP) started being discussed publicly, it was noted that valves wee immune - it was the bleeding edge MOSFET and CMOS semiconductors that were most at risk.

At the same time, we were joking about Russian radios still using valves.

(A friend of mine joined the RAF - a select female engineer. She had to l;earn about valves after her 1980s degree in electronics as radar still uses them. It's a power thing)

I know I could Google it, but is teh US self sufficient in food to start with ?

The less thick of us will know that Great Britain made a strategic and permanent decision to eschew food self sufficiency in order to make money. Anyone who wibbles on about "growing our own food" is either stupid, ignorant or grifting. Possibly simultaneously.

Hope springs eternal.
An indication that a peace deal is possible soon? If so, the concessions details will be interesting.

Macron sends aircraft carrier towards Gulf
Emmanuel Macron has sent an aircraft carrier towards the Gulf to help ships transit the Strait of Hormuz once a peace deal is in place.
Mr Macron spoke to the Iranian president as Iran was reportedly studying a final one-page document spelling out the terms of the deal to end the fighting and reopen the Strait.

The French president said he had sent the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier group through the Suez Canal in preparation for the joint British-French operation to guide commercial vessels once the deal was done.
“The multinational mission that France and the United Kingdom have set up can help restore confidence among shipowners and insurers,” Mr Macron wrote in a statement.
“It will, by its very nature, be distinct from the warring parties. The pre-positioning of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle fits within this context.”

OIL. It's always Oil.

“I was with ExxonMobil last night. The chairman was here, and we’re talking about Venezuela, along with a lot of them Chevron. They were all, all here last night. They all want to go there and elsewhere,”.

CNN:

"President Donald Trump said Wednesday — after referencing the war in Iran — that he met with top executives from major US oil companies, including Chevron and ExxonMobil, to discuss oil and Venezuela.

Enemies have great pride. We went into Venezuela, smart people, great people, a really strong military. We won it very quickly, and it’s been a great thing for Venezuela,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, after saying that Iranians, “have great pride.”

The president added that energy companies are eager to expand operations. He also met with some oil executives last week, when some praised his move to blockade Iranian ports, according to previous CNN reporting.

“I was with ExxonMobil last night. The chairman was here, and we’re talking about Venezuela, along with a lot of them Chevron. They were all, all here last night. They all want to go there and elsewhere,” he said.

The president hosted guests at the White House Tuesday night for a “Rose Garden Club” dinner."

You go to sleep for a few hours and the cycle starts again.

The US military fired on an Iranian-flagged oil tanker on Wednesday, shortly after Donald Trump issued a fresh ultimatum to Tehran, telling it to accept a deal to end the war or face a new wave of US bombing “at a much higher level and intensity than it was before”.
The US fighter fired several rounds and “disabled the tanker’s rudder” as it attempted to breach the US’s blockade of Iranian ports, US Central Command said in a social media post.
The attack came after the US president’s social media announcement – the latest in a rapid series of dramatic and often contradictory changes in policy amid unconfirmed reports of progress in stalled negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Yup. And it looks like it might have been Saudi Arabia that knocked his "Project Freedom" on it's head.

The report was from NBC, but technical difficulties mean I can't link ( Its blocked). Here is an alternate.

Saudi Arabia Blocks US Military Access Amid Project Freedom Dispute (timesofislamabad.com)

I am noticing a subtle shift in the CNN feed since Trump made his "treason" comment. That's anecdotal of course.

If that report is true, then it looks like folk are getting fed up with Trumps fucking about.

Is the French vessel on the way because Trump assured them that it was make or break time and he was going to make good on his threat to bomb Iran into submission, so armageddon in SoH in less than two weeks?

I reckon when the Euro folk say they want the SoH open, they mean for all. I do not see what good blockading Iran does.

So send in the French Carrier, the Americans piss off, and the party hats come out as the Champagne corks are popped. Then the adults can start talking. Hopefully with hangovers after the party.
