I don't even trust the BBC weather forecast - but we live in hope.

The BBC has become expert at pretending to be balanced. whilst pushing it's own agenda. Quite similar to the instantaneous vs. continuous comment a few posts earlier. You will never catch them out on a single story. But when you add up the stories over a period of time, you clearly see the pattern.

The most obvious example being Farages inclusion as a permanent member of the Question Time team. Picking any individual broadcast belies the situation over months and years.

E2A: The post I referred to was in "another thread" 😀

It seems to me that where "right wing" and "dim" become synonymous, there is a lot of celebration of "things" and very little acknowledgement of what those things then presaged.
Brexit being the paradigm.

Sky reporting the same.

Oil price drops below $100
By James Sillars, business and economics reporter
Growing optimism over a US-Iran peace deal is driving oil prices down hard.
A barrel of Brent crude oil dipped below $100 a short time ago. That's down more than 8% on last night’s close.
Stock markets in Europe are also making big gains, recovering losses seen earlier in the week.
The FTSE 100 in London was 2.2% up in late morning trade.
Any stocks linked to the fortunes for the global economy, such as those in the mining and financial sectors, were leading the winners.

Rubio at the WH yesterday set it out in words of one syllable for those of limited intelligence <sarcasm>: No-one owns the world's oceans, everyone is entitled to free passage - and that's why the US will continue to attack Iran over the SoH...except that this morning they've apparently paused their attacks.

It would be polite if Trump told Rubio what the F is going on

Indeed. Further proof the world has gone to hell in a handcart. Of course, the upside is that if Trump could run for a third term, then theoretically so could President Obama (I doubt if he’d want to), but of course the GOP would forbid people who wore tan suits to run ever again.

I believe wearing of Tan Suits is disqualifying under the Eleventy Twelfth amendment (MAGA edition of Constitution)

Archived Washington Post article on the damage Iran has inflicted on US military assests

https://archive.ph/CTXx7

Iran has hit far more U.S. military assets than reported, satellite images show
Imagery published by Iranian state-affiliated media and verified by The Post shows damage to at least 228 structures or pieces of equipment at U.S. military sites.

@RedTagAlan - very interesting, thank you.
('Kamikaze dolphins' though 😔)

Oil price dropping, wait for the shorts to update their position and then the bombs will start up again…

logicisall · 06/05/2026 14:06

Very informative article @DuncinToffee Was it the WP that recently won an award?

No wonder Kegsbreath is so touchy.

You are right not to, at least not the web version; they don't use the Met Office any more and their forecasts are often wildly at odds with what the Met Office suggest and actually happens. For this area, anyway. I have taken to using the weather forecasts from the nearest airport instead of the BBC, as provided for me by my ISP (who lives in my basement).

Ref damage to US facilities,.youtube piece here by a well respected former USN aviator on how it appears the Iranians exploited seams in the defence systems and AI.

On the basis of do the little pictures on the website match what I can see out of my window - think I'll stick with the Met website also Met has access to better satellite technology IIRC

RedTagAlan · 06/05/2026 15:41

According to Sky news, Trump says "It's too soon" to start thinking about face-to-face peace talks.

Translation : He is making it up as he goes along and is trying to BS his way out.

'American wishlist, not a reality': Iranian officials cast doubt on US proposal to end war

Ebrahim Rezaei, the spokesperson of the Iranian parliament’s national security and foreign policy commission, has poured cold water on the Axios report claiming the US and Iran were nearing a one-page memorandum to end the war, saying it was an “American wishlist [and] not a reality”.

So basically, it appears that if anyone reports what WH "insiders"/ WH Regime members/ POTUS says, then Iran just says "fake news".

And it does appear that Iran are sort of correct. Because really, we speculated that Iran might be in disarray and torn apart by infighting. But if we apply the same reasoning to the WH, we should get the same conclusion.

But now Iran are being consistent. And on top of that, Iranian claims of attacks against the US are now turning out to be true in many cases. So was Iran ever being inconsistent.

Ha ha ha. Just by chance as I write this, I am watching Gaslight. The Bergman?Boyer/ Cotton classic.

And I was about to write that someone is gaslighting us here.

Ha Ha Ha Ha.

BruceAndNosh · 06/05/2026 15:54

Clearly his Random Policy Generator decided against talks for the next 12 hours.
I'm worried that a Post -It with his takeaway order might get mixed up in the pieces of paper he tosses in the hat to make policy, and tomorrow he will Truth "Iran has been totally defeated and must give up their Big Mac with extra fries"

Hyssops · 06/05/2026 15:58

I've never come across a news situation where things change so quickly and swing from one thing to the total opposite.

Nightmare 🤯

But are things changing? The ships that are stuck have been stuck for months. Nothing changed for them.

What does keep changing is what BS Trump spouts.

Exactly!
Maybe money is changing hands?
I know it is leaving mine and I have not spotted ot back!
Otherwise, it is risk of missiles and drones from the North East around 2 pm, heavy fall, sunny morning and 60C on the localities near the petrochemical fire.......

Pedallleur · 06/05/2026 16:56

Trump has spent a career lying, defaulting etc. He even cheats at golf!! He isn't going to change his tactics now. Perhaps he thought everyone would just roll over because he is so powerful and has bigly ships and bombs. Now he's found out its not like defaulting on a loan or grabbing some woman.

I noticed many years ago that in any forecast, the headline is always towards the "what would climate change be ?" end of the window. It's teh same sort of logic behind a bakers dozen, I suppose. But it skews the perception,

Something nice about Ted Turner "back in the day" then tactless comment about how Turner must be turning in his grave about what fake news CNN has turned into
