What’s your current favourite sandwich?

We had some coleslaw left the other day that needed eating up, so I had it with some cheese in a sandwich. It’s years since I last had a cheese and coleslaw sandwich and I really enjoyed it. It’s my current favourite, even better with a few crisps added in for extra crunch.

Chicken, brie and cranberry sauce

You are right, it really does look like cat food but tastes lovely😁

I like it too, with mustard 😋

Cold sliced beef, mayo, whole grain mustard, baby spinach and some crispy onions. Possibly with a slice of gouda.

This but with a hot breaded chicken goujon instead of beef.

I could definitely eat that. Yum.

I must give a call out to a Gordon Ramsey steak sandwich which has been a family favourite for years. I may have tweaked it a bit over the years or religiously copied it, I cant remember but it’s basically: fried (sauteed?) red onions and fresh chopped tomatoes (cherry?) to a jammy consistency, season, steak (to your preference) sliced, one steak would feed me and two kids. Mayo mixed with mustard. A few salad leaves. Grill or toast ciabatta rolls. Spread mustard mayo on both halves, steak slices, onion jam, a few salad leaves. Yum.

I sometimes make my son (and me) a (bought) baguette, sliced like a hot dog roll filled with buffalo mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, parma ham, topped with torn fresh basil leaves with a drizzle of olive oil and ground black pepper on top. Lovely and fresh and so much better if the baguette is good quality.

murasaki · 27/04/2026 15:49

I'm now wondering whether to sandwich my leftover Nigella chicken and chorizo traybake tomorrow and just have the potatoes on the side, or just reheat it as is. Decisions decisions....

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/04/2026 16:36

Thin omelette and kim chi on granary bread is my current favourite. My long-time favourite is always good, tuna mayo with sliced banana on a wholemeal bagel. After Christmas I always love a turkey, camembert, bread sauce and cranberry sauce on freshly baked brown roll.

billysboy · 27/04/2026 16:38

Cheese and honey , ate them as a kid at the Black Horse at Brent Pelham and have loved them ever since

Wishbone436 · 27/04/2026 16:40

I’m a wrap monster at the mo & can’t stop eating spicy chicken goujon wraps with coleslaw! Or (I’m sure you will all think it’s gross 🤣) mackerel with mayo, beetroot & hash brown!

Ophy83 · 27/04/2026 16:50

Italian sandwich with freshly made flat bread, mortadella, melty mozzarella and pistachio. Preferably eaten in Italy!

Just googled "potted haugh" and never have I seen a food that looks more like cat food.

Known as “potted dog” when I was growing up in West Yorkshire. Probably for a good reason…

Oh..... mackerel with mayo and chrain and maybe a rocket leaf or two.

Ooof.

I had forgotten that classic combo.

Peanut butter and banana

ginasevern · 27/04/2026 17:36

Mature cheddar and raw onion on crusty white bread with lots of proper butter and a side of cheese and onion crisps.

I had a travesty of a coronation chicken once. It was just chicken in coloured mayo. No apricot jam/mango chutney, no slivered almonds, no sultanas. Hardly any curry paste in it. It was just yellow chicken mayo.

Specialist sandwich shop who usually do better than that too.

Sometimes you get chicken tikka billed as coronation chicken which is a huge fail! My heart sinks if the filling is orange rather than yellow. I'll eat chicken tikka but it's not the same.

floppybit · 27/04/2026 17:58

Cheese and pickle in a crusty roll or tinned salmon and vinegar.

Tompy231 · 27/04/2026 18:41

I just love Bacon rolls with a wee bit HP sauce. Current lunch every day I’m at home

MildlyAnnoyed · 27/04/2026 20:48

Ham & tomato or roast chicken on white bread with butter & salt.

JillMW · 27/04/2026 21:23

Cream cheese with capers, lemon juice and gherkins, guacamole, poached egg and smoked mackerel in an English muffin

Yourinmyspot · 27/04/2026 21:43

So many of these sound delicious. I love a good cheese and onion or cheese and pickle sandwich too.

DD’s very favourite is a leftover chicken kebab, so only gets them once in a while.

a good egg mayo but the egg can’t be chunky

bacon and mushrooms

there used to be a place in King’s Cross station that did amazing Ruben in a caraway bread. Was delicious

shop near us does chicken tikka, red onion and cheese in a baguette they warm up then drizzle with mint yogurt that’s good but sickly

I love a good sandwich

I grate my boiled eggs for egg mayo 😋

I like them simple and quick to make at home, rarely have them when out n about because I'm a bit fussy about the extra stuff they put in (ready made) sandwiches.

Tuna mayo grated mature cheese
Egg mayo spring onion, or a dash of onion salt
Mature cheddar and cheese n onion crisps
Mature cheddar, mayo and branston mixed.

I don't put anything else with the above, so no bits of this and that. What you see is what you get. I won't die from the want of a bit of limp lettuce etc.!

Onion salt? What a stroke of genius! Why have I never thought of that? Onion goes so well with egg mayo.

BunnyLake · 28/04/2026 08:24

I rarely buy sandwiches from supermarkets but if I do I’ll always go for the prawn mayo first (not marie rose dressing).

henlake7 · 28/04/2026 08:46

Im going with 'cheese and ....'
I cant pick a favourite but cheese with onion or pickle, beetroot, crisps, grilled. So many possibilities.😀
