What’s your current favourite sandwich?

We had some coleslaw left the other day that needed eating up, so I had it with some cheese in a sandwich. It’s years since I last had a cheese and coleslaw sandwich and I really enjoyed it. It’s my current favourite, even better with a few crisps added in for extra crunch.

Egg, tomato and salad cream from M&S

GrueyTwoey · Today 12:59

Really ripe tomatoes, a little bit of mayo and black pepper on wholemeal bread.

Cheese savoury

This is my favourite with sliced tomato in it

I made some slaw, falafels and tomato salsa a couple of days ago and had leftovers so had them all in a sourdough sandwich and it was delicious!

Love a hot roast beef with gravy and horseradish

a good egg mayo but the egg can’t be chunky

bacon and mushrooms

there used to be a place in King’s Cross station that did amazing Ruben in a caraway bread. Was delicious

shop near us does chicken tikka, red onion and cheese in a baguette they warm up then drizzle with mint yogurt that’s good but sickly

I love a good sandwich

I would eat pineapple in a salad sandwich ! Australians probably have it in their genes to make it correctly.

No - DH is Aussie and says the ones I make in the UK are far superior to anything he's had in Australia. I have to agree. 😂

Ham pickle cucumber and red onion in a baguette with butter. Going to have one today in fact. Bloody lovely. Also going to eat it in the garden for full top tier enjoyment 🥳

Cheddar, ham and mustard mayo, brie and cranberry sauce or egg mayo with watercress.

He is. 😁

Rare roast beef with horseradish or mustard on thick brown or white bloomer.

Wonderknicks · Today 13:16

I used to work near a great sandwich shop EXCEPT they used a giant tub of cheap margarine & you had to get in quick to stop them slapping it on! Makes the whole thing inedible & id rather have nothing, or a smear of mayo.
Actually, simple is often good. A proper baguette with good butter & good ham, can't beat it.
Edited for typos

Coronation chicken

I love coleslaw. I used to get this crusty roll with just coleslaw in it as a kid. On one of my first jobs my fave was also a coleslaw and salad sandwich on soft white bread from this really nice cafe.

I need to make some! The ones from the shop are too mayo heavy or vinegary or sweet I find.

I'd absolutely love a grilled halloumi, ham, spicy ayvar and tzatziki sandwich on nice grilled Greek or Turkish bread right now. But I have a lot of love for the humble Tesco egg and cress!

SerendipityCat · Today 13:21

When I’m not eating a scampi fries buttie (or my latest, spicy nik-naks) I’m fond of a fish finger baguette with shredded lettuce, plenty of mayonnaise and a good grinding of salt and black pepper. My very own filet-o-fish, only much nicer and cheaper.

bungobungobungo · Today 13:23

My other fave is a Demi baguette sliced in half lengthways with cream cheese spread on it topped with gw smoky bacon crisps. I only eat the one half at a time though.

ERthree · Today 13:31

Still love an old fashioned white bread and potted haugh (meat paste) sandwich or bread and dripping but sadly my heart can't take them anymore.

Just googled "potted haugh" and never have I seen a food that looks more like cat food.

omlette sandwich - lavish butter on both sides of bread, and then some cheese that melts well (so: cheddar - grated, camembert, blue cheese...)

Sometimes i put mushrooms in the omlette too.
Bliss.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · Today 13:37

As we speak I'm eating a spicy salmon fillet, carrot, pepper and cucumber sandwich with naan bread and it's magnificent.

AngryHerring · Today 13:42

the other thing is what our family call The Sandwich:

good bread buttered, on one slice put mayo then top with ham, sliced cheese, sliced boiled egg, tomato, cucumber lettuce and then coleslaw. On the other slice put a thick layer of peanut butter. Season the veg as you go along (especially with lemon pepper)

It sounds awful but it really works.

Turnitoffnonagain · Today 13:42

Crusty granary roll with mature cheddar and tomatoes. S&P.

I have been thinking about an egg mayo with proper cress. 🤔 You don't see that about so much now.

cubistqueen · Today 13:43

Sainsburys ploughman’s sandwich is lush. But the best ever is a home made baguette with thinly sliced iberico ham, ripe tomatoes and a few rocket leaves. Good salted butter is vital. The daughters both like a bit of mayo but I like mine without. Has to be served with cold beer or a good rose though and sat outside in the patio in the sun. We spent many Saturday lunchtimes last year putting the world to rights over a baguette and rose wine (both children are adults btw 😂).
