What is something you do even though you know it isn’t good for you?

Sunbathing/not avoiding the sun. I’ve been an outdoors/beach person my whole life. I love nothing more than a hot sunny day outside, swimming, hiking, day at the beach. I don’t want to cover up and hide away from the sun. I don’t want a big hat and sitting in the shade.

I know I have and will continue to age quicker. I know the risk of skin cancer is higher. But on this one I don’t care, the quality of my life is more important to me.

So what are yours?

Sugarfree Red Bull every day. I love it.

gingercat02 · 26/04/2026 13:19

This thread has made me have crisps (and a cheese and coleslaw sandwich) fat overload 😋

This made me giggle because the last thing my DF requested before he died was a can of Coke! Even though he hadn’t been eating or drinking for days.

Aw I hope he enjoyed it 🥰

On a positive note though it doesn’t stain your teeth like coffee according to my dentist.

This is great news as it's my main worry!!!

Crushed23 · 26/04/2026 13:59

Lots of things!

Drink alcohol 2-3 nights a week and likely exceed the 14 units recommendation (don’t really keep track)

Take recreational drugs at raves and festivals.

Stay in a stressful job that is soul destroying and eroding my mental health (no choice with this one).

I also love the sun and beach life, and consequently I’m ageing like a pear 😂

Mackerelfillets · 26/04/2026 17:42

Drinking alcohol. My diet is pretty clean, I dont smoke and I exercise but I love a drink.

Vargas · 26/04/2026 17:42

Drink wine, occasional bit of sunbathing, eat crisps most days, and I stay up past my bedtime way too often.

But I don't smoke, I eat healthy food and I have never done drugs so I refuse to feel guilty... :-)

Efrogwraig · 26/04/2026 17:44

Listening to the news.

Wine 🍷 😞

I eat a healthy plant-based diet, get tons of exercise, 2 litres of water a day, good sleep and fresh air, avoid microplastics as much as possible, volunteer, etc … but I just can’t seem to stop drinking 😭.

Unless you're swigging a bottle or more a night I would not worry about it...

godmum56 · 26/04/2026 17:48

Pretty much everything in my life I enjoy, apart from reading and gardening, is bad for me. I am in my 70's and don't care. On the plus side, I don't smoke or vape, never have, I avoid all artificial sweeteners because they upset my stomach and make me feel like shit, have never sunbathed and drink very little alcohol although I have a drink when I want one.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 26/04/2026 17:51

Pork scratchings. I hadn’t had them for years then last year I was peckish and spied some in the pub, now I’m addicted to the unhealthy snack. The best ones are in the pub with a pint of ale 😋

Dancingintherain09 · 26/04/2026 17:51

Cheese as I'm mildly lactose intolerant. And wine. But wine and cheese together 🥰🥰🥰

SatsumaDog · 26/04/2026 17:53

i eat bacon. A bacon sandwich is my favourite breakfast. Not every day, but a couple of times at the weekend. Everything I read says it’s unhealthy, but I can’t give it up!

tommyhoundmum · 26/04/2026 17:54

eat chocolate every day

Dusky21 · 26/04/2026 17:58

Pepsi max and the sun!

Beeinalily · 26/04/2026 18:00

Eating when I'm not hungry, I'm honestly not sure why. I won't have the OP's addiction though, I hate the heat.

Drinking. I know it's literal poison. I've cut down a lot. But I still love a glass of red by the fire or some bubbles in the sun.

Me too! I’ve cut down a lot to maybe one or two glasses a month. in my teens and 20s I went out partying 2 or 3 times a week drinking spirits all night. I just felt invincible when I was young!

ToWhitToWhoo · 26/04/2026 18:14

Eating too much chocolate

jamestheleastofall · 26/04/2026 18:19

Beer in a pub. Not the right atmosphere having a bottle at home.
I found myself on Google looking for pipe tobacco the other day. There is a shop cum cigar lounge near me.
It's just a matter of time . . . .

Get stressed.

gingercat02 · 25/04/2026 18:50

Oh I LOVED smoking but stopped. Still walk past a smoker and take a deep breath. If it wouldn't kill me I would start again tomorrow.

I smoked for 38 years and tried many times to kick the habit. I finally succeeded and now I find the smell disgusting, can't stand it 🤮

MummyJ36 · 26/04/2026 18:22

wine…. 😬 I’m approaching 40 and realised I need to limit it to once or twice a week. Even once glass every couple of nights starts to chip away at me. But it’s hard!!

Reasonstobelieve · 26/04/2026 18:23

LikelyLacking · 26/04/2026 08:50

And me too! I still will slow down my walk and loiter behind a smoker 😄 and I hated it when vaping became popular and replaced the smell of cigarette smoke with a cloud of noxious, sweet, fumes.

It's amazing how different we can be. The smell of smoke from someone smoking,or worse out walking & suddenly smelling weed makes me positively wretch 🤢

Lorrainedrops · 26/04/2026 18:37

Eating too much chocolate, my vice...well I hardly ever drink or smoke lol.
