What is something you do even though you know it isn’t good for you?

Sunbathing/not avoiding the sun. I’ve been an outdoors/beach person my whole life. I love nothing more than a hot sunny day outside, swimming, hiking, day at the beach. I don’t want to cover up and hide away from the sun. I don’t want a big hat and sitting in the shade.

I know I have and will continue to age quicker. I know the risk of skin cancer is higher. But on this one I don’t care, the quality of my life is more important to me.

So what are yours?

Eat the wrong types of food. Either it's too much junk or too many artificial sweeteners....I never seem to get it quite right.

Being too sedentary. I know it's a bad idea in general and especially for me as I have a dodgy hip which hurts if I sit too long. Sometimes though I plonk myself in front of the computer playing a game til I practically take root!

Whosthetabbynow · 25/04/2026 19:33

Lager. Vapes.

User975312469 · 25/04/2026 19:35

Buy an ice-cream most lunchtimes even though I'm on statins for high cholesterol.

Pabbel · 25/04/2026 19:38

Cream cakes and soaking up sunshine...when there is some.

Ribenaberry12 · 25/04/2026 19:44

Ultra processed foods.
Scrolling on TikTok when I could be doing anything else that would be more productive.

Anjelika · 25/04/2026 19:44

Sunbathing. Sitting out in the sun reading a book is probably my number one pleasure. I wear SPF but I must admit I want a tan. Apart from that I’m pretty healthy.

Groovers · 25/04/2026 19:45

Coffee

TiredofLDN · 25/04/2026 19:48

Daily Coke Zero
Occasional cigarette
Dont get enough sleep
Drink alcohol (prob average 8 units a week)

on the other hand

I eat mostly wholefoods
I walk everywhere
I’m careful about chemicals we use in the house
exercise 3x a week
grow my own veg

balance innit

ToadRage · 25/04/2026 19:49

Sunbathing, junk food and according to my GP shaving. I had an infected hair follicle in my armpit, he gave me antibiotics and it got better but he told me to stop shaving, which is OK in the winter but i can't bring myself to go natural in the summer.

MrsTravelBug · 25/04/2026 19:50

I agree with you OP, being out in the sunshine makes me feel truly happy and content.

I don’t smoke or drink and I am a healthy weight, we all have to have some pleasures in life.

LaurenBacal · 25/04/2026 19:51

Coffee, whisky. Scrolling on my phone mindlessly instead of doing something productive.

scalt · 25/04/2026 19:53

Wearing trainers without socks. But it feels so nice!

Squirrelchops1 · 25/04/2026 19:58

Sunbathing...I bloody love a tan. What's the point of going on a beach holiday and not tanning.
Alcohol
Diet. Now despite being a gym bunny, if i could, I'd live off sandwiches with the odd roast dinner thrown in
Shit sleep

princesspadam · 25/04/2026 20:07

Drinking way too much
Vaping
driving too fast
scrolling on tik tok

blackheartsgirl · 25/04/2026 23:21

Vape. Although I have cut down hugely and I’m in my way to finally stopping.

FruitFlyPie · 25/04/2026 23:24

Diet coke for me (3-4 cans per day).

Chips (every 1-2 days)

Chocolate (every day).

blankcanvas3 · 25/04/2026 23:29

Wine. Sunbathing. Drunk cigarette. Red bull. But I do exercise every day and very rarely eat any processed/junk foods so I have to hope it balances it out

Yellowpapersun · 25/04/2026 23:34

Chocolate.

Biscuits.
Chocolate biscuits.

Ruthietuthie · 25/04/2026 23:36

I eat a whole block of the Tonychocolonely milk chocolate in just a few hours. Once it's open, I just cannot resist. But I still keep buying it every shop. I wish I could be someone who just had a chunk or two a day.

user1469565563 · 25/04/2026 23:45

Scroll mumsnet when I should be going to sleep!

ratherfarther · 25/04/2026 23:53

Smoking, drinking shots and driving too fast . All at the same time usually .

<tada>
😊

EndlessSeaViews · 26/04/2026 00:00

Eat far too many packets of crisps per day - I'm addicted to the saltiness and the crunch and nothing else comes close to a good packet of crisps.

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/04/2026 00:13

gingercat02 · 25/04/2026 18:50

Oh I LOVED smoking but stopped. Still walk past a smoker and take a deep breath. If it wouldn't kill me I would start again tomorrow.

Me too! I gave up smoking almost 40 years ago when planning DS1 but still miss it.

Frannieisnthappy · 26/04/2026 00:35

mumofoneAloneandwell · 25/04/2026 18:44

Drink coke zero 😩

Why is this so bad?

Giraffehaver · 26/04/2026 00:45

Eat copious amounts of chocolate even with type 2 diabetes
