Which is you favourite city in the world? I have three
Bristol - for the music scene, creativity and independent spirit
Munich - for the lakes, cycling culture, climate
Marseille - for the beaches, proximity to Provencal towns and landscape, diversity, and the fact it is in France

Seville and Tromso

ANagsHead · 20/04/2026 07:49

Edinburgh, Scotland. (Just breathtaking, and so livable in.)

Marseille, France. (If I don’t eventually retire to a Cité Radieuse apartment there’s no justice in this world.)

Lagos, Nigeria. (The life. The energy. The fun!)

Stockholm and Budapest have been my favourite for city breaks but Vancouver is the only place me and DH actually googled jobs and apartments! It’s the dream!

AleaEim · 20/04/2026 07:54

NYC hands down the best city I’ve ever visited

Dublin because it’s my hometown and I have a soft spot for it, I also love being near sea and mountains and Dublin has that.

Toronto, because I lived there in my twenties and miss my life back then

Vancouver because sea and mountains

LA, just loved it

London, my now home is growing on me but I can’t tell if I like it or if it’s just familiar now I’m here 10 years.

Laurmolonlabe · 20/04/2026 07:58

Rome by a country mile.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/04/2026 08:00

Always liked Glasgow and London, but I've recently (since DS2 has been studying there) absolutely fallen in love with Tallinn.

GoodkneeBadKnee · 20/04/2026 08:01

London. Born and bred here. I bloody love it. Never want to leave.
Madrid. Fantastic place. Has it's own identity and is so stylish.

idontknowhowtodreamyourdreams · 20/04/2026 08:35

London. Been here for 20 years. Not without its issues (same as anywhere) but I fucking love this city.

Partial to Seville too.

gannett · 20/04/2026 08:44

London
Berlin
Naples, Bologna, Rome (but you need to know where to go to avoid the tourists... I guess that's true in London too)
Tbilisi
Montreal except the weather (a big "except")

Spanglybangles · 20/04/2026 07:38

Haha right! Love the place really, but it’s so much nicer in the sun. Weather actually looks pretty decent currently. Looking forward to my next visit this summer 😊

I visited Vancouver 2 years ago and the weather was fabulous. Had an amazing time, definitely in my top three with Sydney and Melbourne.
Son lived in Vancouver for a year and yes there was a lot of rain .

Miranda65 · 20/04/2026 08:58

Rome definitely Number One.
Honourable mentions for London, Vienna, St Petersburg and Cape Town.

Callmeback · 20/04/2026 09:06

London, Edinburgh, Krakow, Vegas, Bath, York, Durham, Lincoln.

JulietteHasAGun · 20/04/2026 09:08

Manchester. Small enough to get around easily, big enough to have everything going on you could need.

Princejoffyjaffur · 20/04/2026 09:11

London, Paris, Rome

Onefortheroad25 · 20/04/2026 09:18

London.. My mum is born and bred London so I’ve spent a lot of time there over the years. She moved to Ireland when she met my dad (big mistake!)
I would love to live in London.
Amsterdam..It’s just so laid back and I have lovely memories of a long weekend there with DH.

hotdoggies · 20/04/2026 09:37

I'm not a city person so for me it's the smaller ones like Tallinn, Palma, Malaga that I could go back to again and again. Outside Europe I enjoyed Madaba in Jordan, Siem Reap and Ubud.

I hated living in London and would hate living in Paris, Rome, Istanbul, NY, Bangkok, Marrakech or Kathmandu for example but all are amazing for a visit. Vancouver seems more liveable to me than most big cities so if i had to live in a big city I'd choose that one.

Pastit12 · 20/04/2026 09:40

Florence admittedly it’s been a while since I last went there but we spent a week there for my 50th was lucky the hotel we stayed more or less 5-minutes from Uffezi so very central .
I loved wondering about on my own having coffee watching the world go by ( sometimes my husband was “ galleried out “ fancied a siesta ) Never felt unsafe.
Went back few years later and the hotel was still there hope it hasn’t changed too much.

snurtifier · 20/04/2026 10:00

Vienna.

VividDeer · 20/04/2026 10:11

Vancouver (in summer)
San Sebastian
I do like Bristol too, and Cardiff

LilyRose88 · 20/04/2026 12:33

London
Antwerp
Bangkok

estrogone · 20/04/2026 12:42

Melbourne - my adopted home. It is so vibrant and diverse and green. I adore it. I lived in Brisbane for 15 years before moving here in 2024 - the two cities are like being in different countries (did not love Brisbane).

Cape Town - where I grew up, vibrant full of soul and very beautiful. Amazing food and people.

Vienna at Christmas. Love it.

CountryShepherd · 20/04/2026 12:59

I love Boston, so much to see and do, love the waterfront, all very walkable. Also Dublin, for similar reasons!

Noodledog · 20/04/2026 13:12

Rome and Bologna
Granada and Seville
Porto

And outside Europe, I absolutely loved Hanoi. Couldn't live there though, unfortunately the pollution is terrible.

I'm interested in Madrid getting so many mentions, it's by far my least favourite of the Spanish cities I've visited, and tbh one of my least favourite European cities. The three art galleries across from the Retiro park are incredible though.

LoveHearts69 · 20/04/2026 13:23

I love Athens and Istanbul

Tiddlywinks63 · 20/04/2026 13:38

Venice
Amsterdam
St David’s, Pembrokeshire
