Which is you favourite city in the world? I have three
Bristol - for the music scene, creativity and independent spirit
Munich - for the lakes, cycling culture, climate
Marseille - for the beaches, proximity to Provencal towns and landscape, diversity, and the fact it is in France

London - I've lived here for 35 years and there's always something new to discover
Paris - lovely people, friendly and tolerant of my terrible French
Venice - just magical and not like anywhere else

Bristol isn't an odd choice if you are a young person. Many graduates stay on there as it is such a great place to live when you are young.

London. Took my New York obsessed teen to nyc recently and we had a great time but she agreed and said London was so much better.

My teens said the same thing.

Ive been to Rome more times than I could count and I'd go again in a heartbeat. Absolutely love it.

London. I’ve never visited another city that comes close to it in my estimation. It’s the best place in the world.

Norugratsatall · 20/04/2026 16:22

I’m fairly well travelled and still think London is the best city in the world.

IfalldownbutIgetupagain · 20/04/2026 16:26

Newcastle, Berlin, Mahon ( not sure it’s big enough to count as a city but it’s one of my favourite town/cities

HeirToTheIronThrone · 20/04/2026 16:30

Edinburgh. And, one that no one has mentioned yet - Quebec City. I just loved it, such a fascinating cultural mash-up and the architecture is mad. Also, poutine on every corner.

My absolute favourite is Dubrovnik, I love that place.
I also really liked Munich.

So many saying Edinburgh - we’ve thought about going this year. What’s so great about it? Would tweens enjoy?

savvy7 · 20/04/2026 18:10

Florence

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 20/04/2026 18:11

Rome and Bologna
Granada and Seville
Porto

And outside Europe, I absolutely loved Hanoi. Couldn't live there though, unfortunately the pollution is terrible.

I'm interested in Madrid getting so many mentions, it's by far my least favourite of the Spanish cities I've visited, and tbh one of my least favourite European cities. The three art galleries across from the Retiro park are incredible though.

I went to Madrid with a friend on their suggestion; it had never been on my must-go list. I was surprised at how much I liked it. The galleries, yes, amazing. But I found it so easy to find nice places to eat and drink, found people really friendly and relaxed, loved the numerous quirky indie bookshops, the flea market...

I'm an adopted Londoner of 20+ years and I genuinely think you can't beat it.
Also love Glasgow (used to live there).

Ljubljana is gorgeous, friendly, green, so pretty with the river running through.
Riga has some jaw-dropping architecture and, again, a lovely city river with a park running along both banks.

We just got back from two days in Edinburgh with an 8 and nearly 11 year old. It’s a great city for everyone including tweens! We all loved the National Museum of Scotland and Royal Yacht Britannia. DDs loved watching street performers on the Royal mile. There is great food. Lots of walking tours (underground vaults etc.) To be honest one of the very best things is just to walk around the city- it is so atmospheric!

Unforgettablefire · 20/04/2026 18:36

I’ve a few, none of them in the U.K.
I think I’m going to choose Brasov in Romania.

Lolalady · 20/04/2026 18:59

Paris, Budapest, Vienna, Venice. Would like to visit Berlin.
