Which is you favourite city in the world? I have three
Bristol - for the music scene, creativity and independent spirit
Munich - for the lakes, cycling culture, climate
Marseille - for the beaches, proximity to Provencal towns and landscape, diversity, and the fact it is in France

I love London but am struggling to think of other cities I like, as I don't really go on holiday to go to cities and tend to avoid them.

Pula in Croatia is very nice as it's small and has loads of beaches.

Venice I do love. I could live there, not in the centre but on an island in the lagoon.

Singapore

Oh god no - perpetually hot and stinking humid - I had 3 days there and couldn't wait to leave. It was so oppressive.

Istanbul, I lived there for a couple of years and it got into my system, things have changed unfortunately but it still has .. something. I also love the craziness of Tokyo, Ottawa and Valencia.

Ottawa? Crazy?!

I've been a few times and found it somewhat boring and typically Canadian. Where is the crazy?

IwouldifIcouldreachit · 20/04/2026 04:59

Many wonderful cities but the ones I love most would be London, Paris, St Petersburg and Venice. Honourable mention to Seattle, which is a great city ravaged by drug issues.

katscamel · 20/04/2026 05:07

@mjf981 sorry....I meant the craziness of Tokyo. Ottawa is completely the opposite but loved it. Was stupid o'clock when I posted and quite possible my eyes weren't properly open lol

Yes. I’ve got a friend from Myslenice which isn’t far from there so have been with her there.

MinnieMountain · 20/04/2026 05:43

@littlecreeaturewhat didn't you like about Cologne?

Rome.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 20/04/2026 05:57

Tokyo.

It’s a huge city obviously, and is so many things in one. Easy to leave the neon-tasticness of Shinjuku to beautiful quieter areas. And tuna onigiris from 7eleven are brilliant.

sorryIdidntmeanto · 20/04/2026 06:05

Oh yes. Hard agree with Málaga and Istanbul.
Marseille I lived near when I was younger. I have visited many amazing cities, but my top three picks are ones I know a bit better and could happily live in/live in again.
Really interesting to hear peoples' ideas, especially when they say why.

Also interesting to see Madrid. I love visiting Madrid, but didn't like living there at all. It is a very busy, working city.

OMG, London! 🇬🇧 Having been air crew for foreign airline 10 years, I’ve visited almost every major city in the world. But out of all of them, London was the only place I knew I’d truly miss if I never returned.
Now, I’ve been living here for two years and it has truly exceeded every expectation. It’s an incredible city and my children absolutely love it. Between the rich culture, the safety, and all the beautiful green spaces, it really is the best city in the world. (Even if the driving is a bit of a challenge! 🚗😅) So grateful to call this place home!"

nevernotmaybe · 20/04/2026 06:19

York is up there, for in the UK.

sillyrubberduck · 20/04/2026 06:21
