A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

A few are waking up. But the Greens are largely supported by teenagers and imbeciles. So I’m afraid there are substantial numbers of Green voters whose minds are difficult to influence.

Starmer will regret giving 16 & 17 year olds the vote, I think.

I think it's a lot more than just those groups

But hopefully people are starting to wake up

Looks like Streeting has managed to pull together the MPs to put Starmer out of his misery following the locals.

The feverish jostling and plotting within Labour is magnificent. They’re all like the proverbial bald men fighting over a comb.

I don’t think I’ve seen Labour so helpless and fractious at a time that it’s exactly that attitude that will kill off the party. Not the Foot years, not the Blair years post-Iraq, not Miliband, not Corbyn. They have two options: stick with Starmer and collapse into next to nothing; or replace Starmer and hope for the best, which could well be even worse. They’re truly stuffed.

justasking111 · 01/05/2026 22:13

If I was a secretly disgusted Labour MP I really couldn't get excited about Streeting, Raynor etc. I'd just take the money, pay off my mortgage if I needed to. If I was well off I'd quit labour and go independent.

Diane Abbott did and she's survived

Upstartled · 01/05/2026 22:20

I'm hoping, at least, that the more distracted they are over the next few years the less they can dismantle in the time they have left. Too late for the hereditary peers. That'll be another own goal if Reform get in.

Dear JRM in Golders Green giving a heartfelt speech 🥰😭

I was wondering up thread why they asked him in particular. It was the vigil outside Downing Street.

No objection, just curious. I thought he spoke very well.

The younger man is out of hospital as I understand it. I don't know the condition of the older man beyond - they said he was stable I think.

Upstartled · 02/05/2026 06:54

I think lots of people were there. Toby Young was speaking too. It must have been a broad net of people who were speaking.

Starmer is being raked over the coals for nepotism this morning. Sitting councillors in Bensham Manor were blocked to parachute in Starmer's niece into the safe seat.

Keir Starmer’s niece is council election candidate in safe ward – Inside Croydon https://share.google/RIdb8Co86quxxiuCD

There is some understandable disgruntlement about it.

"Ellie's not very visible in campaign or community."

"Members are disappointed that Ellie is not doing the work," they added. Members were already "missing Enid Mollyneaux", they said.

"Labour members in Bensham Manor have also noted how Sandover has been rarely sighted recently, suggesting that she might have gone on holiday during the short campaign period, though this has not been confirmed".

They accidentally texted all of their plans to Downing St? 🤣🤣🤣

Streeting is their only hope tbf, which means that Labour members won't choose him. They'll go for someone utterly unelectable instead.

Edited

Nice bit of nepotism to add to Starmer's rap sheet.
But its OK when Labour do it. 🙄

That Croydon ward looks safe on paper. It elects three councillors- all three very comfortably Labour last time, but……..they’d be foolish to take anything for granted this time.

If the voters of Croydon get wind of that candidate’s links to Starmer she may as well write her gracious losing speech now.

boys3 · 02/05/2026 09:17

Agree @DenizenOfAisleOfShame plus with three votes the die-hards may well vote for two of the other Labour candidates and then either not use their third available vote or use that for a different party. I hope she does not get elected.

Though for political journeys there is a candidate in one of the Bexley wards who is standing in an election for his tenth different political party. All the way from UKIP to his latest incarnation as a Green Party candidate.

WaffleBomb · 02/05/2026 09:22

More fringe 😄 tbh and over several decades. Included the Monster Raving Looney Party in the early days but looks like they soon saw through him. I don’t believe despite trying now double digit options he’s ever actually been elected. Saw it as a repost on another site and should have c&p’d it at the time to have the full list.

Parsley4321 · 02/05/2026 10:27

@WaffleBomb its understandable 🥰 on waiting for the prison 15 months and waiting I am now a proud owner of a pop up shop in a local town it is absolutely dead like the grave its very sad to see what the current economic state is having on the high street. Good news re the prison I should get a start date 4/5 months hence 😳😳😳😳😳 even the admin lady said the wait was intolerable and no wonder they had no staff 😳

zurigo · 02/05/2026 10:37

I'm finding it really hard to be gleeful about Labour having a terrible night, because Reform won't improve anything and the Greens are the worst option of all. Plus, if we lose useless, dithery, totally lacking in convictions Starmer, who the hell are we going to get in his place? It won't be Burnham, because he isn't an MP and thank god it won't be Rayner, because the HMRC have been dragging their heels on making a final ruling on her tax affairs (let's hope they keep kicking the decision into the long grass!). But anyway, all that aside, it's only the local elections and we already know that this govt is incredibly unpopular. Personally, the only thing that would make me happy is if the entire Labour govt steps down and they make Kemi PM!
