A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I can't imagine a Plaid/Green/Labour coalition. 😬 <shudder>

Perhaps the turnout will be higher this time, now that there's a good chance of removing Labour?

Yes 😬, we'd see the loss of women's rights hand over fist as they try to galvanise their shared ethos by out-"progressing" one another.

Yes, a motivated electorate would be great. And it would be interesting to see how presumed apathetic non-voters could shift the dial. I see Anthony Slaughter is trying to put an acre of distance between ZP and the Welsh Greens.

He is, I wonder why 🤬

Aren't the Green Party of England and Wales the same entity? I know the Scottish Greens are separate.

I googled it.
Yes they are. Officially The Green Party of England and Wales.
You can run but you can't hide Mr. Slaughter.

Thanks. Well, there you go...so he is implicitly tethered to that bellend, bet he's chuffed to bits.

I wonder if the implied turnout will be as low as the forecast 49%?

I think the turnout will be high by local election standards actually. People are not usually pretty apathetic about local elections unless they have a real bee in their bonnet about something and would dearly love a general election to give the current incumbents of N0. 10 a good kicking. In the absence of a GE they'll vent their spleen in the locals instead.

SpaceRaccoon · 01/05/2026 16:32

We're also rapidly approaching the Scottish elections. Thanks to Labour's extended crash-out, the SNP looks set to do very well, which is also extremely unfortunate.

I couldn't find any decent polling for Scotland. What's the mood up there?
The SNP must feel like all their birthdays have come at once with this car crash of a Labour govt in Westminster.

Yeh that’s not good either.

Starmer had a tough time in Golders Green.

implies SNP falling short of a majority. More SNP+Green coalition madness to come?

Thank you.

Labour doing better than I expected in Scotland.

There’s an anonymous Labour voice being quoted quite widely in the media setting the trigger level for Labour panic at losses of 1,500+ council seats. I think that’s rubbish. Labour MPs will shit themselves and move against Starmer at losses of 1,000 or more, together with failure in Scotland and the loss of Wales.

Since pretty clearly Labour will go down in Scotland and Wales…If in England losses are 1,000 he’ll get into a messy fight and will be out in months. If losses hit 1,500 he’s out in days. If they lose 1,800 it’s “taxi for Mr Starmer!” on the night.

I almost hope he does just well enough to cling on for a protracted civil war in Labour.

Let’s be honest. If Labour lose 1,500+ council seats, Starmer still won’t resign. He isn’t that graceful.

They'll have to crowbar him out of No. 11 while he clings on to his gifted wardrobe.

UKs threat level has just been increased to severe.

A friend sent me a link to a rather marvellous website where you can read up on how safe or unsafe a country is to visit (she’s Canadian but it is from the perspective of people in the US I think). It’s interesting to see how people in other countries see your own.

Agree. And that’s a recipe for disaster for Labour. A bloody fight that exposes the divisions and factions. It could take out a few Labour ‘big beasts’ (or as they’re known these days ‘laughably unimpressive Labour mini-beasts’) along the way.

Cling on Sir Keir! Bolt that door and stick your fingers in your ears. Your country needs you. In fact the whole world needs someone of your calibre and standing. Oh yes.

SpaceRaccoon · 01/05/2026 17:48

I must have believed a poll on reddit or something! Thanks for the updated Scottish info.
The thought of another SNP/Green coalition is truly horrifying.

Thank you.

Labour doing better than I expected in Scotland.

Though still reduced by half compared to their GE vote percentage in Scotland. I’d imagine a lot of the current percentage is through gritted teeth and based on the SNPs appalling record. I know the conservatives have a lot of work to start regaining trust and votes in Scotland, but did think the Lib Dems might poll a bit higher and erode more of both the Labour and SNP voting intention.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/05/2026 19:08

It's really tone deaf for her to talk about this.

EasternStandard · 01/05/2026 19:32

The AR one on here is like the last hurrah from Labour before the locals. Looks like those threads before everyone went off Starmer and co.

SapphireCasino · 01/05/2026 19:34

Thank you to those who answered about AR

I had a lovely evening walk. Needed to force myself not to scroll!

Am I being too optimistic or are people here starting to realise what the problem is with the Greens?

I've just been reading the ZP thread. The % vote is encouraging. If you haven't seem it, find Matt's cartoon for tomorrow. It's most amusing!

I saw that very good.

I think he’s shown he’s flaky and MR was right to pull him up on it. I’m not sure votes will change much at this point but maybe they will.

A few are waking up. But the Greens are largely supported by teenagers and imbeciles. So I’m afraid there are substantial numbers of Green voters whose minds are difficult to influence.
