A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

They really do want to make everyone who isn't one of the 'underprivileged elite' suffer. All the better if they can force us to watch the more deserving enjoy the things we've paid for, instead of us. Very puritanical.

Does anyone remember the puritanical relatives in Blackadder? See if you can spot the difference!

The Telegraph are breaking some pretty surprising stories just now.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/ceef1f5d34a51380

More than 600,000 households received more in benefits last year than the average worker’s full time salary.

10 million individuals are on working age benefits - and about 1/3 of those 10 million people are in work, as people on here keep telling us, which will reduce their benefits / give them even more of a household income. And presumably some of those 10 million are in a household together.

600k households recieving so much: out of 10 million individuals (couldn't see number of households). Can't be less than 10% of workless households, and could be as much as 20%.

More than the average for full-time workers!

.The UK is doomed.

Wow! That graph is incendiary. I was surprised at the data breakdown by ethnicity. The comments section was…robust.

A lot of comments to simply not pay noncitizens. It makes sense on the face of it to do just that, but I am not sure that can be practically done. What happens when these people are on the streets? Send them home? Will their home countries accept them? What about their children born in the UK?

I think the solution is to strengthen caps on total benefits, remove exceptions for disability, put the child cap back on, and cap how much extra UC you get for living in expensive locations.

People who support themselves through earned income have to make choices about how many children to have and where to live (even if it means being further from family support). It's a travesty that those on benefits don't, and so are able to make choices that the people funding them can't afford for themselves.

strawberrybubblegum · 04/05/2026 09:15

Regarding the ethnic breakdown, we do also need to start speaking about the burden placed on the UK by the far higher prevalence of disabilities resulting from cosanguinity.

It has a correlation with cultural practices, and so it's politely ignored.

That's not OK.

I had the same thought…but as you point out, I felt churlish to bring up cousin marriage.

I think all your caps make sense, especially not dormitorying the economically inactive in expensive locations.

I do wonder if many disabilities create extra expenses?

strawberrybubblegum · 04/05/2026 09:30

It would definitely be interesting to get further information on it. It's verboten to even ask the question though, and you can be sure the numbers aren't being gathered.

It's so typical of the Left: virtue signal excessive cultural empathy, whilst ignoring the very real consequences, both economic and in human suffering. These disabities could be vastly reduced by outlawing cousin marriage.

It’s an odd threat that Starmer’s outriders are making. They seem to be saying, on his behalf, “if you don’t back Starmer, the next Labour PM will be so bad that a GE will be irresistible”.

So all of his colleagues are catastrophically useless?

Good to know, Sir Keir. I bet your cabinet and the party are overjoyed with you for this.

And anyway, since Starmer is himself demonstrably fucking useless, what has the party got to lose by trying another hopeless incompetent?

WaffleBomb · 04/05/2026 10:46

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 04/05/2026 08:05

They are probably working on plans to have a two tier pricing and booking system.

if you are working you pay extra and an additional tax to subside those who aren’t.

UC gets you £1 flights and priority boarding.

So true 👏

🫣
Ed Miliband wants to be “kingmaker” to a potential Andy Burnham leadership bid in return for being offered the post of chancellor in his government, allies of the energy secretary have said.

The lefties are all in a tizz about Reform's announcement that they will only build migrant detention centres in Green voting areas.
Let me guess, they don't have space.
NIMBYs 😂😂

Tbf not just the lefties. Even Lowe thinks it is a load of old gimmicky rubbish. Yusuf is a bit dim, bless him.

Of course it's gimmicky rubbish.
But I do find it amusing how certain people react to the idea of migrants on their own doorstep.

This is the trouble with the asylum/boats debate. Nobody can solve it, in the sense that there’s a 100% or even better than 50% answer. The only party that had any success in deterring boats was the Tories. But Labour scrapped the Rwanda plan. And my, how they’ve paid for that in votes.

Reform aren’t going to solve it any more than hapless Labour has done.

I know you probably can't link bcs of TAAT etc, but is there a thread on it @WaffleBomb ?

Might be gimmicky rubbish but it’s quite cunning and will be interesting to see the Green response - are those voters willing to put their money where their mouth is. We shall see.

It’ll be the same as the barracks won’t it? We don’t want barracks here, others can though.

Yes exactly.
I think there was a Green councillor campaigning against a barracks in her constituency being used for migrants iirc. Funny that.
