A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Checking in!

Afternoon! What a beautiful day it is! ☀️

I've given what's left of our lawn its first mow of the year. It needs re-seeding in places thanks to winter Labrador zoomies (you can see his circular track!), but it looks loads better after a trim!

😂😂 At the labrador zoomie track. Love it.
We gave up and fitted fake grass a few years ago. I have loads of other plants and trees in the garden for the wildlife, so I feel less guilty.

I've been outside all day too. Done loads of cleaning and tidying, greenhouse sorted and a trip to the garden centre. Jet washing is my favourite thing - so satisfying. 😁

I'm scared of using the jet wash now we're on a water meter! 😬 We're having some new paving laid soon, and the guys have said they'll clean the existing slabs as well. That may be the only time they get done until we sell, whenever that may be! 🤣

I'm not quite ready for fake grass. Maybe after another winter I will be! 😩

Thanks Nuthatch.

Amazing thank you @TheNuthatch

DancingFerret · 21/03/2026 17:23

Thank you, @TheNuthatch.

Did anyone else listen to Peter Hitchens on Any Questions today? He talked so much sense about the war in Iran, IMO. He also allowed himself a moment of schadenfreude, reminding everyone that back in 2024 he warned about the folly of voting for Labour and KS in particular, although I have a feeling even he is shocked at how diabolical they're been so far.

Any bets on rioting on the streets in April when their tax increases and batsh1t employment laws come in?

Just dropping in with a NC. This week at my work, a self proclaimed socialist handed in her resignation. She is VERY vocal that “the rich” should pay more, wealth should be distributed, taxes for higher earners should be increased etc etc. It is her entire persona. And yet, she has handed in her notice to go freelance so she can “pay less tax” 😱
When I questioned that, she was askance! Apparently she “only” earns £100k per year, so she’s entitled to minimise her taxes? 🤯🤯🤯🤯

Peter Hitchens was very vocal and has proved to be completely right what a mess this all is. Just trying to navigate the grad market it is brutal out there I’m on radio hp there has been two adverts this week one for a mentoring programme one for a intro into private banking intern week both pulled after a few hours because the demand is insane.

She's going to be very pissed off at the hoops and frequency of payments HMRC are going to put her through. I mutter at our accountants bills.

DH has poured me a large G&T. I'M awaiting a takeaway from our favourite Chinese. After the week I've had major surgery on Monday night and two days of low BP I was despondent at being allowed back home. But I'm back home battered but grateful. Don't like these blood thinnnners for five weeks mind 😭

This is so sad and concerning.

Parsley4321 · 21/03/2026 18:18

I’m tentatively looking at two shops next week the area is full of indies and buoyant - rent is cheap ish no rates I’m so on the fence I’m going to ask for a break clause after 1 year see how it goes I need a year round income as guess what the pre employment checks have still not come back even after two more items asked for have been submitted this CS is dreadful

Parsley4321 · 21/03/2026 18:20

@EasternStandard it surely is and the insane thing is I’m seriously considering the mentoring programme for young Parsley I’ll see how things work out next few months

Good luck with the shops. I hope it works out for you.
Unbelievable that you're still going through those employment checks, wtaf. Confused
I remember when you applied, must be a year or so ago now.

Checking in. Thank you for the new thread @TheNuthatch and thanks to all on this thread. You help keep me sane and I hope you don't mind me joining.

Parsley4321 · 21/03/2026 19:22

@TheNuthatch yes one year of chasing incompetence and resubmitting stuff gas lighting and everything part of me wants a permanent job with pension but part of me is thinking it’ll drive me mad better to stay self employed and expand x
