Yet here you are, speculating

And you’re not?

The head of the school also complained that the investigation was badly handled.

Well of course she needs to be seen to be on the parents' side. I can't imagine a headteacher is particularly au fait with police investigations in their day to day life.

lovealieinortwo · 14/04/2026 21:29

likelysuspect · 14/04/2026 21:13

What is the poor handling exactly?

The way I see it, traumatised and grieving parents who are extremely rich themselves have unfortunatley forced the police to keep going at something that seems to have no legs.

So you think the IOPC are just investigating officers for no reason?

Am I missing something? What do you all think she's guilty of? Lying to get away with deliberately driving in to a school garden to kill children? Why would she do that?

I know nothing, but she may have fallen asleep at the wheel or been texting on her phone and is saying had a fit in order not to lose her licence and go to prison if she is found guilty of death by dangerous driving.

The chap who drove off the embankment and caused the Selby rail crash said he swerved to avoid a pigeon. (I believe it was found he fell asleep at the wheel). The prosecution brought in an ornithologist to testify that pigeons don't generally fly at 6am on foggy mornings in February. So people plainly do try and avoid the consequences. Even if they didn't deliberately cause the incident.

It's incredibly naive to think that having money and influence, being well connected couldn't possibly influence a police investigation. Of course it can, and that's probably why the police are being investigated now.

@CondbottleOh keep up.
It's incredibly naïve of you to think a banker in Wimbledon has that far a reach...
Honestly, the references to wealth and 'dark forces' are really rather ridiculous and minimise this tragedy IMO

The IOPC are involved for accusations of racism - a cursory Google is your friend

I think a lot of public bodies open things to show they are doing something so they cant be accused of not double checking if everything was done right if they keep getting complaints (which I think they have from these parents)

I also think a lot of reviews and investigations contain a lot of self flagellation for public bodies/organisations because its not politically correct to sometimes tell the public things they dont want to hear.

Perhaps the investigation into these police will find out they're all friends of hers, she was completely leathered and they covered it up. Is that likely?

Why would you lie as opposed to admit human error may have resulted in the death of two children? You can’t think why anyone would do this?

Photo of Claire Freemantle in this article. Amazing how even the UK news articles which got pictures of her published suddenly seemed to disappear. Presumably as the site above is under a different jurisdiction (Argentina), her lawyers had less reach.

Thank you. Very interesting.

He's not just a banker though. Whatever; something untoward has happened with the investigation, what do you think it was if it wasn't that people were treated differently according to their level of influence?

not quite…

“The watchdog said its inquiry would look at "allegations that Met officers provided false and misleading information to those affected and whether the officers' treatment of those affected was influenced by their race".
It would also cover the standard of the investigation, including its management and direction, the conduct of the investigation team, and their engagement with the victims, it said.”

But what human error could see you crash through a wall a playing field and a children’s party without attempting to brake?

Condbottle · 14/04/2026 21:38

Fwiw I once worked for a fairly senior but nothing spectacular banker who was very proud of the fact that a call to the Chief Constable, his mate from The Masons, had got him off a speeding ticket.

It was a long time ago and we'd all like to think times have changed, but we know really that connections and influence are still be used this way, if slightly differently.

I mean, Jimmy Saville was never investigated because of his connections. There are literally hundreds of examples, and this banker may not have been high profile personally but he will know all the right people.

lovealieinortwo · 14/04/2026 21:40

I think it’s more likely they will find something that the Police did wrong, not the first time it’s happened.

Are there a lot of inquiries that show an inquiry was unnecessary?

It’s not like we have had a recent inquiry that showed mistakes by public services…

What do you mean "he's not just a banker though"

What is 'untoward'? Is it the fact that the CPS haven't prosecuted, or the process of the investigation?

Do you have a bent and corrupt contact insider at IOPC?

Honestly, this is bordering on ghoulish...

People do panic and accelerate instead of braking, it’s a thing.

There's something wrong or they wouldn't be investigating 11 police officers, including a very senior one.

If allegations are made, an inquiry or investigation has to take place, there isnt any option so of course there will be a need, thats how it works

If you;re talking about the AR Serious Case Review there is always a review and Ive already posted on several threads about that, that I think there are a lot of misguided assumptions in that review and essentially is easier to lie to the public about 'failings' rather than tell the public what they dont want to hear but I wont derail this thread with it.

I understand how it works.

I was simply questioning your assertion that they were pointless and never uncovered failings and mistakes.
