I felt humiliated today

At work today my manager brought us some treats in for Easter, I had a biscuit and was eating it on the shop floor, she actually told me off I felt like a naughty school girl, she told me to hide it, I felt so humiliated, this isn’t the first time she’s done things like this, is she bullying me?

Really unprofessional to be eating in a shop with customers around. Even if they’re “busy and wouldn’t notice”. Most people just wouldn’t do that surely. Eating in the staff room only. It’s not bullying.

It took 2 seconds to eat, it wasn’t a burger and fries or anything

I can understand if I was working on the till, but I wasn’t

Seriously? You don't eat on the shop floor where there are customers full stop, that's not hard to understand is it?

TheDenimPoet · 04/04/2026 21:43

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 21:35

It was a biscuit

Oh, so is that not eating, then?

hypnovic · 04/04/2026 21:41

This incident is 100% about the biscuit.
Was everyone else eating theirs and only you told not to?
I'm afraid you broke the rules and then act like you are being singled out for jo reason. Perhaps this is why you feel bullied. if you often ignore the rules and seem put out at being corrected she maybe is a little sharper with you!!

I don’t ignore rules, I didn’t realise eating one small biscuit would be such a crime, she’s always having a go at me or making digs anyway

It seems to be in this instance🤷
Ex retail worker it's just something that didn't happen.

Pebbles16 · 04/04/2026 21:44

Quite honestly, I do not understand how you fail to see how unprofessional this is

ilovepixie · 04/04/2026 21:44

I’ve worked in shops all my life and I’ve never been allowed to eat on the shop floor.
Was there anyone else eating on the shop floor?

How come customers come in with food and drinks then when they’re not supposed to?

Your attitude here makes it clear as to maybe why she wouldn't like you.

Just take it on the chin and don't do it again 🤷‍♀️.

PullyDog · 04/04/2026 21:45

Where did you get the biscuit from?

She didn't leave them on the shop floor, i assume?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 04/04/2026 21:45

Tbh I wouldn’t expect anyone on the shop floor to be eating. I did retail many years ago and it was common sense.

Surely it's just common sense? @pinenuts75 you must surely realise that just isn't acceptable behaviour?

You come across as a petulant teen..it's not fair.

mismomary · 04/04/2026 21:46

I’ve never seen a retail worker eating in the shop.

DarmokAndJaladAtTenagra · 04/04/2026 21:46

Maybe your boss doesn't like you because you think rules don't apply to you so consequently you are hard to manage.

I recently won colleague of the month I won a gift voucher, she made me feel small saying “oh we are just waiting for you to leave so we don’t have to give it to you’

Your manager was probably surprised to have to tell you

It's bad manners for them to do it, yes

But you are working there. It's more than bad manners for you to do it.

Is this your first job and you're 16 or something? Never been properly trained?

C’mon, nothing in OPs responses indicates she’s crazy difficult to manage.

WallaceinAnderland · 04/04/2026 21:48

You're at work, surely you know you can't eat on the shop floor. No she wasn't bullying, she was reprimanding you.

Put the spade down and stop digging that hole, it matters not what the item of food was, that you weren't on the till, it took 2 seconds or any other excuse you are making, eating on the shop floor where customers are is not allowed and is wholly unprofessional. Just accept you were wrong, don't try and justify it, and don't do it again.
