I felt humiliated today

At work today my manager brought us some treats in for Easter, I had a biscuit and was eating it on the shop floor, she actually told me off I felt like a naughty school girl, she told me to hide it, I felt so humiliated, this isn’t the first time she’s done things like this, is she bullying me?

You sound young. I've had some unpleasant bosses but learnt to ignore. You can't change jobs every time you encounter them these days

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 04/04/2026 21:52

She probably doesn’t like your attitude or the fact that you can’t understand why you shouldn’t be troughing biscuits on the shop floor

What? ‘Troughing?’

Did she tell you off on the shop floor? Or pull you out the back? Because to tell you off in front of other staff or customers is a big no-no. And yes, it's belittling.

Kitjo · 04/04/2026 22:15

It’s basic - it’s common sense…. Surely don’t need to be ‘told’ it’s not the right thing to do. I’m sure you don’t get ‘told’ not to take your shoes off and walk around in bare feet - you kind of just know! It’s not about her liking you it’s about your poor judgement. She shouldn’t be put in a position to have to tell you!

Theirs signs on the door no food and drink allowed, if they ignore surely I can too.

I can't believe I just read that.

@pinenuts75 Your responses are what I would expect from a 5 year old 🤷‍♀️

Piggy eating.. a trough.
Think cookie monster :-)

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 22:17

I’ll just go away then and do everyone a favour, including my manager she would be very pleased if I disappeared

Just leave. If she really is picking on you, she's not going to change.

Are you autistic?

What!?? Like that’s an excuse?

Told me off on the shop floor

Doesn't look very professional to be honest, munching on a biscuit on the shop floor.

handsdownthebest · 04/04/2026 22:18

You were unreasonable to eat on the shop floor. Your manager was correct in telling you off. It is unprofessional. That's why there are staff rooms.

hypnovic · 04/04/2026 22:18

There is no way this thread is real. You asked. We all told you the same thing but you still think its the manager at fault..this has to be a piss take

Why should I let her win though?

I had something similar happen to me.

My career is in a different sector but during Covid, when my sector was closed, worked for Co-op. I got "training" except some things were left out. I got the vibe straight away that the woman training me didnt like me, and was very pissed off when I wouldnt sign off on certain parts of the training she "didnt have time to train [you] on". So when she went off on one at me for breaking a rule I didnt know existed and my manager pulled me me up on it, it was clear that I had never been told that it was a rule. I resigned when it suited me and the woman concerned went off on stress related sick leave after the fifth official grievance was levelled.

Marysnail · 04/04/2026 22:19

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 22:07

Doesn’t matter, they shouldn’t break rules either

true but then its like if one collegue is messing about it does not mean another collegue can break the rules trying to get the other collegue to do their job

Would your sense of injustice be assuaged if you visited your place of work on your day off and ate a packet of biscuits while you were shopping?

Marysnail · 04/04/2026 22:20

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 22:19

Why should I let her win though?

then dont and be a good worker ?

I used to work retail and hide my crisps in my pocket, be smarter! You obviously don’t eat on the shop floor 🙄

TheGander · 04/04/2026 22:21

Come to think of it, I never see staff eating in shops. That’s a big clue.

DarmokAndJaladAtTenagra · 04/04/2026 22:21

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 22:19

Why should I let her win though?

Challenge her to a bake off competition. Don't let her win

Happyjoe · 04/04/2026 22:21

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 22:18

Told me off on the shop floor

Well, she shouldn't. And I would tell her or someone higher than that it's really unprofessional. She was within her rights to ask you not to eat out on the shop floor but not to belittle you in front of others.

I believe you when you say she probably doesn't like you.
