I felt humiliated today

At work today my manager brought us some treats in for Easter, I had a biscuit and was eating it on the shop floor, she actually told me off I felt like a naughty school girl, she told me to hide it, I felt so humiliated, this isn’t the first time she’s done things like this, is she bullying me?

If you don't mind being fired, then sure.

I'm not sure how you don't understand the difference between being a customer and an employee.

Why does been a customer give them the right to break rules?

“The customer is always right”

How come customers come in with food and drinks then when they’re not supposed to?

are you being deliberately obtuse @pinenuts75?😀

For eating a biscuit?

i think its more the principle rather than the item of food

It doesn't "give them the right to break rules". They're not being paid a wage by the business though.

Theirs signs on the door no food and drink allowed, if they ignore surely I can too.

They are paying for things in the shop. You are being paid to be there.

WatermelonSalad1 · 04/04/2026 22:07

OMG are you drunk?

Hopefully you weren't drunk on the shop floor

Strawberrydelight78 · 04/04/2026 22:07

As a customer I wouldn't go into a shop with food or a drink. I would expect staff not to on the shop floor as well.

Doesn’t matter, they shouldn’t break rules either

They don’t work there! I used to work in retail and wouldn’t have eaten on the shop floor. It’s not professional

As an employee, anyone could ask you a question at any time. A mouthful of biscuit isn’t going to look professional, is it? Customers don’t sign legally binding contracts regarding their behaviour or get paid for fulfilling the terms of said contract.

WallaceinAnderland · 04/04/2026 22:08

OP you said that you didn't know there was a rule about no eating on the shop floor and that you don't break rules.

But now you say 'Theirs signs on the door no food and drink allowed'

So you did in fact know that there was a rule and you did break it.

Maybe this is why your manager is not impressed with your behaviour and obvious attitude problem.

Wow you are so thick skinned I would imagine you are a nightmare at work. Determined to victimise yourself and take zero responsibility for your actions. Your attitude is terrible!

She's not bullying you. She's just expecting you to act like an adult and know when to act appropriately, which doesn't include munching biscuits where there are customers present.

Many shop floor managers are gruff in manner. I learned that at 18 when I had my first weekend shop job.

Notmyreality · 04/04/2026 22:14

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 22:10

What because I don’t drink?

No, because of the way you responded to that and every one of your other responses on this thread.

Trusttheawesome · 04/04/2026 22:14

You don’t eat on the shop floor when you are staff. It is unprofessional and no store ever allows that. You don’t eat on the shop floor.

Customers are not working. Customers can eat and drink all they like in a shop, unless they’ve been asked not to or there are signs up.

Do you honestly not understand the difference between a customer and a staff member eating on the shop floor?

When treats are brought in, you eat on your break in the staff room.

Your behaviour and attitude on this thread is really weird.
