I felt humiliated today

At work today my manager brought us some treats in for Easter, I had a biscuit and was eating it on the shop floor, she actually told me off I felt like a naughty school girl, she told me to hide it, I felt so humiliated, this isn’t the first time she’s done things like this, is she bullying me?

Brang?

Colloquialism! (Light hearted)

I’m not sure why though, I work hard I believe, just lately she’s swapped my role, and says it’s working better, so I just don’t get it as far as I know she’s happy with my work, but maybe she just doesn’t like me for whatever reason.

Perhaps you should look carefully at your own behaviour. If you think that eating a biscuit, that the manager has provided, on the shop floor is appropriate, it makes me wonder what else you think.is acceptable, which most people would consider unprofessional in your role.

Peggyplunkett · 05/04/2026 09:47

pinenuts75 · 04/04/2026 21:38

I don’t really think it’s about the biscuit, to be honest I’m becoming very close to asking her outright if she actually likes me and wants me working there.

Please don’t, you sound like you are just picking a fight.
Just do your job and avoid unnecessary drama.
Eating biscuits on the shop floor is not professional behaviour and surely you know that. Eat privately.

Walkaround · 05/04/2026 09:48

@pinenuts75 - it was a very bad idea to ask for advice from people in respect of an incident where you were clearly in the wrong, your manager clearly in the right, and she had brought treats in for everyone, thereby only singling you out when you behaved badly. She may well not like you, but your comments in this thread are irritating and give the impression you can’t take criticism even when it is deserved. If you wanted sympathy and helpful advice, you shouldn’t have started a thread about how you were in the wrong in a public place and felt humiliated for rightfully being brought up on it, you should have led with an example where she did something wrong and unkind, rather than hiding that example in the middle of your aggravating self-justifications.

All this over a fucking biscuit

No all of this is due to your attitude which btw sucks.

You come across as self centred, arrogant, aggressive and entitled and yes I would say that to your face.

I can full understand why your manager dislikes you because atleast in your posts on here as a nightmare employee.

You keep going on about having won employee of the month but dont seem to understand that because the competition is a popularity contest amongst the junior staff it means nothing and tge fact that you've been moved to a different manager means that you are being managed out. Someone higher up has decided that you're not suitable for the business hence the move and you being picked up on everything, a record will be being kept of every rule your breaking and how you react to being reprimanded, until they have enough minor infractions to merit sacking you or you quit.
May I kindly suggest that in your next job you wind your neck in, drop the attitude and follow the rules or learn to accept that you will be fired from it too.

Because I was broken. Not sleeping. Self harming. Suicidal

Hardly in a position to job hunt.

Perhaps should've got out before got to that level.
Anyway, glad you're out of it now.

daisychain01 · 05/04/2026 10:06

@pinenuts75 first impression from your posts, you say you're being treated like a child, but your behaviour is very immature. You've started a thread about being a retail worker and eating on the shop floor, and you just seem to want to argue every point people are making. Try being receptive to what people are saying,

its a small trivial detail, yet you're making it into something bigger than it should be. Eating at work, even Easter treats, should be done at appropriate times. The fact your Manager didn't tell you all "here are some Easter treats, but don't eat them when you're working, eat them when you're on a break" shows they trust you and didn't feel the need to spell it out as if you were a child.

youve said they don't like you, well maybe they're fed up of you arguing the toss over every little thing.

Ovaryinatwist · 05/04/2026 10:15

Of course you shouldn't be eating on the shop floor. She is correct to tell you. It's very unprofessional. Of course customers don't have to be professional, they aren't at work, you are serving them!

When you are doing something wrong, and someone pulls you up on it, then it is normal to feel a little of guilt, shame or embarrassment.

Don't ask her if she likes you, it's her job to make sure you are behaving in work! I don't think that is very professional on your part either. Just focus on doing your job.

I haven’t been moved to a different manager?? And I never break rules apart from this one.

I admire your tenacity OP.

More like a dog with a bone, than a woman with a biscuit.

pinenuts75 · 05/04/2026 10:52

Just to clarify to everyone who doesn’t understand, I made a mistake yesterday ate a biscuit on the shop floor which I have said time and time again it was wrong I hold my hands up, but a large proportion of people on here are not understanding or accepting that.
I never break rules, get told time and time again I’m a good employee, that’s why I have swapped roles with someone else as they were struggling to do the job, now it’s running better, not my words btw.
I don’t know what else I can say really, maybe my boss doesn’t like me for reasons I may never find out, but I know I go to work everyday do my best, apart from yesterday where I made one small mistake, to those that feel I’m adding bits on or making things up I’m really not, buts it’s up to to you I guess whether to believe me.

OP posts:
pinenuts75 · 05/04/2026 10:55

Oh and just to add I never argued with her, I just felt embarrassed really.

I think you have to understand why you got reactions that you did. You came across dismissive and to start you didn’t want to admit that eating a biscuit was a wrong thing to do. You dug your heels in talking about customers breaking rules. This is why you looked like you could be a troublemaker at work. I really want to know how old you are?

Walkaround · 05/04/2026 11:34

Tbh, it sounds like the manager gives credit when credit is due - she has told you that your recent role change worked well - and she tells you off when you deserve it. That she may not like you is understandable, as you don’t come across at all well on this thread, but that’s largely irrelevant if she is, as it appears, nevertheless treating you fairly in a business as opposed to personal context.

ThemUnsYouseUns · 05/04/2026 12:32

OP, I’m really sorry you feel you’re being bullied at work. Is there someone else, maybe a colleague or another manager you get on well with, you could chat to about the issues you have? Maybe they could advise or bring some outside perspective?

It’s great that you got a certificate recognising your hard work! Smile I’ve worked in retail and I understand how difficult it can be to get that recognition.

The only thing I would say (and I mean this constructively!) is that you seemed to struggle initially to take responsibility for your knowingly breaking the rule. This is why you’ve had such a hard time on this thread. I know it can feel unfair but it’s irrelevant if customers and colleagues are breaking the rules, and it’s even irrelevant if your boss likes you are not. If you know there’s a rule, take responsibility by keeping it.

You’ve admitted you did the wrong thing eating the biscuit at the shop floor. Forget about this incident and please do find someone you trust to talk through your other concerns about your manager. Good luck!

So are you saying I shouldn’t have received colleague of the month, just so customers can break rules? Winning colleague of the month has nothing to do with allowing customers to break rules.

Why are you concentrating on customers breaking rules? They aren’t the ones being employed by the shop.

It doesn’t matter there’s signs outside the shop saying no food or drinks allowed, doesn’t mean they can do what they want just because their customers, we get fed up of customers leaving their rubbish on shelves because they can’t be bothered to use bins, and yes I shouldn’t have eaten a biscuit either.

But what is ‘colleague of the month’ based on? A popular vote by all staff? Management choosing?
