“Whether you’re a military analyst or a political analyst, whether you’re in the Democratic or Republican party, there’s a reality here. Donald Trump has met the moment of truth. The kind of fictional life that he’s led and evoked over the last four or five decades has now been unmasked as a deadly drama. It’s going to cost the lives of so many people. It’s going to devastate the US economy and the regional economy. It’s going to set back America and its standing in the world. It’s a horrific moment.”
Larry Jacobs, director of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota.

Blank Bingo card attached. Anyone want to suggest what to add, I can do :-)

White House Ballroom. Definitely will be mentioned, he must be incandescent!

That's my top guess. ✅️

I don't know how long this has been the case, but lately threads are being dominated by posters wanting a gotcha moment. When you point out they are wrong, the whataboutry or something similar starts. I hate it when they start picking on one poster and then want to jump in to support that poster.
That 'tree-related' one is particularly bad and I'm not convinced is genuine, just wants to push his/her opinions on everyone.
I've also directed one clear-headed poster to this thread. Hope they join us.

Yes. That poster has just quoted from a pukka document, but somehow managed to stop the cursor short so the clip pasted managed to miss out the next sentence which actually negated the point the poster was trying to insinuate

No link to the source of the quote. When challenged... "will post link later".

Bad faith debate. Dishonest really. Misrepresentation of statements made by cherry picking specific lines.

Got that :-)

I have populated it a bit so keep them coming.

@SerendipityJane I use Libreoffice for this stuff. German I believe, so I am onboard with the minimal use of US MS.

It's been a bugbear of mine that the FOSS community (who are equally as wedded to shibboleths as MS) have studiously ignored the single biggest chance to replace Windows with something that works. And that is the total failure to realise that 80% of "Windows" users really just use Office. And from them most see Outlook as part of the furniture. And Outlook is the one app that FOSS has worked very hard to ignore.

I think Trump has already effectively pulled out of NATO - just hasn’t had his theatrical moment on camera doing it.

I’d disagree, at the moment at least there is still ambiguity. It’s small comfort but just might give Putin pause for thought. If Trump formally withdraws then we lose even that small thing.

TirednessOnToast · 01/04/2026 10:39

At the risk of sounding like Colin-from-Portsmouth 'why, why, why are we sending KingPrinceCharles to pay obeisance to the rapist/murderous/wrecker in rhe White House? KPC needs a last minute 'too ill' note.

So many questions -

Why send all the ships if they are just going to turn around and go home? Trump is impulsive, but did he really send all those troops to the Gulf to do nothing?

Also, we are hearing a lot from Trump and his government about America's (former?) NATO allies but is Trump about to trash relations with all the Gulf states?

If Trump retreats it seems as though China has an opportunity to swoop in and be the reliable partner.

China must be celebrating. They are well on their way to being the world’s leading power and they’ve just had to sit back and watch Trump destroy America’s position.

In law, it has to be a senate decision. However it is obvious to the rest of the world that the US is no longer bound by the rule of law.

If I worked in compliance I would add that as a risk in any contract negotiations. That would bump the price up.

I find libreoffice great for what I do. Thunderbird for email. My main software is French. I am limited in what I can get/find. Github is sometimes fully blocked, always partially.

ALL: populated bingo. First draft attached. Changes eagerly accepted. Happy to do a 2nd one.

For me no sick note excuse give him the unabated truth.
His constant snipes at the UK
The derision of our armed forces particularly the Afghan war comments that our forces were far from the front line etc.

TiredCatLady · 01/04/2026 10:58

@RedTagAlan it needs something about a Moon base and something about Cuba.

CaveMum · 01/04/2026 11:08

TRIP an interesting listen this morning. RS out in the US teaching at Yale and was pretty shocked by the attitude a lot of those he has spoken to (students, academics, military, etc) are taking towards the war in Iran. They just don’t seem to understand the global economic implications of what is going on - gas prices have gone up a bit, but nowhere near as much as in Europe and Asia.

It seems there is a lot of “Meh, not my problem” happening, which is very disappointing.

ScienceDragon · 01/04/2026 11:09

I don't think one bingo card is big enough anymore. No room for "Barack Hussein Obama" or "Newscum". The new presidential library might also pop up.

This is exactly what I noticed during the Brexit campaigns.

Packs of dishonest posters gathering on a thread and working together to "mob" anyone who argued rationally against them or produced evidence to contradict them. The mobbers were loud and prolific – very much a case of "quantity is a "quality" (Ukraine threadsters will understand). They were also slippery when challenged. And as we said earlier, once there was too much evidence against their claims on one thread, they would just oil off and start a near identical one.

This behaviour continued long after the referendum and covered various other voting periods (inc US), then I noticed it seemed to die down a little.

I don't remember the details, but at the time I was reading stuff by various bot-watching set-ups, and it was possible to divine the priorities of the Kremlin at any given time by watching it pull bot resources off one campaign to divert to another.

Of course many more actors than Russia now run bot-farms, paid or volunteer, so it's not easy to know who might be the actor behind any particular set of co-ordinated posting.

That these lot are martians could explain a bit of the craziness, because they definitively sound like from another planet!
I thought the "plan", yesterday, was to bomb Iran till they agree to a deal. I like more the I am leaving in two weeks, or else "plan". It sounds less violent and maybe we do not have to see Hegseth unsettling grin on another press conference.

Plan A was regime change.
Plan B was maybe not that but we’ll deplete their missiles
Plan C maybe we’ll just reopen the Strait that was open until we started plan A
Plan D is bit difficult might just leave in 2 weeks without opening it.

At this point in 2 weeks the US will be paying reparations to the regime in Iran and sanctioning themselves.

TirednessOnToast · 01/04/2026 11:26

@TheVeloursImgonnaChangeNsoul yes, rhe absolute disrespect to our armed forces, both in recent and previous conflicts. KS is doing a good job (though he seems to be allowing us to be drawn in further now). We need to move closer to Europe & break all links we can to the US (certainly in its current administration but also as it is garnering a huge amount of distrust worldwide (bombing primary schools) which we do not want to be associated with.
Current thinking seems to be that KPC3 will weird 'software power' with Trump.
'weird soft power' even, tho my typo may be more appropriate?
I think that it's like an abusive relationship. Trump will take it as weakness & behave even worse towards the UK.

Justdancevance · 01/04/2026 11:49

Iran could allow Yuan contracted oil through the strait - without a single bullet being fired. All of Europe would happily buy that and the US stranglehold on world reserves would pass.

Sub optimal, but entirely practical. Maybe sell dollars to buy yuan ?

Justdancevance · 01/04/2026 11:58

The US benefits from cheap dollars as all oil sales are contracted in dollars so countries need to hold them in their reserves.

if everyone swapped to yuan then countries no longer need dollars, which would mean that US borrowing becomes more expensive for the US government and companies.
