“Whether you’re a military analyst or a political analyst, whether you’re in the Democratic or Republican party, there’s a reality here. Donald Trump has met the moment of truth. The kind of fictional life that he’s led and evoked over the last four or five decades has now been unmasked as a deadly drama. It’s going to cost the lives of so many people. It’s going to devastate the US economy and the regional economy. It’s going to set back America and its standing in the world. It’s a horrific moment.”
Larry Jacobs, director of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota.

This is kind of where we need Prince Philip.

That thought occurred to me, or at least the rather outspoken version of Charles we had 10 years ago.

AcrossthePond55 · 31/03/2026 22:57

Is that the best he can do as a tantrum? He's losing his edge.

@Spandauer Thanks for the new thread. The last one was started on the 21st and got filled up on the 31st. 10 days! I wonder if that's a record for us.

In other news, Scrotus is currently signing an EO that limits mail in voting. He wants to use the (supposedly confidential) Social Security database to create a list of US citizens then circulate that list amongst the states. Then will require that states allow NO ballots be mailed to anyone not on that list. And that the Post Office refuse to deliver them if by some chance they are. I'm sure this will be swiftly challenged in court.

Thing is, back in the 'good old days' SSA didn't require proof of citizenship. So there may be boomer age voters who never had to provide it. As a boomer himself, it's likely he never had to.

I think KC should not go.

They could use the jet fuel shortage as an excuse.

Seriously though, Trump will take the visit as "I am so important the King of England came to see me."

All we will get from it is a dose of international humiliation.

Big Balls(room)

"Mr Trump branded the National Trust for Historic Preservation "a radical left group of lunatics whose funding was stopped by Congress in 2005"."

That's from Sky as usual. And this, an epic understatement:

"If the construction of the ballroom goes ahead, it would mark the most significant change to the White House since Harry S Truman added a balcony to the south side of the mansion."

Check the photo of the model below. It is BIGGER than the Whitehouse. It is on public owned land, no planning permission, no discussion, no impact studies, no approvals of any sort, no archeological surveys done and not even any sort of contract on who will actually own it (both while he is in office and afterwards).

The bold part is my own thought, Because I can see it now. Rental fees from Trump Ballrooms LLC. Covenant of use. Trump Ballrooms LLC reserve final approval for what it's property is used for

"The judge wrote: "I have concluded that the National Trust is likely to succeed on the merits because no statute comes close to giving the President the authority he claims to have.

"The President of the United States is the steward of the White House for future generations of First Families. He is not, however, the owner!""

Trump : "sues me for a ballroom that is under budget, ahead of schedule, being built at no cost to the taxpayer, and will be the finest building of its kind anywhere in the world".

No cost to the taxpayer. Pull the other one. Who paid for the court case that just happened ? And lets not mention your bunker, bomb proof windows, drone proof roof etc.

Thks for new thread @Spandauer

As a lighthearted bit : " other threads" and Trumpians.

A Trumpist claimed they had chased me away. I replied. Straight from the Trump playbook chapter on "libs tears".

Then there was the Trumpeter who posted a quote from an expert. And unusually, this Trumpist provided a link to the source of this quote. The expert and source totally pukka. "See, this expert totally backs up what I say". Except no. The poster had changed what the expert had said. Several posters replied, black and white, what you claim the expert said v what the expert really said. Denial and flounce.

Loads of mini Trumps, all being just like Trump.

BruceAndNosh · 01/04/2026 05:50

So now Trump is saying US action could end in 2 or 3 weeks even without a deal.
So he's achieved nothing apart from kicking the wasps nest and somehow hopes the angry swarm won't carry on stinging.

RedTagAlan · 01/04/2026 06:04

"Donald Trump has indicted the US will be finished in Iran in "two or three weeks" regardless of whether a deal is done with Tehran. "

I can't find what he actually said. But is that a threat in his odd mind ?

Look, deal or no deal, we are gonna stop bombing you in two weeks no matter what. So if you want to make a deal to get us to stop bombing you, you better be quick cos you only got 2, maybe 3, weeks left. Otherwise we are done. We are outa here.

And by the way, if you don't do a deal to get us to stop bombing you, then not only will we stop bombing you, but we also wash our hands of the Strait of Hormuz. That will be your problem, not ours.

I can see how he managed to bankrupt casinos.

RedTagAlan · 01/04/2026 06:24

Trumpsters -

"It's stupid to post links. Anyone can use google to see what we say is true."

I paraphrase, but seen in the wild.

Thousands of innocent people have died. Just so he can swagger around trying to look like the biggest gun in town. It’s absolutely tragic.

TiredCatLady · 01/04/2026 07:07

There’s that two weeks again.

There's a scene in Total Recall where a disguise bot malfunctions and keeps saying “two weeks” over and over again… not suggesting we’re in some PKD dystopian future or anything. Oh wait.

RedTagAlan · 01/04/2026 07:12

This on Sky feed in the last hour:

"Israel completes 'wide-scale' strikes on Tehran

The Israeli military has provided an update on its operations against Iran.
A "wide-scale wave of strikes targeting infrastructure sites" of the regime has been "completed", according to an IDF post on Telegram.

In a separate post, the IDF says one of the Israeli air force's drones was taken down by a missile in southern Lebanon overnight.
"The incident is under review," it added."

This is confusing. Israel said yesterday there was weeks to go. And Trump says 2 weeks. "Wide scale" doing heavy work here ?

That these lot are martians could explain a bit of the craziness, because they definitively sound like from another planet!
I thought the "plan", yesterday, was to bomb Iran till they agree to a deal. I like more the I am leaving in two weeks, or else "plan". It sounds less violent and maybe we do not have to see Hegseth unsettling grin on another press conference.

On ‘no cost to the tax payer’ Apple etc. aren’t donating to the construction because they recognise good design. They are making an investment in return for services.

Tomorrow morn for me. ARRRGGGHHHH... that means before the sun is over the yard arm.

Ahh well. An extra spoon of instant then. And maybe a "woodbine" instead of a "light".

The King needs to pull a sickie at the last minute.

<Phone call to Trump with hankie over the mouthpiece and lots of fake coughing and a husky voice>
'Really sorry, Donald old chap, seem to have come down with some kind of flu overnight...cough, cough...yes, I hope it is just one of those 24 hour bugs, should be ok in a couple of days. Well, here comes Camilla with a Lemsip so I'd better get back to bed, you know what these women are like!...cough, cough, sniffle... I'll get my people to call your people and we can rearrange...'

Crikey! Meeting one in the wild. Were you able to make any dents in their arguments?

I have them in the family - my late husband was American (and hated Trump). I have zero contact with them, they're deep in the cult.

I don't know how long this has been the case, but lately threads are being dominated by posters wanting a gotcha moment. When you point out they are wrong, the whataboutry or something similar starts. I hate it when they start picking on one poster and then want to jump in to support that poster.
That 'tree-related' one is particularly bad and I'm not convinced is genuine, just wants to push his/her opinions on everyone.
I've also directed one clear-headed poster to this thread. Hope they join us.

9pm ET so 2am in U.K. (plus he'll be late as per usual) so don't think I'll be tuning in.

As he's now decided Iran doesn't need to agree to a deal for the US to leave and with all the guff about bombing but not bombing or else they'll leave, it really is Alice in Wonderland gobbledegook.

If he blames the U.K. and Europe in his address tonight (which he will in some way) then KC's visit really should be cancelled/postponed.

So many questions -

Why send all the ships if they are just going to turn around and go home? Trump is impulsive, but did he really send all those troops to the Gulf to do nothing?

Also, we are hearing a lot from Trump and his government about America's (former?) NATO allies but is Trump about to trash relations with all the Gulf states?

If Trump retreats it seems as though China has an opportunity to swoop in and be the reliable partner.
