The King of Crazytown Can't Control The Chaos - Trump Thread #159

Spandauer · 31/03/2026 17:54

“Whether you’re a military analyst or a political analyst, whether you’re in the Democratic or Republican party, there’s a reality here. Donald Trump has met the moment of truth. The kind of fictional life that he’s led and evoked over the last four or five decades has now been unmasked as a deadly drama. It’s going to cost the lives of so many people. It’s going to devastate the US economy and the regional economy. It’s going to set back America and its standing in the world. It’s a horrific moment.”
Larry Jacobs, director of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota.

"Bring it on!" A very modern response from Iran to Trump.

Indeed. And while the brutal authoritarian theocratic regime are still the bad guys here, it is difficult not to stare on in slack jawed amazement at the stupidity of Trump and his acolytes.

I reckon the news and rhetoric coming out of the Whitehouse is likely exactly the same as what Putin was saying when he first invaded Ukraine. And Trump spewing " I did something nobody else did !" Yes you moron, there is a fucking reason nobody else did it. And now you are finding out.

logicisall · 03/04/2026 09:47

My take on Iran's "recklessness" is that it is using the cards it has. A possibly imagined scenario from the Iranian pov could have been:

US/Israel attacks
Iran mines SoH but allows some shipping through
Opportunity for ceasefire negotiations created

Everything tho, depends on the reasons why the attacks were launched in the first place and that has been as clear as mud if we listen to Trump.

A French container ship has successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, the first French container vessel to do so since the Iran war began.

Iran is also claiming it shot down a US F-35 fighter jet. The US denies this.

It's almost as if Iran is choosing where to give 'Get out of jail, Free' cards. 🤔

I don't think Iran has been reckless at all. Trump has. And I agree. Iran holds the cards.

Iran has never hidden the fact that it has gone down the loads of missiles route. The DPRK and PRC are exactly the same. And the DPRK have the additional deterrent that Seoul is within range of conventional artillery. The PRC has boasted for years about how many tens of thousands of missiles they have, to launch overwhelming retaliations against carrier groups.

Western defenses are amazing. From memory, the UK type 45 destroyer can target about 148 threats, and what it fires at will pretty much be hit. But it only has 16 anti missile interceptors. US systems are about the same.

It is Trump that has been reckless. Because while he has amazing kit, he has gone to war against someone with more far missiles than he can shoot down.

And lets not mention the drones.

Yes. Teasing Trump.

I wonder if the ship is empty or full ? Is Fertilizer exported in bulk or bagged up in containers? No idea.

But yes. Iran can say here, "this is what we allow when people stand up to the US". A thank you to Macron. The folk on the "other threads" are point blank refusing to accept this. Yes, the pro brexiters are now calling for unity and collective action. The concept of individual countries doing separate deals is now somehow abhorrent to them.

Consistently inconsistent ?

DancingFerret · 03/04/2026 10:39

Trump is reckless in the same way has a toddler who's gained access to the big kids' toys. That's what makes this current situation so frightening.

It seems there's no end to the damage the giant orange baby can do - especially now he's surrounding himself with even more compliant and jingoistic "yes men".

Eyesopenwideawake · 03/04/2026 10:45

It's a weird world where Iran are being the most statesmanlike in their pronouncements, and have by far the best memes.

logicisall · 03/04/2026 11:01

re the 'other thread', a couple of posters there seem very interesting - educated, knowledgeable and with something to add to the debate. Hope they come over here (unless they're already here under a different user name).

@RedTagAlan and others, thank you for your service there 🙌
I'm still sitting on my hands. I did venture on to another one but the OP disappeared!

It really is

Definitely looks like a USAF F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet downed by Iran.

Bear on mind the USAF lost three 15Es at the start of this conflct due to a blue on blue with Kuwati Air Defence....

We'd need to see a lot more by way of imagery to really make a call on the veracity of the Iranian's claim.

Yes indeed.

The Iran administration might tell its lies in a less toddlerish manner than the current US administration, but it still lies massively.

Regarding whether they have shot an F-15E down in the last day or so, or even if one crashed on their territory.

It's not impossible but none of the several images I've seen provide anything like enough info to be taken as proof.

This :
https://taskandpurpose.com/news/82nd-airbone-event-cancelled-iran-war/

Plus this:
Spain not allowing US to use Naval Station Rota and Morón Air Base, (strategic and logistical advantages for U.S. military operations in the Middle East)

Equals:
Invasion?

Losing bases means losing flexibility. Reducing the attack vector. Great news for a defender - fewer air lanes to watch

It also means your attack planning needs to factor in what to do if a plane needs to land in an emergency. Because by extension any airspace closed to the US will mean the ground below is unavailable. A distressed aircraft forced to land on non co-operating soil in an emergency could be grounded by the host.

RedTagAlan · 03/04/2026 11:48

Consistently inconsistent ?

Agree with what Amnesty international say about Iran, but not Gaza etc.

Agree with death sentence, but not when Iran do it.

Fully support ICE when they shoot protestors, but not when Iran do it.

Iranian women football team must be given asylum. Asylum must be stopped.

Trump always means what he says. Trump did not mean that.

BBC never report this stuff. Look at this BBC report.

NATO and the EU must step up. NATO and the EU should be abolished.

Iran targets civilians. The school was an understandable error.

The Guardian is leftie propaganda. Look at this Guardian article.

We must make collective deals. Deals must be up to individual nations.

Israel is now safer now because of this war. Israel is not safe till Iran destroyed.

The US don't bomb civ infrastructure. That civ infrastructure is a legit target,

Their fighters hide among civilians. US troops are entitled to stay in hotels.

Look at the war crimes Iran do. Those are not war crimes.

The Iranian regime are corrupt. Trump is not corrupt; he is clever making money.

This thread is not about that, stay on topic. Whatabout this AND that ?

Those professors of law are not experts on law. My experts are real experts.

That is Iranian propaganda. See what Iran are saying now.

Trump knows what he is doing. Trump knows what he is doing.

I suppose they are sort of consistent. Ah well, that "other thread" is full but no matter, the usual has started many more. TDS indeed.

Grok and desalination plants. And paraphrasing/ condensing: They have no right to strike a country who they are not at war with who host airbases from where the country are at war with launch strikes against them from.

Phew.

No right. No right at all.

Is right wing Grok still a thing ?

The loss of Spanish bases complicates things for the USAF logisticaly but doesn't cut off attacks towards Iran along a threat axis from the West.

As far as emergencies go, I'm sure there will be available options close to Iran should the need arise, but they might not get talked about.

US C-130 Hercules videoed flying low over Iran, dropping flares. Likely searching for the pilots of the downed F-15E fighter jet.
