Very happy as I can't stand him

Oh I’ve liked his radio show - much better than Zoe ball.

I guess the problem will be the speed they’ve got to find someone new. Realistically they’re going to have to get someone already on the books from a different time slot, or someone previously from radio 1 who got too old?!

(back when Zoe Ball got the breakfast show I was disappointed it wasn’t Sara Cox, but if they take her from tea time I’ll miss her on my drive home!)

That's because Vernon and Sara are normal and not completely up their own arses. They can actually speak to listeners and engage with them and be interested in what they're saying.

He's an extremely well paid BBC presenter who's been at the BBC for decades.

Absolutely. I’ve only just started to listen to Radio 1 again as I’m driving a lot for work, and Greg James has turned into a robot compared to how he used to be.

It’s like he’s checked out and is just waiting to be put out to pasture/swapped to Radio 2…

They probably won't say why because it will (probably) come to light that he's been bad for years (probably) and the BBC have again (probably) ignored the behaviour and people complaining. Trusted BBC method of complaints.

I felt he had no rapport with people who phoned in or celebrities he interviewed - as if he couldn't be bothered with them somehow.

Long ago being a DJ was a specific thing. You had to be knowledgeable about music and be good with people. I don't know when it started that any old comedian or telly person was brought in as a DJ.

These threads always show that choosing a presenter ... no way can you please everyone, that's for sure.

BBC have been suspending people for investigation into bullying so a straight sacking seems to suggest something else.

Someone on another site commented that they were trying to set a Sky series record for the RATW with Alfie Watts that was due to start soon and it's vanished from the schedule too. Looks like a total cancellation then...?

The BBC sacked Kaye Adams and it seemed like a wide range of people came out and said how they’d enjoyed working with her and she was professional and kind. If you compare it to Gregg Wallace where there were endless stories of his inappropriate behaviour it seemed strange. I suppose time will tell which side SM’s case aligns with.

To be fair, it’s been less than a week. They will have to follow proper processes. Getting him off air ASAP seems good.

A lot do the same. I guess it's an easy way to earn money / be famous.

I don't particularly like him as he has a colossal ego and turns every single conversation back to himself - who he's met, what he's done. He's definitely an 11-erife character.

But I agree with pp that he was much better on the Breakfast Show than on the afternoon slot.

What I dread beyond everything is that fucking Gary Davies gets the show! Please God no!

I hope whoever was wronged by SM is OK and is receiving the appropriate help.

Yes, I know what you mean. He comes across as super, super nice but there is a faint undercurrent of....I don't know....cut-throatedness? Like his smile doesn't reach his eyes.

Same as with poor old Emma Willis. She has had years of voice training to soften her screechy voice and will just lapse into her natural (unfortunate) voice quite often. Radio really is not her medium.

Yes! I have a friend who works in TV / radio. They make the point that the truly best presenters (Terry, Claudia, Davina, Graham) do genuinely really like and are interested in people. You can't fake that and SM never really could I felt....
