His breakfast show made me cringe. Those jingles set my teeth on edge. 😬

I thought it was very suspicious that Gary Davis was suddenly at the helm and SM hadn't said he'd be off.

Please don't replace him with some "comedian"

Rob Beckett or Josh Widdecombe would actually tip me over the edge.

Romesh on a Saturday is bad enough. Just hysterically laughing with the traffic woman constantly.

user7463246787 · 30/03/2026 12:06

I’ve always liked him, R1 and R2. Really hope it’s not something awful as I've always thought he was very relatable and obviously loved Radio.

Probably said something about Israel. That seems the instant sackable offence these days

I highly doubt Scott Mills would ever be discussing Israel in any context 😐

HoobleDooble · 30/03/2026 12:07

I'd just finally warmed to him after missing Zoe Ball!

Not surprised here. Don't listen to radio 1, but he came across as creepy and controlling on Race Across the World. His treatment of his husband especially.

I’ve just posted similar on another thread. He did not come across well on RATW and his DH had the patience of a saint.

At the time, I thought Mills would be tricky to work with. The kind of man who makes the atmosphere at work tense. I would put good money on there being some sort of bullying allegation.

MushroomQueen · 30/03/2026 12:07

Stunned - I’ve always liked him- what could he have done unless spoken about a topic BBC don’t want to be associated with

PoachedSmoke · 30/03/2026 12:08

I miss Zoe a lot. I was quite surprised to find out she's a bit marmite with the listeners but I loved her soothing voice and cheery disposition 😂

Never liked Scott much but thought that was because he's not Zoe. Also his musical choices are questionable (Does anyone really need 'Livin la Vida loca' at 6:30am?)

I quite like Gary and an occasional fill-in. Maybe we'll get Coxy if we're lucky...

SwedishEdith · 30/03/2026 12:09

Oh, I like OJ as well. Seems to actually like music which rarely seems to be a key component for being a DJ these days (shakes stick). Shaun Keaveney isn't really a radio 2 person. He used to sit in for the Saturday pm show where actual musicians joined and played and he was a good fit for that.

GenieGenealogy · 30/03/2026 12:09

HermioneWeasley · 30/03/2026 11:55

I really enjoy his breakfast show and have been missing him. Whatever he’s done must be appalling given what the BBC has shown they will tolerate.

Or it's less serious but the management style and approach is changing. I'm sure he'll pop up soon enough doing a spill your guts interview on Channel 5.

Shaun Keaveney is great when he's on 6 Music but like you say, he's not suited to Radio 2 at all.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 30/03/2026 12:10

Literally saw the notification and came to find a thread

Whats he done?!?!?!

Arrowthroughtheknee · 30/03/2026 12:11

I've never forgiven him for referring to Christina Aguilera as a slut back on radio one.

pouletvous · 30/03/2026 12:11

Please dont let it be vermon

damelza · 30/03/2026 12:11

He is gender critical, stood up for womens' rights to safe single sex spaces and got sacked for that.

😊

Myblueclematis · 30/03/2026 12:12

Maybe Vernon will take over the breakfast show or maybe Romesh Ranganathan or Rob Beckett, those two appear to be on everything recently.

Gary Davies is ok, like above, I find the deja woooooooooooooooooh intensely irritating.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 30/03/2026 12:12

To be honest I’ve never noticed him that much… but he always came across as inoffensive and nice.

He’s been sacked from BBC in entirety though not just suspended like Huw Edwards so it must be bad.

TamarindCottage · 30/03/2026 12:12

Heh heh, oh dear - it couldn't have happened to a smugger person! #tinyviolin

Blimey. I can’t imagine what would be bad enough given how long others have held on at the BBC.

Obviously we are not going to be allowed to speculate on anything potentially criminal or exploitative, or the thread will get pulled.

However, I think given what has been allowed to go on for far too long with other big personalities in the past and the current backlash the BBC are facing around that and on various other levels (Gaza etc) means that people are starting to desert the licence fee in unprecedented numbers. Confidence in, and respect for the BBC is at an all time low.

My hunch is that if something deeply unsavoury about SM is about to come to light, the BBC wants to distance itself from it before the shit hits the fan, not afterwards, as has usually been the case.

When does the new blokey officially take over? Perhaps this is his influence already. Starting tough, as he means to go on?

JulietteHasAGun · 30/03/2026 12:12

I wonder if there’s been complaints from junior staff about him being hard to work with/bullying? The bbc seem to be having a crack down on that sort of thing, aren’t they investigating Naga?

PuppyMonkey · 30/03/2026 12:13

I wonder what “due to personal conduct” could mean? I could take or leave him TBF. I never liked Zoe so found him an improvement but won’t miss him much. It’s a big gig, the R2 breakfast show, they’re going to need a heavyweight to fill the slot permanently. No offence to Gary Davies but I don’t think he’s big enough.

Victoriawould24 · 30/03/2026 12:13

I couldn’t listen to him , he always seemed to me very false the sort to love sucking up to celebrities but would be rude to waiters and support staff, it must have been something really bad for such a quick decision although the BBC can’t really afford to be wishy washy at the moment after the mishandling of people like Gregg Wallace.

Arraminta · 30/03/2026 12:13

Well considering how much abhorrent behaviour the BBC is more than happy to tolerate, he must have been caught sacrificing puppies on Satan's Altar.

DisforDarkChocolate · 30/03/2026 12:13

Can we have someone new, not a R1 has been.

Ihateboris · 30/03/2026 12:13

Yes, Naga has been accused of bullying.
