I liked him on the Breakfast Show (I didn't/don't like Zoe Ball). I wonder what he did?!

😂I can't stand that quiz.

Likewise I turn the volume off for the highly fucking irritating Sara Cox "kids in a car" segment too.

And agree re the "deja woo". So annoying.

Maybe we're just miserable 😆

God I can't bear the Kids in the Car intro. Its so aggravating. Love Sara though.

Scott I have always found had an edge to him. Significant main character energy and never seems to really like members of the public he speaks to. Just celebs and even then always made it about him.

Clearly a very serious matter to be sacked so unilaterally.

GenieGenealogy · 30/03/2026 12:14

He has been on BBC Radio since 2004, according to Wiki, that's a long career to end so suddenly.

Everlore · 30/03/2026 12:14

Despite being in my late 30s I am still listening to Radio 1. I constantly live in fear of the police knocking on my door to ask why I haven't moved over to Radio 2, as is the law for people of my advanced age!
With this in mind, I can't offer an opinion on the quality of Scott's R2 show but we do miss him hosting the chart show. Scott at least was knowledgable about chart music, past and present, the new regular host, Jack Saunders, seems musically illiterate, seems to know nothing about pop music, regularly gets facts and figures and even chart placing wrong when presenting, despite presumably having the information in front of him, and fills the air-time with inane nonsense, no interesting facts about the chart like Scott used to provide.
I know we are in a minority but as people who are quite obsessive about our pop music trivia we still follow the charts regularly so, even if nobody else cares about the drop in standards of the R1 chart show, we do!

This 💯

Can Greg James move to radio 2 now? He feels too old for radio 1, I'm fed up with him blocking the schedule and stopping the new presenters getting a spot.

Ihateboris · 30/03/2026 12:15

I'll bet it's to do with inappropriate behavior with a junior staff member.

Ooh it’s on the news now

Miranda65 · 30/03/2026 12:16

Scott Mills IS bland, but better on breakfast than he was in the afternoon (and better than Zoe Ball, who was too manic).
Whatever he has supposedly done, I just hope the BBC have got it right, because otherwise he'll have the lawyers on them.
I suspect the Beeb has been scalded by the criticism of how long they took to deal with Huw Edwards, so if Scott Mills has done something allegedly/potentially criminal, they have now gone the other way by taking decisive action before any leaks to the press.

RaraRachael · 30/03/2026 12:16

Hopefully SM's travel woman will depart in solidarity with him even though it seems obvious she's angling for a show of her own.

Myblueclematis · 30/03/2026 12:12

Maybe Vernon will take over the breakfast show or maybe Romesh Ranganathan or Rob Beckett, those two appear to be on everything recently.

Gary Davies is ok, like above, I find the deja woooooooooooooooooh intensely irritating.

God no, please not Rob Beckett. He was pretty swiftly removed from the weekend slot he was given, apparently because other work obligations meant too many diary clashes. Although I would have thought that sort of thing would have been ironed out before he was given his contract? Hmm

I think it was probably just because his ratings were diabolical and his show was utter rubbish.

keepswimming38 · 30/03/2026 12:17

It just said the BBC are getting ahead of something- implies it’s going to come out!

Handeyethingyowl · 30/03/2026 12:17

That’s really sad. I really like his radio manner and things like him being obsessed with Neighbours and Kylie. He always seemed fairly normal to me which was a plus. Quite shocked.

landlordhell · 30/03/2026 12:17

No tears here. Cannot bear him.

It must be something pretty bad to get rid of him completely from the beeb.

Lovemycat2023 · 30/03/2026 12:19

I never find him very warm on the radio. I find Vernon and Sara much more personable. But pretty shocked he’s gone without any rumours coming out about the details.

Pe55yP00 · 30/03/2026 12:19

Complete turn off... Hopefully they get it right this time

SwedishEdith · 30/03/2026 12:20

Why has Rob Beckett's wife started appearing with him on TV? Apologies to her if I've missed something and she's actually the talent and workhorse behind the puppet but she's started just sitting next to him on TV programmes.

biwr · 30/03/2026 12:20

something is coming out about this, you don’t get sacked after a long time like this. They usually suspend whilst doing an investigation first don’t they?

Oh God - yes I can't bear her voice. Sort of blocked nose / adenoidy. But she seemed like a nice woman so I feel bad to say that. She had to put up with Scott each morning too ...

Triskellion75 · 30/03/2026 12:20

Must be bad if the BBC have acted so quickly. Either that or they've finally learned from their past fuck ups.

Same here! Followed him since the early days of R1 and used to howl with laughter listening to the ‘Laura’s diary’ feature on the way home. Probably going back 20 years ago now thinking about it! Hopefully it won’t be Gary D replacing him as his voice sends me back to sleep 🫣

landlordhell · 30/03/2026 12:21

He always came across as smarmy to me. How the BBC thought Je could replace Steve Wright will never understand. He is so weird on radio, no flow and just couldn’t relate to him. The only thing I liked was the music police.

LieLowLulu · 30/03/2026 12:21

The BBC won't say why.

Hmm

Is this another Jimmy S, Philip Schofield, Russell Brand, saga?

Instant dismissal- often stuff like sexual behaviour, accessing unsuitable material at work or on work IT etc.

I think the licence payers deserve an explanation.

Happyjoe · 30/03/2026 12:21

Always thought something a bit off about him! And radio 2 material he was not. Fed up with radio 2 being a dumping ground for radio 1 has beens.

Bring back Ken. And Steve. (yeah I don't move on fast).
