One of his quotes

'If youre ever feeling lonely - just turn on the radio'

Has gotten me through some shite times

(I only listened to him on radio 1 though!)

Sad end to his career. He has too much class to go full on gb news.

That’s what Steve Wright used to say- not original.

I have always said he’s got something on someone at the BBC to get that job. Let’s see what happens.

That's exactly what my OH has always said!

GenieGenealogy · 30/03/2026 12:29

I worked with Zoe Ball last year on something and she is lovely. Very down to earth and chatty. Interested in people. Much longer and more varied career than Scott Mills and not up her own arse at all.

Why has Rob Beckett's wife started appearing with him on TV? Apologies to her if I've missed something and she's actually the talent and workhorse behind the puppet but she's started just sitting next to him on TV programmes.

She’s written an excellent book about parenting-and is wisely using Rob to help promote it.

Silverbirchleaf · 30/03/2026 12:30

I really lived Scott Mills and will miss him on the radio. He seemed to genuinely appreciate being on radio 2.

We did notice that Gary never revealed why Scott was off - holiday, illness etc.

wonder if they’ll move Greg James over, or Nic Grimshaw?

JustSawJohnny · 30/03/2026 12:30

mumofoneAloneandwell · 30/03/2026 12:10

Literally saw the notification and came to find a thread

Whats he done?!?!?!

My first thought was some sort of inappropriate relationship with a junior member of staff, after so many instances in the last few years that have resulted in sacking.

Feels internal as a looming, scandalous press release would probably have dropped already.

Same! Was suprised he's clung on so long. Isn't there a new director general, maybe his dirt on someone is no longer relevant!

DanceMumTaxi · 30/03/2026 12:31

Gutted, have listened to him for years and love him on the breakfast show. I have quite a long commute and it’s so uplifting and funny. No idea what I’ll listen to now. Can’t go back to Chris Evan’s on Virgin, too much chat about health and running. It’s just boring. I was made up when I heard Scott Mills was taking over the breakfast show. The start to my day just won’t be the same. The guy they’ve got covering is absolutely dreadful.

Nick Grimshaw's on Radio 6 Music now

landlordhell · 30/03/2026 12:31

Nic Grimshaw is far superior to SM. I would be happy as I currently listen to him on R6 in the morning.

Starlight1979 · 30/03/2026 12:31

KidsDoBetter · 30/03/2026 12:27

Yes! I have a friend who works in TV / radio. They make the point that the truly best presenters (Terry, Claudia, Davina, Graham) do genuinely really like and are interested in people. You can't fake that and SM never really could I felt....

Agreed. I think the same about Sara Cox, Vernon Kaye, Dermot O Leary, Michael Ball, Jeremy Vine, Rylan... They always have a proper chat with the listeners, engage with them and show genuine interest.

Scott Mills falls into the same bracket as Jo Whiley. Only does it because it's part of the job but really has zero interest in mere mortals.

SquallyShowersLater · 30/03/2026 12:31

Starlight1979 · 30/03/2026 12:25

This shocked me too! What have I missed??

Rylan is not a racist. At least he hasn't said or done anything publically that would show any evidence of it, so there is no reason to come to that conclusion.

I guess that poster is referring to the fact that he had a little rant on Good Morning (during a relevant feature) about the government failing to get a grip on the migrant boats, not 'smashing the gangs' as they'd promised and the runaway costs of housing those migrants in hotels for years on end.

chateauneufdupapa · 30/03/2026 12:32

365RubyRed · 30/03/2026 12:23

Rylan is a racist?

Yeah he came out with that ‘asylum seekers get given an iPad in their posh hotels’ nonsense recently

Dear god, not Grimmy. Greg isn’t too bad, but just not funny like Scott.

That does not make him a racist.

JustSawJohnny · 30/03/2026 12:33

JustSawJohnny · 30/03/2026 12:25

How does that work when we don't even know what he's done?

I'm no Zoe Ball fan but she quit, she wasn't sacked and she didn't seem to leave under a dark cloud, either.

Or have I read this wrong and you're saying there was no scandal with Zoe Ball, after many years at the BBC, but put a man in the job and here we go again?

My bad, if so 😂

DancingPhantom · 30/03/2026 12:33

I don't think Nick Grimshaw is very Radio 2. I think he works well on 6 Music. He's clearly into music and imagine he likes the alternative playlist options he gets there.

I stopped listening to Chris Evans when he used to bang on about his wellness journeys and "finding himself" (along with his incessant talking about marathons and diets).

Does he still go on about this now? Might be time to switch back!

MissyB1 · 30/03/2026 12:33

It will almost certainly be something like inappropriate behaviour with a junior colleague - or online. I found him intensely irritating and fake, all thst “love you bye” made me want to 🤮

AlphaBravoGamma · 30/03/2026 12:33

I'd be more than happy if they shunted Grimshaw off 6music onto R2!

KidsDoBetter · 30/03/2026 12:34

I am going to start a petition to forcibly bring Christian O'Connell back from Australia. After Terry Wogan he was my absolute favourite breakfast show host. Was gutted when he emigrated ...

tachetastic · 30/03/2026 12:34

I love Scott Mills though I confess I think his formula worked better on the early afternoon show than on the breakfast show. Regardless I always thought he came over as a really nice person.

For the BBC to sack him outright rather than put him on leave it must be pretty damning against him. I hope it's something he can recover from, though depending on what it concerns he may not deserve to.

Still, best not to judge until we know the facts.

Oh god yeah me too. Him and his very rich cronies bragging about their lovely lives. Had to switch to Radio 6.
