Just seen this! I was a bit dubious at first but have grown to love his breakfast show!!!!! I wonder what he’s done?!

He's never been my fave to listen to but I always got the impression he's thought of as a nice person. Intrigued as to what has happened!

Wow…I didn’t like his show nearly as much as Zoe Ball but could never have predicted this. I assumed I had missed his holiday announcement when he didn’t come back one day last week??

Blimey. I can’t imagine what would be bad enough given how long others have held on at the BBC.

I actually think he comes across ok as a person and on tv programmes but he was bloody awful on the radio. His interactions with listeners were painful. He would ask a question but then completely disregard the reply and just move on like he was reading from a script.

Please dont let shaun keaveny (sp?) Replace him . He ruins every show he covers with his boring voice. Id be happy if they keep Gary on.

Whatever has done, it must be pretty damn serious for him to have been sacked after all this time.

I don't feel entirely positive about whoever replaces him, as the BBC are dreadful at choosing presenters for Radio 2 at the moment. Also lot's of presenters choosing to leave at the moment. it is strange.

I really enjoy his breakfast show and have been missing him. Whatever he’s done must be appalling given what the BBC has shown they will tolerate.

For once the bbc appear to be acting accordingly before rumours in the media leave them with no other option

I bet he is devastated. Love him and it meant the world to him. Very sad.
