Definitely a one wear item in almost all circs. However, if I'm wfh and I've only put them on for a 30 min trip to the local shop I might wear them the next day for a similarly short time.

Kickinthenostalgia · 22/03/2026 23:00

Daily unless they get wet…

WonkyMirror · 22/03/2026 23:03

Single use, I find it weird not to, they’re the easiest thing to fling in the washer.

YesItsMe44 · 22/03/2026 23:08

CrowMate · 22/03/2026 10:59

I see them as single wear items.

Single wear as change each day, or you throw them away after a day's use?

Clean pair every morning, and another clean pair if I shower in the middle of the day/go swimming/otherwise take my socks off!

I would rather not put already-worn socks back on basically. So a clean pair every time I take them off!

I would never take a new pair of socks with me to put on after swimming, I'd always just put on the same ones I'd had before

Is this something most people do?

I change daily, and would wear different socks for any sports activity I'd need to shower after.

GlomOfNit · 22/03/2026 23:14

I mostly wear wool socks (they might have a small percentage of synthetic for wear but they're at least 70% wool) which are amazingly stink-free and breathable. I'll wear them on rotation a bit so I'm probably not wearing the same pair two days running, but each pair will get about 3/4 wears before being hand-washed. This is entirely normal for wool garments - they just don't harbour bacteria like other fibres and therefore aren't stinky. I don't have smelly or sweaty feet, though.

If I'm wearing cotton socks I'll change every day. And I wear bed socks (wool, again) which I'm afraid I only change weekly. Judge away! Grin

Ponderingwindow · 22/03/2026 23:17

At least daily. Sometimes multiple pairs in a day. I don’t leave socks on when they aren’t absolutely necessary and I won’t reuse a pair I took off.

I hate socks.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 22/03/2026 23:19

Once a week (so after 3-4 wears). But I shower daily and that seems mind blowing to half of MN!

Watdidusay · 22/03/2026 23:28

If they're big fuzzy lounging socks I could probably do 3 days but I would take them off to leave the house. I have a no shoes policy in the house so the floors are clean and the fuzzy socks wouldn't go in shoes.

Otherwise single use.

80smonster · 22/03/2026 23:38

Each outfit gets a fresh pair. Gym, going out, etc.

AffableApple · 22/03/2026 23:53

Slipper-type socks, a few times. They don't count as socks

Other socks, one or two different pairs in a day, sometimes three: I change after they've walked the floors of a shoes-off toddler class, or after exercise, or after I inevitably walk in and squish rice or beans on the floor after thr nightly kitchen clean-up.

Cathod · 22/03/2026 23:59

I always take a fresh pair to change into after soft play cos otherwise I feel grim!

In fairness, after soft play everyone should have a shower while they set fire to their clothes. Then a bath. Then another shower. And probably another shower and a course of antibiotics.

Socks are the least of it!

Youngest DC is 14 and I am so happy that those snot encrusted days are far behind me!

youbizarrehorse · 23/03/2026 00:52

Every time I have a shower, so daily.

mathanxiety · 23/03/2026 01:38

Daily, as with knickers and bra.

DesignerStars · 22/03/2026 22:24

Wearing socks at home is unhealthy anyway. Much healthier to go barefoot.

In what way is it unhealthy?

I have never heard of this. My feet get cold very easily and I only go sock free in hot weather.

RampantIvy · 23/03/2026 06:01

Disturbia81 · 22/03/2026 20:10

They get really dirty, so a few times a day

Is this tongue in cheek?
Why not wear slippers or sliders?

superchick · 23/03/2026 06:08

I hate socks, they feel so restrictive. I put on a pair before I put on shoes and take them off as soon as I get home again. If they weren't worn for long I'll use the same pair if I go out again later. But otherwise they go in the wash.

RampantIvy · 23/03/2026 06:18

I'm amazed at how tough so many posters are. I hate having cold feet and don't find socks restrictive. It needs to be at least 21 degrees before I go sock free.

Wearing trainers without socks just makes them sweaty and smelly so, presumably they get washed regularly?

I put clean socks on every day BTW. It's minging not to

August1980 · 23/03/2026 07:00

Daily! Single use items. Husband changes a few times a day though…gym socks, dog walking socks, work socks, rugby socks…daughter too every time she changes a new pair of socks - the laundry in this house is relentless

ImogenBrocklehurst · 23/03/2026 07:10

Don’t wear them: hate my toes being confined.

EndorsingPRActice · 23/03/2026 07:18

Daily with the exception of walking socks. If I’m on holiday and walking a lot, I rewear my walking socks 2 or 3 times. I don’t own 7 pairs of walking socks and it would take up a large amount of luggage space. When the walk is over I put my normal socks back on, which are changed daily, or if they get messy in any way or it’s horribly hot, then I’d change them again. TBH I’ve had no problems with smelly feet on walking holidays.

YesssSpringHasSprung · 23/03/2026 07:38

How can this even be a question?

SouthernNights59 · 23/03/2026 07:55

Daily normally. I wear merino socks when I go for my daily long walk so I usually get two days out of them as I take them off as soon as I get home.

dh280125 · 23/03/2026 08:58

Daily unless flying, when I usually have a spare pair in hand luggage and change at some point.
