Fresh pair daily, surely?! I see socks like underwear, fresh knickers and socks every day.

This

DesignerStars · 22/03/2026 11:31

I don’t wear them at home, so put them on to go out and then take them off and put them in the washing basket as soon as I get home.

cottagebytheseaside · 22/03/2026 11:32

Every day. I dont really understand why you wouldnt change them daily - they're the same as underwear in that regard

hahabahbag · 22/03/2026 11:35

Daily unless “special socks” only worn for an hour or two and not dirty eg hand wash wool socks I wear with my motorcycle boots(and have cotton socks on under)

Linenspots · 22/03/2026 12:07

Daily when I do wear them. I don't like wearing them though, as it highlights how dirty the, what I thought was clean, kitchen floor is, judging by the state of the bottom of the socks at the end of the day!

CremeEggThief · 22/03/2026 12:09

Socks and pants/knickers are the only items of clothing that need to be changed daily.

SmokeySmokeyBacon · 22/03/2026 12:34

I'm interested in why people change them daily.
If you don't have sweaty or smelly feet, why do you change socks after one day? Do you also change gloves after the same number of hours' wear? If not why not?
What about jeans? They touch your upper thighs and your ankles.

What is it about feet specifically (if not sweaty/smelly obviously) which is different to other body parts?

Gwenhwyfar · 22/03/2026 12:41

Every day except for my bed socks where I do what I want when I sleep alone.

ThisOchreHedgehog · 22/03/2026 12:42

My cosy lounging at home socks I’ll easily wear for a few days if not the whole week.

If I’m WFH I’ll change into “outside” socks when popping out and re-wear them if I’m only actually outside for a short time.

Otherwise I change them daily.

muddyford · 22/03/2026 12:42

Every day.

But feet ARE sweaty in a way those other parts you mentioned are not.
And the sweat from the feet can smell bad just like armpits and crotch.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 22/03/2026 12:43

Normal socks daily. Slippers socks can sometimes be a couple of wears as they’re usually only worn for a couple of hours

Yes, and I'd include tights and stockings as types of socks.

Feet and socks smell, and obviously sweat even if you don’t have ‘sweaty feet’. Socks pick up dirt anytime you aren’t wearing shoes also, because they rub on the floor. My thighs don’t rub on the floor

Cricketashes · 22/03/2026 12:48

We wear them a few days. Our feet don't smell or sweat. Never had any foot infections etc so it's obviously doing no harm.
I also never walk around barefoot so they never come into contact with dirt on the floors.

TomatoSandwiches · 22/03/2026 12:53

You have more sweat glands on your feet than anywhere else on your body.

Clean socks every day, bed socks ( cashmere/wool ) that are only worn in bed I use for 2-3 days.

Your feet are always sweating/lubricating, always even if you don't feel/think they are.

Chuffingcupboard · 22/03/2026 12:53

I used to do daily but if they are not dirty/smelly then bamboo socks get used twice. It's part of an ongoing effort to reduce the amount of laundry, I know they are small but it all adds us. Pants clean every day (obviously).

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 22/03/2026 12:54

If they are 100% wool, I wear them several times as well does need washing often, but cotton and bamboo I wash after every wear. I like wool best because it is springy, but it’s hard to find.

Branleuse · 22/03/2026 12:57

Daily usually.
In my work though I've realised that a lot of people actually prefer to have the same pair for a few days as they become easier to put on when not freshly washed.

4wardlooking · 22/03/2026 12:59

Daily, I thought this was normal. Merino wool ski socks when skiing I’ll wear 2-3 days, but only because they are so expensive to buy so I have to.

Maddy70 · 22/03/2026 13:00

Fresh every day

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 22/03/2026 13:02

daily

NuffSaidSam · 22/03/2026 13:03

Clean on every morning and then I'll change again if I'm going out for the evening.

I'd also change after a run/exercise or if they were wet/dirty etc.

So at least once a day, sometimes twice.

Thanks for answering, and also @ToKittyornottoKitty , who basically said the same thing as you.

I think I must be an anomaly then, as my feet never sweat, ever. My hands sweat, my back, even my legs on a hot sunny day, but not my feet (although I have not tried wearing plastic shoes on a hot day so maybe they would then).

If I did sweat into my socks, I too would change them daily!

redfishcat · 22/03/2026 13:15

Scampuss · 22/03/2026 11:04

Shop-bought socks daily.
Handknitted wool socks will get a few wears before washing.

Same. Hand knitted socks can cope with a few days wear around the house.
I do change into sports socks or hiking socks for a proper walk though, and then change back after a shower to the handknits.
