Inspired by a reel online, I was amazed by some of the answers.

My socks get worn once and washed.

I don’t wear socks for lounging or pottering around the house though (I hate them). I suppose if people are wearing fluffy or wool socks in lieu of slippers just to sit on the sofa in the evening, maybe they wouldn’t require daily washing? Dunno really. I’m not a sock girl.

Wednesdaytoday · 22/03/2026 13:27

Daily regardless of what they're made of (more often if I'm changing during the day to go somewhere different).

Thanks for answering, and also @ToKittyornottoKitty , who basically said the same thing as you.

I think I must be an anomaly then, as my feet never sweat, ever. My hands sweat, my back, even my legs on a hot sunny day, but not my feet (although I have not tried wearing plastic shoes on a hot day so maybe they would then).

If I did sweat into my socks, I too would change them daily!

They might not sweat in a way you notice - ie you might not feel damp - but they will sweat. If they didn’t, your feet would almost certainly be puffy, swollen and bloated. Not all sweat is especially noticeable - sweat doesn’t necessarily drip or feel wet.

fussychica · 22/03/2026 13:32

Daily. Slipper socks a couple of times.

Okay. Well they never feel damp, and they never smell either. I am not relying on my own sense of smell! DH says they don't smell of anything at all.
When I take off my socks after wearing for a couple of days, the socks smell of washing powder.

dizzydizzydizzy · 22/03/2026 13:37

I used to change them daily but, due to a health problem, now have to wear extra warm socks made of merino wool. They are fine for a couple of days - possibly longer but I stick to 2 days. They are never sweaty or smelly even after 2 days.

I know that many east Asians don't have smelly armpits so maybe it's something like that? Maybe you don't have the same bacteria as the rest of us.

Yes, but the rest of the body sweats in that way as well. Most of us get a particular smell on our feet so it looks like the poster really is different.

Mumofyellows · 22/03/2026 13:56

Every day at least once…who doesn’t?!

BunnyOnTheOnion · 22/03/2026 14:01

I have different socks for different footwear/ activities so I rarely wear the same pair of socks for more than a few hours and tend to change them as I change my shoes/ slippers throughout the day.

Depending on how long I wore them and what I was doing I might use the same pair a few times. Sat at my desk wfh I don't think my feet are any more sweaty/ less hygienic than my arms/ legs and I wouldn't wash a t shirt or pair of jeans I had only worn for a few hours either.

LoudPlumDog · 22/03/2026 14:04

You should change your socks every day, after one wear. It’s actually bad for your feet not to. Just like changing underwear.

Marmite27 · 22/03/2026 14:08

Daily, however today will be a 3 pair day.

I put clean on this morning, then went to the gym. Had a shower after and put on a clean pair. We’re going out for dinner, so likely another pair when I get changed.

Marmite27 · 22/03/2026 14:11

Though sometimes I put thick socks on top of my normal bamboo ones, those I might wear twice. But they’re over other ones, and not in shoes, just for when my feet get cold lounging at home.

I think it’s more likely to be a genetic factor that makes her sweat smell less/not at all. There are genetic things that make a difference (eg certain ethnic groups tend not to get BO for this reason - women in South Korea often don’t need to wear any deodorant).

There was quite a few saying every few days if they were just lounging round the house.

I was doing a screwed up face until I saw this. There's a line between socks in trainers worn out, and home or bed socks - those are worn for longer for me because they're not getting the wear or sweat!

I definitely get stinky pits!
But if I sweat elsewhere on my body, like chest, head, legs, then no, it doesn't ever smell.

Cordeliasdemonbabies · 22/03/2026 16:03

Yes daily unless they have got sweaty or dirty then I'll change during the day.

I'll wear plenty of stuff several times if still clean but not socks or pants unless caught out unexpectedly.

Crunchymum · 22/03/2026 16:10

2 pairs a day in winter (cold house, need warm socks for bed) but often zero pairs a day in summer.

sueelleker · 22/03/2026 16:37

2chocolateoranges · 22/03/2026 11:01

I only wear socks when I’m out the house and wear them once and wash.

i leave the house at 11 am and get home at 6pm and take socks off as soon as I’m home. Would rather walk about with bare feet.

I take mine off, but don't walk around barefoot. I've got a dog, and dog hairs hurt when they work their way into your sole

AnnaQuayRules · 22/03/2026 16:41

Trainer socks or ordinary socks, every day. However I do have some merino wool socks that I will wear for 3 or 4 days running. My feet don't get sweaty and smelly though

Cyclistmumgrandma · 22/03/2026 16:51

Wool socks, 3 or 4 days. Yes, I do subject them to the sniff test! Just back from trip to Ecuador involving lots of walking in rainforest and in hot humid conditions. Wore my wool hiking socks for about 6 days before I needed to change them. Also took a pair of alpaca walking socks which did similarly well and were very comfortable in the sticky conditions.

How often do you change your socks?
BananaSkinShoes · 22/03/2026 16:52

Socks are single wear. Like underwear.

patchitthroughtomypda · 22/03/2026 16:54

Every day. I shower and put on fresh clothes every morning, even if I’m just staying in.
And, if I’m going out at night, I shower again and put on fresh clothes, including socks, or tights, as appropriate.

BertieBotts · 22/03/2026 16:56

If I take them off I put on a clean pair. I don't like the way they feel after they have been worn.

The only exception is when I go swimming, then I would put the same socks back on for simplicity.

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 22/03/2026 16:57

Every few days..My feet aren't that dirty and I don't want to be wedded to my washing machine
