That's according to BBC news. Can't say I'm sorry.

Hopefully posters on here agree with the death penalty, murderers shouldn't be murdering each other in prison

Edited

DP? No, no I do not agree with it…not at all

Wolmando · 07/03/2026 10:31

But most people on MN don't want the death penalty...

Growlybear83 · 07/03/2026 10:21

Yes, Im aware of the background of the man who killed Huntley. I hope the same happens to him too.

Vengeance is clouding your thinking here.

To the people applauding Huntley’s murder. We have a legal system to restrain the violent instincts of people like you. People murdering other people in revenge attacks, and being celebrated for doing so, does not make a safe or just society.

This happened in prison, the legal system put them in there.
Prisons exist to remove dangerous individuals from society and remove the danger, particularly people like Huntley who will never be released (so there is no rehabilitation).

Would so many people go around murdering people if they knew that they would get murdered in prison?

LakieLady · 07/03/2026 10:35

I'd have preferred him to have lived to a ripe old age, and being in constant fear of being beaten up or killed.

I think that would be worse than being beaten over the head.

And rightly so.

HangingOutAtTheRialto · 07/03/2026 10:19

He was attacked by another man who committed horrifying crimes. Killed a pregnant woman, amongst others. He wasn't some kind of hero doling out justice for victims.

People forget this. He's a scum bag himself. Not a hero

BertSymptom · 07/03/2026 10:35

I am generally very pro prison reform and prison for rehabilitation so I sort of get some of the comments here but for these kind of people and these kind of crimes? You could have all the procedures and resources in the world but if you’re locking the worst of the very worst in a prison together you’re going to have things like this happen. And I can’t say I’m saddened by this particular case.

If you don't want to be murdered in prison, perhaps don't go around murdering young girls?

There's so much wrong with your post, where do I start? We cannot have prisoners killing each other in this way. Something has gone very wrong or, worse, been encouraged in some way.

CurlewKate · 07/03/2026 10:08

I find the idea of a prison system so overstretched and underfunded that one prisoner can kill another completely shocking.

I think we disagree on almost everything so far, but on this we are firmly in agreement

There a difference between not wanting the death penalty and not wanting the state to try to hard to keep monsters alive.

clarepetal · 07/03/2026 10:36

Two wrongs don't make a right.

But I hope there is a hell and that he is rotting in it.

Yes. Most murders are spontaneous acts. The fact that the USA still has a huge murder rate despite having active death penalty states supports this.

Wowwhataworld · 07/03/2026 10:37

Strangely although he doesn’t deserve to live I feel he didn’t deserve to die either he should have suffered a long sentence because he has sentenced those family and friends for the rest of their lives. Almost feels like an easy out when they are murdered or die by suicide.
despite feeling like this I think in situations as disgusting as this the death sentence should be brought back and he should have felt the fear of being about to die just like those beautiful girls.

It's not a matter of funding. Happened to some famous criminals many decades ago. If you put wrong'uns in prison together they're going to do things like that. Especially if they're already facing a long sentence so they have nothing to lose.

Growlybear83 · 07/03/2026 10:38

Lemonfrost · 07/03/2026 10:33

Why would I be seeking vengeance for the murder if two young girls who I had never heard of before they were murdered? Their nursed was horrendous and carried out by a monster who has now finally received justice - nothing to do with vengeance.

Wellthisisdifficult · 07/03/2026 10:38

iceteababy · 07/03/2026 10:14

I 100% agree with this.

We should not have a system in which prisoners are able to harm each other, let alone murder each other.

It is not a cause for celebration that we do.

I think at the time of this heinous crime most people would have liked the Death Penalty for this poor excuse of a man. The justice most of the country wanted has been served. This man was so despicable, he was abhorred by murderers and paedophiles alike. I like a system when people like this live in fear and die in fear

HelloDenise · 07/03/2026 10:39

Hopefully we need never see his ugly mug on TV, papers or online again. I feel sorry for the girls' families having to look at that fizzog over the last few weeks.

Wolmando · 07/03/2026 10:31

I would never support the reintroduction of the death penalty because the justice system is not infallible. Just ask the Birmingham Six, Guildford Four, Broadwater Three, M25 "murderers" etc, and the likes of Judith Ward and Stefan Kiszko.

You can compensate people for being wrongly imprisoned, there's nothing you can do for people who've been wrongly executed.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 07/03/2026 10:39

Great news. Those poor, poor little girls and their families. I hope he suffered.

This.
Huntley had made several suicide attempts in prison, I think all his killer did was put him out of his misery. I'd have preferred him to live in misery for a very long time.

Quamarina · 07/03/2026 10:39

Feeling very sorry for Holly & Jessica’s families. I can’t possibly know their what their wishes were. But if it were for him to rot a long life behind bars, to serve the same life sentence as they have to forever without their daughters, then this has been taken from them, by just another scumbag who wasn’t doing it in the little girls honour whatsoever. I feel like he’s got off lightly, he was meant to do 40 years minimum, he was only slightly more than halfway through. No doubt they’ll have to deal with the press not-respectfully wanting a quote or an interview.

cleaningandclearing · 07/03/2026 10:40

I hope he descended very quickly to the depths of hell and he’s there, suffering for eternity

This isn't justice. We don't implement justice by having violent criminals murder each other.

igelkott2026 · 07/03/2026 10:41

I am not bothered that a toerag like him is dead. Like I said on the other thread, not only did he kill those poor girls and ruin so many lives of friends and family, he damaged society as well.

One less toerag for the taxpayer to fund. And the one who killed him is presumably in for life anyway, so had nothing to lose.

I do really feel for the staff having to deal with the evil men in that prison though - their families must always be worried about their safety.
