Susan Cadogan – Hurt So Good Lyrics | Genius Lyrics https://share.google/fXhmd5KSrhfJUNtnp

I just heard it and looked up the lyrics. Appalling.

That's s great song @Eyesopenwideawake , love Prince.

Not sure why you think it's shocking though... unless all mentions or implications of sex should be banned?

The video always makes me slide!!

In answer to your question I guess some might say he was fat shaming her and taking advantage of a woman desperate for attention. Yes, yes – me! me!!

I haven't seen the video... off to YouTube!

No need to ban songs. You either listen to them or you don’t. There are so many songs out there with questionable lyrics. Who gets to decide what to ban? Would it be put to a jury or panel or something? What if people are misunderstanding the lyrics and they should be interpreted allegorically rather than literally? Are we going to have a big bonfire of books while we’re at it? Slippery slope territory.

DISGUSTING!! where is Mary Whitehouse when we need her 🤣🤣🤣

Absolute banger of a tune though and guaranteed to fill a dance floor 🥰

You are not wrong, but the fact the Bee Gees wrote it does always make me feel a bit ick!

NotDavidTennant · 02/03/2026 16:22

Honestly, there are some MNers who would only approve of songs if the lyrics were:

You treat me right
And respectfully
And if you stopped treating me so well
Then I would leave
Ooh ooh baby

🤣🤣🤣

HappyFace2025 · 02/03/2026 17:14

And they followed it up with This Girl Is A Woman Now in 1969 ...

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 02/03/2026 16:08

I’ll throw in Young Girl from the late 60s

Also summertime by Mungo Jerry - there’s an ice cream van round here with that tune and it annoys me 🤣 DH makes himself scarce if we hear it as he knows there will be a rant incoming

They used to play Young Girl on Radio 2 a lot about 15 years ago, I always found it very uncomfortable. But I suppose it was perhaps older generation men dedicating it to their slightly younger but same generation wives? I hope anyway

He is literally saying 'You're too young, I thought you were older
(you even perhaps told me you were 'You led me to believe you're old enough to give me love and now it hurts to know the truth!')
and now I know you aren't, get out of my mind and go home to your Mum.

Other than perhaps the lyric 'get out of here before I have the time to change my mind/I'm afraid we'll go too far' being nebulously dubious (which I don't think is too problematic given he is literally saying 'Go away I don't want anything wrong to happen/I'm not comfortable with this situation so leave!' I don't see anything wrong with this song.

It's a good message arguably 'Guys, we can't mess around with young girls' in an era where plenty did (I know they still do but we have moved on from it being sometimes seen as okay).

JustGiveMeReason · 02/03/2026 17:31

You are being ridiculous OP, but I am wondering why you've suddenly picked on one particular song, which isn't especially famous, and, as others have said, is about 50 years old ?

pinkyredrose · 02/03/2026 17:34

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 02/03/2026 13:56

But why should it be banned though? Lots of media depicts stuff that isn't good behaviour, that doesn't mean we should ban it. There'd be very little left on TV if we banned all the serial killer dramas for a start!

Yep, i agree.

LeedsLoiner · 02/03/2026 13:42

You make me tremble when your hand moves lower
You taste a little then you swallow slower
Nature has a way of yielding treasure
Pleasure made for you, oh....

Get in the middle of a chain reaction
You get a medal when you're lost in action
I want to get your love all ready for the sweet sensation
Instant radiation
You let me hold you for the first explosion
We get a picture of our love in motion
My arms will cover, my lips will smother you
With no more left to say

Them Bee Gees always were a bit ropey 😂

Zov · 02/03/2026 17:38

Glad it wasn't just me who couldn't see anything wrong with this song! 😬

Whatever you do @HelloDenise do not, I repeat do NOT listen to 'My Neck, My Back' by Khia! 😱

Cobwebsofwisdom · 02/03/2026 17:01

I dont want want banned , but 'Stand by your man' sends a msg I don't like.

And don't listen to anything by early Eminem for God's sake, OP.

Anthrax on your tampax- Eminem.

WTF?! I have never heard of that one! 😂

intrepidpanda · 02/03/2026 17:43

Get a life and stop being so precious. If it offends you, switch it off.
I am not a fan of thd message in single ladies by Beyonce but not about to campaign for the banning of it (some women identify whether i agree or not)

Madisnttheword · 02/03/2026 17:46

At the rate of wanting to ban things, next thing it will be shampoo to stop bald people being offended. Getting absolutely ridiculous

Gary Puckett & The Union Gap
'Young Girl'

My all time favourite worst lyrics.

Beneath your perfume and your make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know
That it's wrong to be
Alone with me
That 'come on' look is in your eyes

Yes, a 'good message' there...

ICameUpWithThsNameMyself · 02/03/2026 18:36

Don’t get into country music or metal OP, you would really struggle. Personally, I found WAP utterly disgusting as it paraded to be about women’s sexual freedom even though it was really about pleasing a man. But it’s up to me not to listen to it or let my sons listen to it.

HelloDenise · 02/03/2026 18:38

2dogsandabudgie · 02/03/2026 16:25

I remember Lily Allen singing It's Not Fair on Saturday Night Takeaway, a family show. Wonder how many kids were singing along to that not knowing what the song was about.

That's not the same. It was observational and funny. Not tolerating crap to keep a man.

I love the tune to Summertime! My husband is always saying about how the song is about driving when drunk - err, no dear, it’s very clearly about using women for sex and treating them poorly! On an ice cream van is diabolical 😂

MrTwisterHasABlister · 02/03/2026 18:50

It’s a fucking great song though, top tune. Been on my Spotify playlist for donkeys.

MrThorpeHazell · 02/03/2026 18:55

We were more liberal back then (1973) OP. We did not believe in censorship the way you younger people seem to.

ImDuranDuran · 02/03/2026 19:24

The Jimmy Somerville version of this song is excellent.

Hadn’t heard it in years.
