A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I've just read that KS is planning to lean left to improve the govt's standing and is going to increase a raft of benefits 😡

No way. Although not surprised given McSweeney going. Starmer is exposed.

They really can't read the public mood, can they?

Im sure average joe can't wait to pay more tax.

Julen7 · 10/02/2026 16:04

Also more than 500 migrants arrived by boat last two days. More arrivals now under Starmer’s premiership than at any other time.

Great, let him tack hard left - doubtless in an attempt to placate his back benches, and to head off a future leadership challenge. Perhaps it’s the price Rayner extracted for her ‘loyalty’.

In any event, Starmer can only bribe the welfare crowd for so long.

The rest of us will simply not tolerate it, and will beat him over the head at the ballot box, and will otherwise do everything in our power to mitigate our exposure to this torrid, wretched, hateful ‘government’.

EasternStandard · 10/02/2026 16:46

I’m at let them do this left stuff too at this stage. Never ending threads on here for more benefits and higher taxes. Voters won’t want it and Labour will struggle more.

Sarahconnor1 · 10/02/2026 09:25

I suspect Starmer would be rather shocked if he spoke to members of the working class, because currently he knows nothing of their lives, concerns or hopes for the future

Labour has a very paternalistic, 'we know better' attitude to the working class. They dont want to listen, they want to lecture and it will come back to bite them on the arse.

Just watched Politics Live, well tried to! Jenny Chapman all smiley, what is the problem Keir is doing an excellent job, Mandelson? what about Nathan Gill? Whataboutery at its finest! Wes always puts kisses on messages to me too! 😳Well in all my years in business never put a kiss, or received one, on anything. Then Starmer’s speech ‘we have the most working class cabinet’ Maybe they do understand the working class? said with great sarcasm.

Is there anybody in the Labour Party who don’t live in fluffy bunny land?

Any way keep up the good work ladies, I read all the comments and this thread is brilliant.

Whereistheejectbutton · 10/02/2026 17:32

Think that is where politics is going to get very divided in the next 5 years, taxes are only going one way. Still wondering what’s caused the latest Burnham and Milliband telling Streeting and Sarwar to play nicely!

Burnham and Powell probably gaining gravitas to trounce Streeting in the next challenge…Streeting clearly being turned on do we think?

Chris Worwald Cabinet secretary, if the rumours are true, is about to lose his job. Im sure its all just a coincidence.

Just been reading about the sickening rape of a child by an Afghan migrant. Unless I've missed it, not a peep on this site.

Ah, yes. Convenient. I hadn't joined those dots.

I hope Kemi has Starmer's balls for this tomorrow.

We never get scandal about Welsh politicians. I guess they weren't thought important enough to set honey traps. Our Welsh press are more diffident perhaps.

Oh gosh this is so awful and just hearing about a 13 year old boy double stabbing in a classroom, with troubling details. So young just scary.

Covering this story too on Times Radio

Britain is “sleepwalking” into a worklessness epidemic with millions out of a job and on benefits, the boss of the nation’s biggest supermarket has warned.

Ashwin Prasad, Tesco’s UK chief, warned that economic growth was under threat because increasing numbers of Britons were choosing welfare over work.
Speaking at an event organised by the Resolution Foundation think tank in London, Mr Prasad said: “We have been sleepwalking into a quiet epidemic that is keeping millions of people out of work

DiySteve · 11/02/2026 05:37

FT

Sir Keir Starmer is currently too “weak” to sack leadership rival Wes Streeting, the UK prime minister’s allies have admitted, as an uneasy truce descended on the Labour Party.

The health secretary, suspected by Number 10 of being part of a coup attempt, has been forced to put his ambitions on hold, declaring on Tuesday that Starmer had his “full support”.

Starmer urged cabinet ministers to get on with their jobs and to bring an end to leadership speculation, which was sparked after Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar called on Monday for the prime minister to quit.

With tensions between Number 10 and Streeting running high, Starmer’s team said the aim now was to calm the situation and reach the relative safety of a House of Commons half-term recess, which starts on Thursday. “I don’t think he can sack Wes, I don’t think he has the strength to sack anyone right now,” said one Starmer ally. “He’s too weak.”

A member of Starmer’s team said: “Sacking Wes would just uncork even more political chaos of the kind we’re trying to avoid.” Streeting told reporters that Starmer had not threatened to sack him.

Kemi wins all four head to heads in a More in Common survey on who voters think would make the best PM.

Well done Kemi!

The silver lining to all this chaos is that if Labour do lurch to the left - as seems inevitable - the carnage which follows may make Kemi's sensible and well-thought-out approach more widely appealing. Less desire for 'change at any cost'!

I watched the clip where Andrew Neil asked Raynwrin opposition to explain what tax decisions she would make and how much it would bring, and she showed that she had absolutely no clue. No clue at all about what changes the Conservatives had brought in - or even what those taxes really were - let alone hoew much it would raise/cost to change them. He didn't even get as far as her understanding of unintended consequences - she clearly hadn't even thought through intended consequences!

All she knew was that she wanted MORE.

Some of the electorate - including some on here - might have the same blind, uncomprehending view and support her. But if it happens in reality, the shit will seriously hit the fan. I really don't want the hit we're going to take - but if it drives people back to safe Conservatives before the next election, perhaps there will be something left in the UK to rebuild with.
