A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I often say to people on here that the original reason for a secret ballot was that your boss, the mill master or whoever, couldn't accompany you into the booth and make sure you cast your vote in their favour.

until this by election, I must admit I didn't understand the problem with postal votes. My mum uses one because the last couple of elections, there's no guarantee that she'll be well enough to make it to the polling booth on the day. I was very silly not to think of it before - but now I get it.

But this is a Labour isn't working thread. So what party is working?

I don’t entirely follow.

But if you’re asking why Starmer and Labour won’t be any better off after a win in G&D the answers are (a) because they clearly will be hanging on to their 6th safest seat by their fingernails, so would have catastrophic results generally, and (b) because Starmer is the lowest ever polling PM and keeping him on is politically suicidal.

For Labour to lose their 6th safest seat might shake the party into some change and ditching Starmer would be a start. Depending on who they replace him with of course.

Possible Voter Fraud in 28 of the 32 Voting Stations with up to 12% of vote under suspicion from family collusion.
Preston Journalist a Youtube Blogger says Result Likely to be 6 AM and Winning party around 25-26%.

However, this By-Election should be re run as the result is not going to be reliable and open to suggestion of a result that is not representative or just.

Lord Hayward Pollster concerned by reports from impartial Democracy Volunteers about 'Family Voting'...

EmeraldRoulette · 27/02/2026 00:30

@redange you're probably up to speed

As far as I can see it is

family voting reported by observer group

Returning officer says didn't happen and concerns should've been raised during the day

Observer group says they did report it during the day.

So I'm quite lost.

I remember my late father talking a lot about election fraud in Tower Hamlets but I had a quick look online and I can't find much detail. Other than that, I don't remember hearing about problems with elections in the UK - another depressing thing we have to deal with I guess

I feel really sorry for the candidates. It seems the mechanism is that someone actually has to complain.

That doesn't seem right because who wants to be responsible for an election having to happen again? Surely there should be enough in the administration process for people to know whether or not that's necessary.

Honestly, I feel like I'm watching an episode of The Good Wife - they were a few that focused on this issue and it was actually quite annoying to watch. Now it's flipping happening.

redange · 27/02/2026 00:37

I think Returning Officers are very wary of saying anything due to the likely ethnic identity of those who may flout Election Rules. Such as Postal or in this case Family Voting. Therefore, I think these results are just accepted especially as traditionally any fraudulent voting in these type of constituencies favored the Labour Party ! The game has no changed, and we may see suddenly that Labour are not happy...

redange · 27/02/2026 00:38

The game has now changed and Labour may be the Victims.....

redange · 27/02/2026 00:41

Regarding the ethnic makeup of the area Gorton has 38% born outside the UK whereas Denton has only 6% which highlights Denton does not belong with Gorton and should be in Ashton Under Lyne Seat..

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 27/02/2026 00:43

Sky reporting high level Labour source conceding that the Greens have won.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/02/2026 00:48

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame I don't understand how they can concede so early

I feel as if you are up late! Normally I'm chatting to myself at this time 😂

redange · 27/02/2026 00:55

Hannah Spencer looks like she is just the type of people we want to be MP's. Somebody you would not vote to be Form Monitor in year 8 is going to be an MP. I suppose her maiden Speech could be about the social benefits of legalizing class A drugs and how we should prepare Primary School children to use 'Crack' safely...

This, is a disaster for the country and despite getting some satisfaction that Labour are likely to lose in Gorton and Denton . I would have preferred the slightly less worse Labour Candidate to win if Matt Goodwin who obviously was head and shoulders better than all of them. The Conservative candidate is wasting her time if she even turns up for the declaration...

redange · 27/02/2026 00:57

Hannah Spencer Type of Person (Midnight Grammar)...

EmeraldRoulette · 27/02/2026 01:00

@redange Re the Conservative candidate, I think if you're in the running you turn up to the count as a matter of professionalism

The one thing about the Greens (probably) winning is that it will might be a proper window into what they are like. It might be best to get that window before a general election.

no comfort to the people of G&D who didn't vote for them of course.

Also, she may not actually do anything. Although that's a worry because it might enable them to pick up more positive publicity...

Scary times.

It wasn’t an official concession. It was an off the record view.

redange · 27/02/2026 01:05

I know you turn up whatever your vote percentage I was active in Conservative Party politics in the North West in the 90's and 2000's. I was just being a bit flippant with my post. This being to suggest that I do not believe that there is anything Professional about how this election has been run from the start to the finish of the campaigns.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 27/02/2026 01:52

redange · 27/02/2026 01:30

Indeed. Labour has always said there’s no good evidence of voter coercion or fraud.

Postal voting needs some very careful scrutiny.

Labour really are stupid fuckers.

I understand

I suppose the good news is if the Greens get anywhere near power, I'll be able to get some sleeping pills... we'll probably all need heroin to knock ourselves out though 🤷🏻‍♀️

how is this the UK in 2026? 😱😱😭

“In a healthier society, our oh-so-anti-racist elites would be demanding to know why the Greens were fuelling anti-Jewish and anti-Hindu sentiment, and whether extremism and bigotry may be festering among sections of the local community, deserving urgent intervention. Yet the establishment finds it easier to treat swathes of our urban areas as if they were an 1920s imperial outpost where administrators are tasked with keeping a superficial peace between communities, rather than pursuing justice."

Allister Heath bang on the money in the Telegraph:

The sectarianism and voter fraud are definitely the most important thing about the G&D by-election. If they get a useless MP - meh. They voted for her, and it's only for 3 years.

But it's a serious warning about how our democracy is being destroyed as we watch.

It's also a very worrying example of how the new Greens are engineerng their rise, through populism and sectarianism. If this progresses badly, this one will surely be in the history books.

The only silver lining is that this warning has come 3 years before the general election. That should theoretically give enough time to make significant changes around not only voter fraud but also hate speech and extremism by political parties snd candidates. And at least start to address sectarianism and poor integration of communities whose main self-identity and loyalty is not 'British'.

The UK has changed, and if we want to protect our society we must act fast and with clarity and determination. I wish I thought our government was up to the challenge.

I really think that it’s a case of prepare for the worse, now. The clarity and determination that you seek, is well beyond the ability of the UK’s politicians IMO - that much is clear.

The Greens won by shape-shifting and pandering to the Muslim vote - sectarianism and increasing polarisation is the future. Some may say that’s overly pessimistic, whilst I maintain it’s simply observational pragmatism.

Starmer, if he survives, will now be compelled to move further to the left.

EasternStandard · 27/02/2026 06:57

Wow woke up to the Greens winning. Incredible. Labour’s claim they had it was off.

Hannah was a good choice as a candidate tbf

Labour third!

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 27/02/2026 00:43

Sky reporting high level Labour source conceding that the Greens have won.

Amazing that’s pretty early.

I agree Labour will try to shift left and look for ‘core values’ etc

13000 majority loss, they’ll panic if the local elections are the same. Rolling out excuses now. The locals will put it up them.

They are so bad. They deserve it.

Pointofsingularity · 27/02/2026 07:11

Well, if as Starmer stated, G&D was ‘a battle for the nations soul’, he’s well and truly fucked.

Can he please be ‘Frank Bough’ now?

Upstartled · 27/02/2026 07:12

If that was Labour's sixth safest seat and they are limping in at third with a 25.3% drop in support since the general election, then is there even such a thing as a Labour safe seat anymore?

Is that enough for the fifth or fourth safest seat?

I suppose we can find out what that looks like on a bigger scale come the local elections. But I do find the rise of the Greens a worrying omen.

EasternStandard · 27/02/2026 07:13

Gosh the interview this morning is woeful. I think they’re just despised and can’t speak in a way that can’t stop that.

It’s always arrogance, always self preservation.

EasternStandard · 27/02/2026 07:19

.. That can stop that
