A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Hello Placemats. Thank you for posting and giving your account. I appreciate contributions like yours.

I don't understand your post or point. I'm genuinely not trying to be snarky.

I live in Cheshire. In a constituency that has a Labour MP. Very happy about that as well.

I support the removal of the charitable status on private schools. My father, RIP, probably would disagree.

My point is that you live in one of the most affluent areas of the country, surrounded by stunning green landscape. Your family are clearly wealthy, and you have a private education.
You are everything Labour are against, yet you vigorously support them.

@TheNuthatch is it that surprising ? Champagne socialists ? I know many people who are wealthy and want to close the draw bridge on others.
Edited to add ; not saying that's you placemat.

As an aside did anyone in their wildest dreams ever think starmers gov could be so sleezy and plummet the depths that it has ?

EasternStandard · 26/02/2026 19:30

Tbf pp aside Labour does have a few wealthy supporters on mn in particular. Usually in older age groups.

Pointofsingularity · 26/02/2026 19:32

@placemats

I second the thanks for your contribution.

Genuine Q - you still support Labour, despite everything that has ‘befallen’ them since they entered government? If so, why?

That's not me at all. With all due respect.

Have you ever been to Crewe or Winsford? I don't live in either of those places, but they are close to me. There's an lot of rural poverty as well.

I've lived and worked in London. I totally understand poverty pockets within seemingly affluent areas.

No, you're right. I shouldn't be surprised and should have ignored.

DH and I come from nothing, worked hard and did well for ourselves. Yet others (born with a silver spoon) want to pull the ladder up.

Let's get the warm feeling regarding Labour achievements. Workers and renters rights. Improvements in the NHS; doctors, nurses, and appointments. New energy bill and a 7% saving this year for all households. Closer ties to the EU economically, which substantially benefits small business. All great achievements within two years. If I was a millionaire I'd be very happy.

I most certainly was not born with a silver spoon. I was born in a council house the sixth child.

My parents worked hard and had the good fortune of a substantial inheritance.

I’m not quite there with the pro Labour on the thread. I hope they do badly at G&D.

Given the polls it's obviously either Reform or the Green Party.

Oh no! You’ve moved on to Labour propaganda.

Which is fine as it happens. All parties’ supporters repeat the mantras.

But Starmer’s on the way out, despite these ‘colossal’ ‘achievements’, don’t you think?

TheNuthatch · 26/02/2026 19:53

I don't have the patience for visitors tonight. Enjoy ladies, back in a bit.

@Julen7 Results expected at approx 3am.
You were right about all the boats in the channel yesterday. Another 605 people needing bed and board.

I have to pick DD up soon, will be driving through G&D. Will check for beavers, eagles and pine martens and report back later. 😁

😆 Thanks for making me laugh.

edited to say laughing about the pine martens, not the boat arrivals.

In the nicest possible way, it would be easy to counter every point you have made, and then some - with real world/current experience - not simply as a MN keyboard commando. A number of us on this thread can do so.

I rather suspect that some of the previously pro-Labour cohort are struggling to defend them now, and are more anti-reform, than pro-Labour.

Is this the Green Party thread in disguise 🥸
