A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Councillor defects from Labour to Reform.

🐀 leaving the sinking 🚢

Is that the "well known Labour figure" Farage was promising?

You still haven't answered my question as to who you want to win?

Labour ha a huge majority in Parliament. No worries 😁

Yes and no.

They have a majority but they cannot govern because their backbenchers sabotage everything.

Oh and in European elections for MEPs, remember them? I've voted Green as well as Labour because it was proportional representation. Both got through.

Err, no. Its a councillor as my pp clearly stated.

Wow, you lot are nervous tonight.

Are you reading the room?

That is the problem. 400+ MPs and Starmer is held to ransom by them. It’s all about how many back the PM - who is after all just one of them; he has only a party status, not a publicly elected status - and it seems hardly any do back him. Unless they have ministerial salaries and cars. How very sad.

But you would be happy for the Greens to win?

And I don't want Labour to win, yet I'm not spending my evening gate crashing pro Labour threads.

Seems i have missed all the fun ! I have no problem with Essex it is just I 'grew up' in North Cheshire from 1992-2017 as regular posters will know (despite clever dicks telling me Keele University is in Staffordshire and is not in Stoke but is in Newcastle Under Lyme).

Regarding, AESG (Alderley Edge School for Girls) This did not exist until 2000 when Mount Carmel Catholic, 'Non Catholic' wealthy Cheshire girls (current building) merged with St Hilary's school up on the hill which in 2003 became luxury Apartments current value between £800K- 1.2M . I have friends from both Schools ! If I had not been 'dragged' down to Essex and my girls had not passed 11+ exams for Manchester High, Withington or moved to Trafford I could now be having to move DD'2 to Kings which I have never liked....

Apparently, Manchester High is offering places, according to another thread which means they are struggling, hence giving places to lower caliber pupils. Serious, situations are being created in the Independent School system . I am also concerned that the Private School DS is moving to in September 'repeating' year 10 will be still open !

A bit of a rant...

Unless, there is a major shock I think the Greens are going to win tonight in Gorton and Denton.. The Green party have been targeting non native English Speakers in an English Parliamentary Seat, which twenty years ago or so would be material for Not the Nine O Clock comedy type show !

They are prone to a bit of ‘Dutch’ courage, that’s for sure.

Meanwhile, Lammy has apparently been knocking on doors in G&D.

I would happily tell him he had my vote, just to get rid of the mug…

And yet you think I'm staunch Labour and aren't in the least bit interested in my posts at all. On the other thread.

The polls are calling it incredibly tight. Them's the odds. The conversation so far is civilised. Fair play.

Really? Lammy’s been sent door knocking for the by-election? Does he understand where he’s supposed to be? I shall expect to see him at my door any moment now, 170 miles away.

You mean he hasn’t been sent out as a Labour foot soldier to drum up votes? I’m not surprised.

redange · 26/02/2026 21:34

I can't imagine David Lammy has ever been further than Watford Gap Services before. Hence, probably asking if he needed a 'Visa' to enter Gorton And Denton. What a terrible visitor, the last time he dared to travel to Manchester being a the Synagogue incident in Heaton Park where he was less popular than Arsenal would be if they win the League at the Etihad..

It is tight. And as I’ve said on this thread over a few days I do think Labour might hold the seat. But even if Labour do hang on I doubt that will do Starmer or the party any longer-term good. It is likely to make everything worse for them. Cauterising would be a much better result.

Edited

But this is a Labour isn't working thread. So what party is working?

Election observers report 'Record' number of Family Voting observed . (People entering the Polling Booth together and likely marking the ballot paper themselves )

Perhaps the By-Election result might be Void !

Hey, I was just about to say this myself

presumably they can approach these people straight away and say that's not allowed?
