To NOT like the evenings stretching...

I absolutely adore the dark nights and love it when the clocks go back in October, love driving home from work in the dark. Love lying in bed all cozy at 7pm looking up at the big, bright moon. Love being at home in the warm or going for a night walk and looking at everyone's Halloween decorations.

I don't like the lighter evenings! I find it harder to sleep, feel like I should be doing more or that everyone is doing something sociable and interesting. All the twats come out getting drunk in their gardens or blasting their shit music out and motorbikes revving about everywhere.

Fuck the light evenings... leave me in the winter!

Do you not have curtains / blinds in your bedroom !

edit. Totally agree about summer noise , it’s so much quieter in winter

Orangesandlemons77 · 07/02/2026 21:28

I guess you could draw the curtains and pretend but that wouldn't stop the noise!

CatsMcGoo · 07/02/2026 21:31

Me too! Especially hate how the summer evenings trick me into thinking it’s earlier than it is. Much prefer when it’s so dark your brain thinks it’s 8pm but turns out it’s only 5.30 😂

MidnightPatrol · 07/02/2026 21:31

Are you going to bed at 7pm then?

IWantNiceNeighbours · 07/02/2026 21:32

Yes I do close the blinds... but I still KNOW it's light outside!

Why are you in bed at 7pm?

I get into bed about that time yes usually, but not to sleep. Just listening to soft music or reading a book etc. I'm a very early riser so not unusual for me to fall asleep at 9pm

Yes. It makes me sad that the evenings are getting lighter. Nights that are cold and dark are best for sleeping.
The summer is so tiring.

Single adult living alone?

I suppose the long evenings are more tolerable if you can just get into bed and read a book for two hours.

I have spent the last few weeks transporting small children inc baby on foot in the pitch black and pouring rain every evening. Yay.

Ladybugheart · 07/02/2026 21:38

Oh god I hate everything you have described and am loving the nights getting lighter at last.

frecklejuice · 07/02/2026 21:39

Summer days/evenings are so long! I love it when it’s dark at 4pm and you can stay home all cosy. I just wish the rain would stop!

100% agree. I hate autumn and winter with every fibre.

JM88Jen · 07/02/2026 21:42

I am the same. I struggle in the heat during summer too. Love nothing more than getting home from work and getting in pjs 🤣

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 07/02/2026 21:48

can I ask why does it matter if everyone else is doing something sociable and interesting. Do you want to do something sociable and more interesting, does it make you feel less comfortable with going to bed at 7? Are you maybe bored or lonely?

IWantNiceNeighbours · 07/02/2026 21:49

There was a thread on here about four months ago with summer lovers complaining about dark nights and I felt smug as fuck. I ain't giggling now! It's your turn to be smug!

Not bored or lonely! Happily anti social... but for some reason in the summer it just makes me feel a bit guilty! I don't really know why. Social pressures I suppose, although you're right it doesn't matter what other people are doing so long as I'm happy!

You could turn this to your advantage though OP. You know all those north facing houses with leylandii hedges that nobody can sell? You could buy yourself one of those really cheaply and it would suit you down to the ground.

I do know what you mean about the peace and cosiness, candles and snug by 4.30pm thing. I love it too. The outdoors is so empty in winter too.

YelramBob · 07/02/2026 21:54

What temperatures and dawn and dusk times would everyone prefer?

I'd like:

6.30am dawn
20.00 dusk

15c minimum winter
22c maximum summer

Rain but only during the night 👌

summergin · 07/02/2026 21:57

Aw can’t lie I’m the complete opposite I hate getting up in the dark driving to work in the dark then coming home in the dark, l like it when we are at the stage it’s dark about 2000/2030 it just gives me the feeling the full day isn’t work having a few hours of light once I get home

LyndaSnellsSniff · 07/02/2026 21:57

I too love a dark, cosy early evening. However, DH struggles with winter so, for his sake, I'm relieved longer days are coming.

I loathe extreme heat and here, in SE England, we have lots of summer heat. I tend to look at it as something to get through before I can happily snuggle back into autumn! Of course, I'll be happy but DH will be miserable all over again.

I'm the same . The lighter evenings make me feel as if I should be doing more, even though I don't want to.

Same here. Happily antisocial. Love to rest and spend time with my own thoughts.
Hate Spring and Summer.

Pretty close to this but I'd like it dark by 7 every day please and colder at night. 10 maximum at night year round. And quite happy with freezing temps in winter if we get actual snow.

IWantNiceNeighbours · 07/02/2026 22:25

I'd like... light by 5am so I can enjoy my crack of dawn walk in the woods. Pitch black and a starry moonlit sky by 5pm! Perfect.

And me!

Light nights have too many expectations as well.

Cosy, dark, candles. If I could hibernate, I would as soon as the clocks change in March until they go back in October.
