Vance at the speed skating with his children, he likes to use them as shields.

He may actually be fond of them; some of the nastiest fascists have been fond of (at least their own) children. One of the aberrant things about Trump is his only interest in only one of his children apparently being sexual in nature, and him not caring at all about any of the others unless he can use them.

I don't think he really needs shields. I really don't think many people care enough.about him to wish him dead anyway. It's not like Elon Musk who is genuinely rich and powerful in his own right. Vance is sort of powerful but only in proximity to Trump and Thiel.and he is very replaceable (vice presidents are).

I want to believe he cares about his children but he is more than happy to throw them (and his wife) under a bus to appease the more racist elements of his supporters. I don't think he loves them enough to stand up for them.

Another thing Trump has in common with Mao. Although in the case of Mao, it was a step daughter he protected/promoted.

Mao also done the thing with making attractive women "special advisors", though not to the same extent as Trump. Communism v Capitalism ideology likely played a part.
