To answer your question in the last thread, @AcrossthePond55 it's anywhere between 6 and 10, depending on who is asking, who is answering and who is listening.

Mr Tiddles is really sweet and this comes from a non cat lover!

@Spandauer Thx for thread 😊

A federal judge has temporarily blocked the deportation of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his father.

In his order, Judge Fred Biery told the federal government that it could not move the boy or his father out of his court's jurisdiction while they challenged their detention.

goodness - hope for a really really slow thread

Re the Tweet that Linehan re-tweeted.

"He died doing what he love the most: trying to prevent rapists and pedophiles from being arrested."

To me, this just shows how effective the Republican propaganda is. Because even if "normal" news was to fact check this ( DHS say the same), they would be accused of supporting sex offenders.

But I will tackle it, again.

ICE ARE NOT A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATVE UNIT.

They are not turning up to a city, cruising around in their unmarked SUVs, spotting offenders of unsolved/ unreported sex crimes, arresting, investigating, going through court to get a conviction, then deporting them. All in two weeks.

No, they are taking people already with convictions, already with deportation orders, OUT of the jails they are already in. Then they take them to the border AND SET THEM FREE.

Under the normal system, these "worst of the worst" are already being deported, at the end of their sentence. ICE are actually whisking them away to early freedom'

Imagine what that must do to the victims.

This is a lie that does make my piss boil. Because in their quest for quotas and good headlines for Trump, they are wrecking the existing system that is keeping these bad folk where they should be... in Jail. ( Or in the judicial system).

WTAF? How can this be legal?

(Thanks for the new thread, @Spandauer!)

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 28/01/2026 16:14

I just put the TV on, Sky News, and it's Trump again. It's so fucking tedious it's like nothing can go on on the planet without him either being at the centre of it or shoehorning himself into the centre of it.
I'd like a Trump-free zone. A bigly bigly one!

RedTagAlan · 28/01/2026 16:17

Meanwhile, on the Sky News feed :

"I'm inside the Andrew W Mellon auditorium, a couple of miles from the White House, awaiting the president's arrival.

He's due here late morning for the launch of the "Trump Accounts", an investment scheme whereby the government deposits $1,000 for every child born between 2025 & 2028."

Cool, he is giving out free money.

Deposited where I wonder ?

No one is stopping him.

Trump, and his ilk exist in a world where the only right is might. The US constitution was a weak attempt to rein that philosophy in. However as that was fatally flawed even before it was signed, it's fair to say Americas original sin is (once again) corrupting the mortal body of the state.

Over the years I have been chided by many Americans for remarking that the constitution isn't (a) what they think it is and (b) worth as much as they think it is.

These are so disgusting. They're funded mostly by Michael Dell and some other pals of his.

If Biden's student loan amnesty was overturned by the SC, surely this is not different? It discriminates against people born in any other years.

Do we think that's why the Vances decided to have another?

Every child ?
Or every citizen ?

The two are not the same and the answer could save a lot of money ....

You can't force the Supreme Court to act. If they don't then it's OK.

DuncinToffee · 28/01/2026 16:28

The Vance's having another baby?, I hoped she would divorce him.

AcrossthePond55 · 28/01/2026 16:38

@RedTagAlan From the website:

What will the money be invested in?

Funds will be invested in a diversified portfolio of low-cost index funds designed to maximize long-term growth while minimizing risk.

https://www.trumpaccounts.gov

In other words, they aren't freely 'giving' $1000. These are IRAs so there are limits on when they can be touched prior to age 59 without taxes or penalties.

They* are investing the money in the stock market in their chosen funds (focusing on 'American Companies) 'for' the child, with all the risk (and benefit) that entails. Parents are of course 'encouraged' to add money to the account but it's not mandatory. I think but am not sure that at some point the parents can transfer the money into an 'approved institution'. Whether they can transfer it into an IRA savings account or if they have to leave it in some kind of market-based investment account I have no idea.

*The 'trustees' for the fund will be selected by the Dept of Treasury. No idea who they are. This is all set to 'go live' in mid-2026.

ETA: The child must be a US citizen to qualify for the 'seed money'. "All U.S. children under 18 with a valid Social Security Number are eligible to establish a Trump Account. Parents or legal guardians can open and manage accounts on behalf of their children" <qualifying dates: born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028>

There is no bar to a non-citizen parent opening this type of account for a US born child. That should be interesting.

Sounds oddly like a scam. I wonder if the funds will go through the new Qatari account

Even so I think we should each take a few minutes every day to meditate on a mental image of him swinging from a lamppost.

Looks like a lot of people are going to be in trouble....e.g.Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan.

Signal chats have reportedly been used in Minnesota to coordinate rapid responses to ICE activity and alert or deploy anti-ICE agitators, according to multiple reports.

Independent journalist Cam Higby has published screenshots and descriptions of Signal chats he says were used to share ICE vehicle locations and coordinate additional agitators.

Reports Link Signal “Rapid Responder” Chats To Violent Rioters In Minneapolis

Reports say encrypted Signal chats helped mobilize rioters and track agents before a fatal Minneapolis shooting, raising new questions.
