I cannot eat things if my head strongly correlates it with the animal that died. Venison and rabbit are examples. Plus, rabbit taste horrible. I know because my mum (think Ria from Butterflies) once attempted to feed us 'chicken'. We were not fooled, mother.

Rabbit is nice.

Completely unavailable near me. I gave up after 12 different "local butchers" (you know - the ones you are always advised to support because they know their stuff). Even Sainsburys have ostrich steaks FFS.

And you try and find wild boar.

I really should take a trip into the heart of town to look for some mutton and/or goat one day.

I had venison chilli a couple of weeks ago at Tatton Park. The deer are culled on the land and butchered locally. All very sustainable and delicious.

ETA the farm shop is fantastic for sustainable locally butchered meat.

Sweet potato wedges? It is mashed potatoes weather, not sure that goes with burgers.

Burgers are just flat meatballs and mash and onion gravy would be bloody lovely, today

placemats · 05/02/2026 16:36

I had a Camembert, parnsip and mushroom pie with mash and onion gravy last night! It's Baltic here in Cheshire.

Eta the pies were frozen from Aldi.

LlttledrummergirI · 05/02/2026 16:41

I'm doing one chicken and ale pie, and one mushroom and ale pie tonight.

I'm hoping to anyway, currently making it up as I go along.

tobee · 05/02/2026 16:42

Why not chips? Chips goes with everything!

cardibach · 05/02/2026 16:50

I have a portu9n of a chickpea and coconut curry I batch cooked a while ago. I should do rice but I may have it with fresh bread and butter…

Karistyleaftea · 05/02/2026 16:58

We had sprouts last night with cottage pie, peas and a couple of frozen yorkshire puddings.
The crunch was very satisfying with that "soft" texture meal.
DH lightly boils the brussels, just a couple of mins with the peas, then roasts them off in the oven.

cardibach · 05/02/2026 17:03

Sorry @Karistyleaftea . You can’t sell me on sprouts however sneakily prepared.

Karistyleaftea · 05/02/2026 17:06

Ok @cardibach I tried.
DH does not really like root veg (I love them all ) and hates beetroot .
Vive la difference !

PickAChew · 05/02/2026 17:07

I had a waitrose delivery today so I'm looking forward to a prick with a fork curry for dinner.

DS2 has just found a picture on the website of the "no-one" salmon we had on Christmas eve. He hasn't told me about it for at least 6 hours 🙄

It's raining, most squirrels are in hiding.

Team GB is doing well in the curling

Was a bit worried we might throw it away last night. Have been at work all day so haven’t watched today’s. We should be ok against Estonia.

Rabbit takes me back to the British Steel strike in 1980 when DF was out for weeks and weeks and DM made us amazing food on a budget. She was brilliant at it. But we kids drew the line at the rabbit that mysteriously came DFs way.

Just remember you can't live on rabbit alone.

We used to eat rabbit stew as students. It’s tasty and high protein/low fat. Ypu just have to get past Watership Down and Thumper.

Fuck sake! Are we surprised though? (No, of course not). Am sure all the right wing press will be fanfaring this story and apologising for what they said previously, right?

This is attached story that didn't post:

making me look a right numpty.

🙄
It's the bit about Trump's new opinion on Chagos deal.

Wtf? 🤣🤣🤣

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/02/2026 18:18

I assume he has suddenly realised Starmer is in trouble and if he goes there’s a chance that any new deal doesn’t allow them to rent Diego Garcia. Especially if the Tories and Reform stick with their current policy of not wanting to give them away and definitely not wanting to pay any money.

Not sure why he’s bothered. Neither of them can stick to a policy promise.

PandoraSocks · 05/02/2026 18:20

Gove thinks Starmer will be around for a while longer. Rayner can't challenge yet due to HMRC not finished. Streeting is tainted by Mandelson. Mahmood essentially too right wing for the grassroots. Cooper a contender.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/02/2026 18:21

Let it be known that I will never allow our presence on a base as important as this to ever be undermined or threatened by fake claims or environmental nonsense.

Environmental nonsense like rising sea levels. Ok King Cnut.
