Thanks, Dunc.

I was going to make my tax a picture of an ICE protest in NJ I drove by but it's a bit too identifying.

Cat is in hiding from the world.

BIWI · 25/01/2026 11:18

Thanks for the new thread. No recent cat tax, so here’s some French tax instead. Pre-Christmas trip to Toulon.

Cat tax taken at the local Vets, or should that be tak tax?

Thanks for the new thread @DuncinToffee

I am not AB

Andy Burnham blocked from standing in the Gorton and Denton byelection. Of nine voting members on NEC group was 8-1 against him.

Pleased to see you are clearly identifying yourself now

Was just about to post that NEC decision could come as early as today

That's a pretty clear result

DuncinToffee · 25/01/2026 12:04

😅Efacsen

I was just reading that NEC have a strong reason for blocking:

Burnham would have to walk out on a Combined Authority Mayoral job he was elected to less than two years, triggering by far the largest by-election in British history

Thanks as always Duncin. Tax in tribute to my dad’s working class roots.

Quick PMK

Spandauer · 25/01/2026 12:09

Thanks for the new thread.

As a LP member, I have a lot of time for AB but would have preferred for him not to have put himself forward at this time. Hopefully the media won't spend days picking over the NEC decision. (Fat chance)

Cat tax: not drinking tea but she will definitely have a little think after slurping my glass of water!

Was she hoping for gin @Spandauer?

Yes it would seriously deplete the Labour party coffers. I took can understand the reasons for the block.

Bev Craig, Manchester council leader, and Julie Reid executive member of the council are touted as potential nominees, according to Labourlist.

Just came to post this.

Love the “I’m NOT AB” statement. 🤣

Thanks for new thread too. No tax I’m afraid but I’ll endeavour to take a photo of something interesting this week and pay my dues!

My favourite sign at a march…

Best result for Burnham on national stage I think. Suggests he’s up for it. But meanie Starmer-ites blocked him. Keeps his powder dry. Long game and ‘fresh face, clean hands’ for next election possibly.

Spending a million pounds on an unnecessary mayoral election doesn’t seem like the best use of cash right now.

BIossomtoes · 25/01/2026 12:19

Best result for Burnham but it won’t do Starmer any favours. It makes him look frit.

Spandauer · 25/01/2026 12:19

Given the state of the world at the moment I think I was willing it to be neat vodka!

DuncinToffee · 25/01/2026 12:22

I saw some comments that this will pave the way for Rayner after the May elections.

Thanks for the new thread. I am just listening to the AB news. I suspected a block but I am not sure it’s the right thing… I was a bit torn over the issue but I think he has the comms that Starmer doesn’t and Starmer has the statesman stance. Together in gov they may have worked..

See i don't get this. It is media driven hype.

Labour majority is so big that there doesn't need to be an election.
The world is in turmoil currently so it would be danaging to the country to have a leadership battle.
Starmer is not doing a bad job of steering us through choppy waters.

Even if Burnham stood as an mp and was elected, there is no guarantee of a cabinet position, or that a change of leader would be called for.

I have a headache this morning, what am I missing?

PickAChew · 25/01/2026 12:40

Afternoon. No tax again. I have snow drops in my garden but it's cold, damp and windy so you will just have to imagine them 😁

itsgettingweird · 25/01/2026 12:45

Me and ds went to the supermarket.

Driving home and I commented

“gosh - its actually quite windy today”

DS: “that’s about the only use for those flags flying. Other than that the are completely pointless”. 🤣

He reassures me of our future everyday with his political stance.

it’s safer not to get him started on ICE and Trump 😉

Where’s Angela used to be in housing in all this ? Can’t she run ?
