Where’s Angela used to be in housing in all this ? Can’t she run ?

She's already an MP.

MaybeNotBob · 25/01/2026 12:58

I think Burnham would have been stupid to run for leader now. That would have given the RW meedja too long to pull him down. If he's going to be the new leader it should be just before the next election so he can get the favourable bounce, otherwise he would just end up losing.

Does anyone else here think this is all (as my DM would say) a put-up job ?

Much like the Reeves budget tax rises bollocks.

The only place I have read anything about AB doing this or doing that is "the media".

For Mayor

Why would she want to do that?

I don't think it's the right time for AB.

Andy Burnham is very fond of himself. Him and his big lashes.

placemats · 25/01/2026 15:49

"Anderson, whose party now has two seats on the council, added: "We are surging in almost every opinion poll."

He added:

"Why anyone would want to jump to the Tories, I am not sure. It's a bit like buying a golden ticket to the Titanic knowing it's going to hit the iceberg."

I'm in agreement with Anderson, councillor for Reform. Tories and Reform are indeed the thin edge of the iceberg.

thanks for the new thread!
I agree it’s not the right time for a) a leadership challenge or b) Burnham. He’s had a couple of goes and failed. Perhaps he’s not right for the role.

Cat tax of Perdy enjoying my heated throw (as was I).

The lib dems proposal on war bonds is interesting. I can't see the USA getting it's sanity back any time soon and we need to fund defence.

Also: after his shenanigans over Brexit, gifting, lying, cheating and weak reaction to Trump's disrespect of our war dead, I'm already debating how to campaign against Reform in the next election.

I reckon Labour will come unstuck (their comms are terrible) and the Tories need amothe few years in the wilderness to come back with a fresh cohort of electable MPs. Lib Dems could be an interesting one.

Sorry, but given you'd need to involve "the city" in any sort of bond shenanigans then the chances of a grift attack would be too much.

Much better to buy gold. (Did anyone hear that the Germans want their gold from the US Federal Reserve back ? On the basis it's closer to Russia in Washington that it will be in Berlin).

PandoraSocks · 25/01/2026 16:01

Well there will be a load of fuss for the next few days. Non-Labour supporters seem furious and rather over-invested! Why do they care?

pointythings · 25/01/2026 16:02

I am trying to avoid the news. Pucked DDup from her birthday bash (hosted by a friend) and she has brought back cake!

My cats are not enjoying the weather, they stay in the catio for 10 minutes max and then yell to be let back in.

The cat tower is really not big enough for three but they don't care.

Indeed @PandoraSocks

Alexandra2001 · 25/01/2026 17:12

Pleased he's been blocked, all it would is cause a great deal of division and a gift horse to the opposition.

They'll stir the pot of course, whatever the NEC decision but thats on Burnham, he had his chance.

People within Labour should shut up now.

Alexandra2001 · 25/01/2026 17:15

I'd buy war bonds, let NS&I handle them, money straight to the Govt.

Babcock in Plymouth are booming, 1000s of jobs and apprenticeships across Plymouth, Bristol and Rosyth.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 25/01/2026 17:25

Tbh whether I think it was the right time or not for AB I thinking blocking him from standing will do a bit of damage too. There are already people stirring this pot and whether it gets to boiling point or quietly simmers is yet to be seen.
The by election will be interesting
