Welcome to our long running thread for political discussion, general chat, a friendly hug and taxes in kind.

What do you mean?

Thought my post was clear - just an observation that a lot of new (or name changed) user accounts are popping up creating new threads with a very strong anti-Labour bias.
Don't know about anyone else but I was on MN for quite a while before I actually started a thread (and then it was about cats 😹).

I suppose I'm just surprised that someone joins MN simply to start a thread ranting about politics as I really wouldn't have thought that MN was the obvious platform for it.

Don't be so disingenuous.

Come now, don’t be like that.

Surely the increased traffic is in direct correlation to the mess Starmer has made for himself.

Tell me you can see that.

Notonthestairs · 05/02/2026 15:25

Its very similar to what happened after the riots in the 2024.
Lots of new names popping up.

Ah, so ordinary people who are pissed off with Starmer suddenly decide the best thing to do is join MN and start a thread? Of course, that'll be it.

Fantastic for MN - all the new traffic.

Should boost their valuation during the sales process.

They must be happy.

So your logic about their thought process is...
Bloody hell I don't like the current government. I know what, I'll join MN and start a thread about it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Here’s a thought.

Why not engage and ask them?

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2026 15:36

It's raining, most squirrels are in hiding.

Team GB is doing well in the curling

How do you know we aren't?

PandoraSocks · 05/02/2026 15:36

Not engaging is often the best policy. I need to remember that...

PandoraSocks · 05/02/2026 15:38

I am having venison bugers for tea. What should I have with them? Not chips.

Have to hold my hands up and admit I don't watch the winter olympics.
Not even the highlights. Not my milieu.

DuncinToffee · 05/02/2026 15:40

Sweet potato wedges? It is mashed potatoes weather, not sure that goes with burgers.

On that basis I present you with another Estonian red squirrel picture.

I made celeriac chips a couple of nights ago. Recommended.

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats

And they called it fluffy love 🥰

I'm reminded of this cartoon.

Sounds good as do sweet potato wedges. I have neither in though and don't fancy braving the rain. Might have to go with some boring old roast potatoes. And sprouts stir fried with lemon and chilli (apologies in advance to @cardibach for the mention of the s word).

Excellent choice - the UK should eat more venison.

Jacket potato ? Dauphinoise ?

Bed of tag/spag with olive oil and chilli dusted with parmesan ?

placemats · 05/02/2026 15:48

I love parsnips chips. But potato wedges with smoked paprika. A blue cheese sauce as well. @PandoraSocks

Ooh. I have some smoked paprika in. Might give that a go, thanks.

Dauphinoise would be nice, but no cream. I like the pasta idea too.

Piggywaspushed · 05/02/2026 16:14

I cannot eat things if my head strongly correlates it with the animal that died. Venison and rabbit are examples. Plus, rabbit taste horrible. I know because my mum (think Ria from Butterflies) once attempted to feed us 'chicken'. We were not fooled, mother.

pointythings · 05/02/2026 16:22

I don't like sweet potatoes or parsnips so am seconding wedges. DD makes wicked seasoned wedges.

I am really looking forward to watching the speed skating!
