🚨 NEW: The Government has announced 58,500 illegal migrants have now been removed or deported since Labour came to office - the highest in 10 years

According to FT Republicans have already been over to talk to Reform representatives regarding spending US dollars 💵 to highlight ‘American values’

Idiots. Don’t they realise they’ve been doing that for free already?

I dont think its been for free. I suspect they will want their money back - possibly in the form of deregulation (Online Safety, food, pharma etc)

Shame we can't see the funding for certain think tanks.

Certainly that would be useful if representatives of those think tanks are platformed on TV.

Thought my post was clear - just an observation that a lot of new (or name changed) user accounts are popping up creating new threads with a very strong anti-Labour bias.
Don't know about anyone else but I was on MN for quite a while before I actually started a thread (and then it was about cats 😹).

I suppose I'm just surprised that someone joins MN simply to start a thread ranting about politics as I really wouldn't have thought that MN was the obvious platform for it.

Consider that the public are incensed enough to feel the need to comment and communicate their frustration at this current government. We should celebrate public engagement over apathy, surely.

Keir Starmer does not connect with the majority of the UK public, who at boiling point and are using platforms such as MN to express their concerns.

I think it is a good thing!

Ynys Gybi result (bolding is for the benefit of the twp). 33% turnout. Furlong won as Reform candidate with 603 votes.

Obviously not ideal, but I won't be losing sleep over this result, tbh.

And a Labour hold in North Somerset. Funny how that didn’t get a mention eh?

It's a fucking shame "the public" (?) didn't pay more attention 10 years ago, the isn't it ?

It's a shame they all "woke up" when it was Labour being a nasty man.

Where were these fuckers when Brexit and Johnson were shafting the UK ?

With powers of observation like that, there isn't really much they can add to the sum of human knowledge is there ?

PandoraSocks · 06/02/2026 11:14

Gosh, we are getting a lot of visitors from the LiW thread.

We are going to need a new thread title soon.

I am not convinced that those who are at boiling point suddenly and collectively decide to sign up to MN to express their wrath.

No matter.

There is sufficient real and justified anger amongst the electorate, and MP’s of all hues.

I kind of love how they lurk.

I'm getting a whiff of the type of poster that writes "Rachel from Accounts" and thinks they are witty.

callthecattlehome · 06/02/2026 11:23

Hi, I’m a long-time lurker (been on MN for over 10 years but very seldom post). I also lurk on Threads. I just want to report that in my corner of Threads, a lot of posters support Starmer over Mandelson and, if they don’t agree with everything, appreciate recent Labour achievements and international respect. They point out double standards with Tories and Starmer and chide Ed Davey. A number of them, I think genuine, report they are now joining the Labour Party. I thought you might be interested.

I don’t accept that people only get to speak if they object at the right moment in history, or that their concerns are invalid because you think it should have happened ten years ago.

People engage when policies start to affect them directly or when they feel ignored. That is not hypocrisy, it’s how people, who want their voices heard engage.

Shouting “where were these f……rs then” doesn’t strengthen the debate, it just shuts conversation down. I’d much rather see people engaged late than disengaged forever.

And many of us were paying attention back then, were commenting back then and strongly believe that silence, right now, is not the answer and are taking to MN to express our feelings.

I repeat, I think that is a good thing!

Nobody here is saying that is a bad thing.

I think you need to read @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats post again. It was not referring to people who have been posting on MN for a while (as you have). Nor was SerendipityJane's post.

I do get the context and meaning of @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats post! My post wasn’t a critique of her post, it was an attempt to approach her post from an additional perspective.

So, what you are really saying is - new joiners should ‘know their place’, and not dare to venture an opinion which is incompatible with yours.

Sorry to tell you, but life doesn’t work like that - in most places, anyway.

SerendipityJane · 06/02/2026 11:39

People who have chosen until now to "discover" their supposed ire can only be assumed to have accepted everything that came before.

Notonthestairs · 06/02/2026 11:41

People create accounts on MN or change name for a variety of reasons.

But I suspect if that if you have to do either of those things in order to post on a political themed thread it is to disguise your past posts, your true intent and your predominate concerns.

Some new posters will post on a couple of threads to try and create a bit of history. But that is often a fairly obvious ruse too.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/02/2026 11:41

Have another squirrel - I recognise the need to pay extra tax if it benefits society as a whole.

As an aside - the single thing that has damaged my pocket more than anything (and also more or less written off my business) is Brexit. But I'm just told off for moaning if I say that.

Perhaps I should change user names multiple times and start 20 threads about that.

No its not about knowing your place.

It is about being deliberately misleading.

Which you are.
